How about Randall Cunningham? After his MVP season in 1990, injuries destroyed his career until retiring after a 1995 injury. He returned in 1997 and showed flashes of brilliance. In 1998, he took over Brad Johnson and led the new age Vikings to have the greatest offense yet, and became a 1st Team All-Pro.

Also Doug Flutie played for the Bears after the USFL and before the Pats. I think a runner up player would be Tommy Maddox because he was drafted into the NFL in 1992 but bounced around a few teams and he played a little more than Kurt Warner who really didn't get chance but should have gotten one but Maddox struggled and didn't play very good and then was cut in 1997 and after that he sold insurance until 1999 when he got a call from the New Jersey Red Dogs of the Arena league where he did very well and then was signed into the 1st version of the XFL in 2001 and won the championship and MVP and then Signed with the Steelers in 2001 as a backup and became the starter in 2002 and won comeback player of the year.

QB Shawn Matthew Buren who played for the Sacramento Hornet's from 1992 to 1994 started his freshman Sophomore and Junior Season's but he was placed on IR for his entire Senior year do to a Season ending injury Wich he suffered in the Hornets 2nd Pre - Season Game ,then entering the NFL at all most 6 feet 7 inches tall at 231pounds he ran a 4.45 in the 40 yard dash and was Left Handed a Southpaw Drafted in the 7th round in 1994 by the Seattle Seahawks he was only there for 1 Season on the Practice Squad then traded to the 48ers he out played everyone in Practice he was in San Francisco for 5 season never being activated teams were wanting him then he got traded to the Dolphins the next 8 Seasons on the Dolphins Practice Squad all those years he new every playbook on every Team within 2 weeks he out shined every QB in Practice ,but there was 1 problem he kept getting traded to Teams that had Joe Montana Steve Young and Brett Farve and at the time the Hawks had Rick Meyer Wich everyone thought he was the next great Quarterback ,so that 1 problem was he went to Teams that were absolutely set at the QB potion Shawn Buren number 11 would've been a Elite QB for years ,he just never got his Shot to bad Shawn at the time if he went to say the Jets Cardinals Chargers Teams like that he would've at least been the 2nd String QB then no doubt would've became a Starting QB for one of those Teams that needed a Franchise QB he would've gotten his chance I know it doesn't happen a lot ,but I'm sure right now in 2022 there's probably a few players on the Practice Squad that could be a Elite Player ,but will never get the chance to start in a NFL game b t w having a QB like SMB at 6 feet 7 inches tall running a 4.45 in the 40 yard dash was unheard of in the mid 1990s Quarterback it's kinda crazy being on a Practice Squad Player in the NFL for 12 year's and that's it never getting his chance but his last 2 Season's he was paid 1.2 millon dollars each of those 2 Season's kind of crazy getting paid 2.4 millon dollars just being a Practice Player ,I believe his other 10 years Shawn made 250K a few years and a couple other years making around 550K at least he left the NFL not Broke hopefully Comeback player kinda hard to become one if U are never given a chance to play Lol
