It is one of the most haunting films I've ever seen, and everyone I've watched it with has left shaken up, and thinking about it for weeks. Excellent tour de force from Don McKellar. The cast is absolutely stellar too. A who's who of Canadian acting talent, and one or two who don't act often (I'm looking at you, David Cronenberg) but when they do, you definitely remember them! Anyone who enjoyed _These Final Hours_ needs to see _Last Night._

It wasn't a definitive end to the entire world, but one of my favorite endings was that of Terminator III, the Rise of the Machines. The best part of the (middling) movie was the nuclear apocalypse. @gordonmills2748 - I'll second the vote on "When Worlds Collide" which won Oscars for the special effect of having a planet strike and shatter the Earth. There is also "The Divide" (2011). While mostly about survivors of a Nuclear missile attack on NYC who hide inside a basement bomb shelter, the bleak ending implies wide spread nuclear devastation which likely could very well have been global. However, an alternate theory suggests that NYC had a contagious incurable virus which only an American nuclear missile strike could wipe out, thus localizing the damage. The film is ambiguous about either scenario. There is also another film but I forget its title. All I remember about the end is that a large machine is turned on and the planet literally explodes. I think the assumption by the government authorities was that the machine will save the planet, but the lone protagonist knows it will do the opposite. I don't think its "The Night the World Exploded" (1957). Nor "End of the World" (1977).

9:02 Bar patron; "I thought that if the world was going to end we were meant to lie down or put a paper bag over our head or something." Ford: “If you like, yes,” Barman: “Will that help?” Ford: "Noooo." The issue with trying to make a film of H2G2 is that the humour is all verbal. Trying to do it as visual can lose a lot. The only one that got it close to right was the TV series, which kept the verbal and just added some additional visual humour (such as the book graphics.)
