@@Ashtarte3D Agree to disagree on this one. I do the same but for DoW1. I'm not saying I don't like the game. It's a good game. It's just not a good DoW game. At least in Dark Crusade and Soulstorm you could do the campaign as whatever race you wanted. In DoW2 and it's expansions you were forced into playing as Space Marines, and as someone who prefers Tau, Necron and Dark Eldar (in that order usually), being forced to play as Space Marines just sucks.

True. Some people go in for backstory, but that's in story-driven games, not in "mow down millions of enemies" game. Did I care when Thule got shoved into a walker, not really. Did I fear for my squad when they did their last stand after poisoning the tendrils, nope. At the end of the day, in terms of game, DoW:DC was better than DoW2. Don't get me wrong, DoW2 and DoW2:CR were good and DoW2: R happened, but Dark Crusade was still better. The bosses in DoW2 were stupid-strong (you have 300 health, it has 300,000 - if that Ork has more health than a 1000 Space Marines, why hasn't it taken over the Universe yet) and increased again for Chaos Rising (that end thing - can't remember name - had millions of health, you were fighting it for hours). In terms of DoW, DC was by far the best expansion. SS was okay (once they'd patched it), but felt like a watered down DC. Base game was short and so was first expansion, albeit considerably harder than base. But DC is where it really got its feet.
@GenJuhru
4 жыл бұрын
@@robd9413 SS was a let down with the DC epilogue(?) showing various planets in conflict and what you got is a mostly empty battle map. the dow2 warping on another system would have been...a glimpse of a better SS if not better than DC. It also didnt help that the Sororitas used had the most boring color palette...
@robd9413
4 жыл бұрын
@@GenJuhru For me, two of my main problems with SS was the gates. Firstly, you have the in-lore problem of imperials\SM using elder tech to move between planets - might be wrong, but I'd expect them to trash them, not use them. Secondly, the gates created effectively choke-points and made them more a priority than the others. DC had a free map, SS didn't.

It's an okay for a few hours coop shooter. But pretending to be a Warhammer game where you play a terminator squad is quite a joke and has 0 regard for the actual 40k universe. And the positive reviews are, well the enhanced edition made the really buggy messy original game somewhat playable, and it's fun for 10-15 hours tops, that doesn't mean much in the long run. It plays more like a simplified stompy mech game with highly exaggerated post processing effects, screen shake and so forth than anything else. Also marred by insanely wonky AI, incredibly simple spawning system that kills any sort of challenge even if you're not good at shooters. Let's all just hope someone takes the Legion system from Serious Sam 4 and makes a proper 40k shooter out of it. And the original game has 53% positive reviews, and half of those are hopefuls that want to like the game just cuz it says 40k on it. I've been a Dark Angels player since I picked up my First White Dwarf for painting my Space Crusade minatures. There was just something about the monk like habbits over the power armour that caught my imagination. Mostly due to the incredible pen and ink "Illuminations" of the legendary John Blanche. Haven't played table top since they shifted away from the old school Rouge Trader rule book and started introducing the individual chapter codices but I've never wandered far from the Emperors first legion. So it'll be no surprise that Space Hulk:Deathwing is my top of the pops. Played the hell out of WH40K:Space Marine too as a 1st Legion, 3rd Company Tactical Marine online. Exterminatus was an absolute joy to play. But you can't beat ye oldé tactical dreadnought armour with a heavy flamer and a veritable carpet of Xenos to cook.

I’m partial to the Tau myself. I haven’t kept up with recent lore but, in the past, they where the only faction that seemed to have hope and ‘weren’t’ soul crushingly depressing in the decay or depravity of their civilisation.

I love that Shadow of the Horned Rat got on the list. Dark Omen was great too. And I agree Dawn of War 2 is the best I've replaced it so much and it goes right into Chaos Rising so well

You missed the best WH40K game: Final Liberation! The epic scale game play is something I don't believe has ever been done again. How many other games let you field multiple titans? The cut scenes are great as they were filmed live in costume. Honorable mention for Chaos Gate, with its original X-Com flavor.

The crown Jules finally getting to speak his truth is nice to see. I’m glad the man spreading the good word of taking time for yourselves is finally getting some time to talk about his passion. And Oasley is a big ledg as always in these vids.

No love for Chaos Gate? It did all the stuff you singled out as awesome and distinctive in DoW II, but back in 1998 (as a result, sure, it doesn't look as good, but it looks surprisingly good for its time), and had an absolutely awesome soundtrack to boot.

Space marine, the best, for putting the Marines themselves as near mythical figures and for one more, Mark Strong.

Warhammer Dark Omen better be on this list! I'm currently playing it now! It's been 20 years since I last played it when I was a kid! I finally got my old PC working and am able to play my old classics! - Warhammer Dark Omen, Wargames, G-police etc... I'm in gamer heaven! You can all keep your PS5s!!!

I would salviate a river if they would announce a new Space Marine game or at least a WH40K game just like it. THe thought alone makes me foam out of my mouth.

A mate of mine worked on Space Marine. You should see what he animated just out of shot in some of the cut scenes!

I don't play 40k proper, but I have a couple of kill teams. My current project for one of the specialist games, Adeptus Titanicus. I'm putting together a couple of maniples of Legio Ignatum, supported by knights of House Hermetika.
