in my opinion, they struck gold with undertaker. and when they decided to link kane to undertaker, they struck gold again. it didnt just introduce a new character with a story line, they created a whole new dimension to look out for. kane never really had any matches when he first got there. it was him toying with taker during taker's matches. and it totally worked! in my opinion, aside from two of them being the top characters of their time, i think that was the best story line... ever! undertaker burning house down when he was a kid killing his family, and paul bearer(lol) needing to take the dead man down to hell, had a secret all those years. he didnt kill his whole family, his little brother survived. but not completely. he was scared for life, by the undertaker. and is here to dish out some revenge ... undertaker vs, the darker version of himself, which was wasnt really dark, but "different" lol, sry for the wall of text.. i grew up with kane coming onto the scene..even made a mankind mask for arts and craft for highschool.. lol.. paul, kane, mankind, vader... the outside boy undertaker... good times.

If I was to give an honourable mention for this list, I would definitely have to go with Neville. His ‘Man That Gravity Forgot’ turn to the ‘King of the Cruiserweights’ was certainly one of the best turns I’ve seen in a while. While under the Gravity Defying Gimmick he was pushed to a major extent. Even getting a World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins on an episode of Raw and NEARLY WINNING. But nearly was all Neville was going to get until Mark Henry of all people came along and mentored him what is now his King of the Cruiserweights persona. Neville certainly decided at the last minute as at the time, the WWE Creative Team was attempting to force a ‘Mighty Mouse’ Gimmick onto him to attempt to “connect him with the fans more.” But all of that went out the window when Henry presented to the team something new. Something surprising. Something that they absolutely had to get behind. After Neville’s official heel turn in late December of 2016, he had won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship on the January the next month. Holding it for a staggering 197 days and is the longest reigning champion of that title. However, after being defeated by Enzo Amore for that very title, Neville had apparently walked out of Raw the fortnight afterward. But in recent weeks, he has been confirmed for returning to the company. Possibly in mid-April the night after WrestleMania 34. So things may soon be on the rise for one of Newcastle’s greatest exports.

@t.v.rockwell4504

Sort of. Rocky Maivia would have most likely been released back then, as the company was all in on Stone Cold Steve Austin. They already had heels in Mick Foley, Undertaker, Kane, and soon Triple H and Big Show. I doubt Rocky Maivia would've gotten passed the mid card even if he wasn't released by then.
@9190onin

TVR24 highly doubt it. They were pushing him as the next baby face of the company but the crowd wanted Rocky to Die so they pulled the trigger on the heel turn and it worked perfectly. The Rock's popularity was crazy. I went to University across in Canada, and one of the things we did was go to an episode of WWE. I wasn't a wrestling fan at the time, but I had been to many sporting events. It was the year 2000, I was only vaguely aware of the Rock, but that Semester, we travelled to RAW, and the arena was fairly rowdy, but when the "If you smell!" hit and the crowd erupted into insanity! It was like the apocalypse had come! Not just the meteoric sonic-boom of the cheers, but the lunatic ecstasy of a standing ovation he got JUST FOR WALKING OUT! It was like Beatlemania for Wrestling.
@lindenstromberg6859
4 жыл бұрын
Not only that, but he was commanding the crowd like a cult leader. People were in literal tears just because this guy walked out! It's hard to explain that experience, it was shocking to say the least. Calling the Rock a rockstar in 2000 would be an understatement. The guy controlled the crowd just by raising his eyebrow.

One other comment is about Gold Dust. There's another perfect example of Vince trying to bury someone with a bad gimmick, underestimating the absolute talent of the guy being handed that bad gimmick. Dustin took that character to ultimate heights, ala Brutus The Barber. Anyone else handed that shitty, career ending gimmick would have probably lasted maybe 6 months with it and either quit or been ruined for life. Oh, and I'd vote Hogan's heel turn with the Outsiders the greatest heel turn of all time in professional wrestling. It was just brilliant, as was the "Outsider" angle from the very start. NWO was the greatest stable of all time, up until about 1998-99 when it became too watered down and everyone joined it.

2:04 I don't know about you but this looks like Cena stopped working out as much and found a time machine and monocle and got a perm. Can't unsee uncanny resemblance.

Hogan's Heel turn should be #1. That literally saved one of the biggest careers in wrestling history, and also ushered in a new type of wrestling. The NWO was the reason Vince created the "Attitude" era, and wrestling was now a part of pop culture like never before. That heel turn not only saved Hogan's career and legacy, but also a bunch of other guys who hopped on board and changed their gimmicks.

These are GREAT. I agree. The Rock's transformation was epic to watch. Undertaker belongs on the list also. Mark Calloway was going no where without it. And where is Stone Cold Steve Austin?

I don't think modern wrestling fans appreciate the genius that was Gorgeous George. It's like millenials who don't recognize the impact The Beatles had on all bands of the 60's thu the 90's. Gorgeous George absolutely defined what wrestling would become forevermore after him. He was incredibly popular for his time, so much so that he was at one point the highest paid "athelete" in the world, and made money that was on par with Hollywood actors and stars of the day. He set the standard that would later become modern wrestling, and brought it out of sideshow carnival status to becoming one of the biggest entertainment draws of our time.

Would you count Wyndham Rotunda going through "Husky Harris" to become "Bray Wyatt" or would not count because he wasn't a big star before? What about Barry Darsow going through being "Krusher Kruschev" to hit the high mark as "Demolition Smash" or does the fact he later went on to losing gimmicks disqualify him? There's also Japan's Tetsuya Naito who wasn't going anywhere before heading to Mexico, adopting his "Tranquilo" persona and becoming a superstar in NJPW.

this list could’ve used a “honorable mentions” section. there’s a lot of good comments of who should’ve/could’ve made the list.

Matt Hardy was one of the most beloved of his era. It's not saving your career when you are 5 years passed your prime.
