Anachrony because we both love it and have spent to bling it out; Firefly because it was one of our first games that brought us into the hobby; 7th Continent because it was our first major Kickstarter, we have all the expansions/promos and is the game we probably have invested the most time into.

I believe this is the best representation of “Top 10s” at least for Board Games. The two of you passionately elaborates, expounds and share the feats and aspects of the choice games in your list without overselling them too much or going on stale and tedious when elucidating them. It always feel natural and nice to listen to. It very much convinces me to “hey I should definitely try this”. Although not all of course, but it reasonably helps me resonate more and consider a game before buying it. Others are just like “ohh I really love this…” and “I just freakin’ love this game” without expressing themselves in a more understandable manner. I guess Top 10’s shares that “marketing-like” aspect of attracting people to give certain items a chance to be experienced and you guys always did that brilliantly alrhough the basic premise is just “expressing or sharing” which is inherently good. The top 50’s you did before? TOTALLY liked and felt that. Your Vital Lacerda inputs? Mind-blowingly exciting and interesting. You even convince me more to try On Mars (still saving money for it though since I just got Lisboa and Age of Steam) despite it being so intimidating and you guys both put it “the most complicated” of Lacerda’s games. This channel is a gem.

Definitely some good choices there but a really big cheer for Ginkopolis, a game that has never been as popular as its unique play deserves. Watching you struggle to describe it was all too familiar, it's one of those games you pretty much have to play at least once before you can really grasp what it's doing, but once you get it, it just all clicks into place and makes perfect sense.

I prefer Brass: Lancashire because it's a bit tighter and tougher of a challenge. Birmingham is a bit easier and more forgiving of mistakes. I love two rooms and a boom as my go to ice breaker / full group activity at a party. I think it plays at 10 people fine for a few rounds, especially if keeping it to basic roles. Would love to have a larger experience with the game though with some time to delve into different roles (every time I've set it up it's been at max 3 games). This was a cool topic to cover as it got some more unknowns to think about if ever running across used copies or new printings.

Very, very difficult to give a concise answer to that question, but I'd probably go with: - Abyss (+ expansions ; one of the first games my wife and I bought, and we still love it to this day) - Cascadia - Calico (both these games are so simple, yet offer just the right amount of brain-burning to make us (and anyone we've introduced them to) want to come back to them again and again) - Everdell (technically getting rid of this game to replace it with the Complete Collection, but that title is not going anywhere - gameplay aside, its entire universe resonates so much with the Redwall books I was so enamoured with as a child/teenager that it has quickly become the centrepiece of my collection) - Hadrian's Wall (so satisfying as a solo game; it looks daunting at first, but then the pleasure of triggering all those chain reactions kicks in, and it's hard to get bored while playing) - Scythe (I think I needn't add to what you've already said) - PARKS (beautiful, relaxing, and again, just the right amount of challenge to it). This list will probably become far longer with all the Kickstarters arriving at the end of the year / Q1 2022.
@BeforeYouPlay

@@BeforeYouPlay Abyss is a wonderful game with fantastic components and artwork, is very easy to teach, and really underrated :-) Admittedly it plays best with both its expansions added on (they give the core game far more strategic depth, and fix some of its less interesting mechanisms), but if you get the chance, jump in! Even though I don't play it that much any more, I'd have to keep Puerto Rico because it is the game that solidified my love of board games and really got me in the hobby beyond the classics of Scrabble and Clue. Another one I hold dear is Expedition: Northwest Passage. I love the theme and the mechanic of the water freezing over and having to put out your sled while worrying about getting back to your boat on time before the ice melts and possibly getting stranded on an ice flow. Along the same lines is the game Raptor. It's not my favourite 2-player only game, there are so many great ones out there, but the theme and the way the game plays, as well as having taken a gamble on it without doing my now mandatory research on the game and finding it to be such a gem really endears it to me. Everdell and Nemesis have been my top two games for the past two years, so I can't see them leaving my collection anytime soon. The Gallerist is my favourite Lacerda game and I would hate to part with that one. Then I have the original Arboretum in the green box and I will keep that forever. The oldest game in my collection and this list is the 1963 3M edition of Acquire which is still an incredible game and plays so well. Lastly I'll add Condottiere to the list because it's a great game in a small box and my board wouldn't lie flat so I kept trying to flatten it more and then it snapped. I ended up snapping the other part off as well and taping them together and that extra bit of character somehow makes me love the game that much more. And it lies flat now. 😜

As a completionist, some of the games I’ll keep forever are more ‘series’ than individual games: 1st edition Descent, Android: Netrunner, Commands and Colors: Ancients. Then there are the “grail games”, ones I pined for for years before I finally got them: Napoleon’s Triumph, Kanban EV and CO2: Second Chance. There are a few that would be so hard to replace that I would hate to part with them: Starcraft, Gears of War And finally, the favourites - not the “new hotness”, but enduring classics; several of which I’ve played hundreds of times: Tash Kalar, Fire in the Lake & Andean Abyss, SPQR, Mr Cabbagehead’s Garden

I agree with the Kanban size thing. I’m getting more and more annoyed about how games get bigger and bigger. I would love to have got La Granja, but due to the size of the new edition chose not to. I think when a game takes a while Kallax cube, when it’s impractical to take to a game night, when on a 6 seat table I still need a side table/a to make it fit, we have a serious problem. 😉

Great topic and choices!! Ginkgopolis and Obsession I'd never get rid of, also Shakespeare with expansion (that little box of cards makes a world of difference and is hard to find now), Clans of Caledonia, Brass Birmingham, Bruxelles 1893, Fury of Dracula 4th edition, Inis, Grand Austria Hotel and The Grizzled

I'll never get rid of StarCraft, Queen's Gambit, Epic Duels, War of the Ring, and probably 1960 (Z-Man edition), Ad Astra or TI4. I don't want to get rid of nearly any of the games I currently own but those titles in particular are among my favorites and mostly out of print

@@BeforeYouPlay Total fortune on our part. Friends who introduced to (and got us to love) board games gave us an "old" copy (the original edition) when they bought the updated one, THEN gave us THAT one too when they downsized their games!!

Parade is such a good game! I bought it at a hardware store that also randomly sold board games years ago. Haha. Sadly, someone stole my copy, so I'm happy to hear it is back in print!
