Alternate location for templates on Windows systems: If you're using a work computer or otherwise lack file permissions for that location on the computer you're using, you can store them in: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\templates Obviously, replace with the applicable user name on your computer.

Nick, your excellent tutoring has brought gladness to my practice with Inkscape. Great "hidden" functions, most of which I had no idea existed. I wish Gimp were as intuitive as Inkscape. The .pdf function is something I need to explore, as a local print shop needed larger sized work (3 x 4 feet) in a .pdf form that I'm unfamiliar with.

If you are on Ubuntu linux tab should work to choose any of the objects since you would have to assign the alt key for this to a different key like the windows key if you wanted the alt to work like Nicks lesson. I found out the tab key works to select even hidden objects.

I knew most of these options and do use them. One feature I wish Inkscape would develope/include is a compass tool. Something to allow me to create circles around a center and work designs in the same workflow as traditional sacred geometry. If its already in there, I've not see how to do so and no one has spoken to it.

Very nice. I learned a few things. However, one problem with templates: 1) you really shouldn't store things in the shared folder in "program files." Instead, they belong in the user/Appdata/roaming/inkscape/templates. 2) "Save Template" is the better way to create templates in that location. I did manage to break out of the usual mold and I figured out how to use INX files with the templates so I could provide content for the template prior to build. It's a pretty good trick when you can make an image from a template, embed metadata at the very start, save to standard SVG and pull up on a website where the embedded data comes up seamlessly. I actually bought Affinity Designer. It prints better than Inkscape and has some nice features, but I can't program it. I *can* make Inkscape dance. :-)

I know that this video is old. The "trick" of changing the AI file extension to PDF will only work when the Illustrator file has been saved with "PDF compatoble" turned on. It's the default, so not a lot of people will turn it off, but if it is turned off, then there will not be anything in the file. For files that have been saved PDF compatible, renaming them is not necessary. You can just open the AI file with Inkscape. It will find the PDF inside.

I use Inkscape sometimes for reverse engineering on technical pdf drawings. Where i want to measure angles or lengths. Using the ruler lines you can manually rotate the lines with hold the shift key and draging the line to its desired angle. Than you can read out the angle from the properties menu if you double click it. Some of the features i knew. but the Alt selection methode was unknown to me, but will use that in the future. Thank you.

I'm looking for a vector graphic application that's fairly easy to use yet high quality software... and looks like I just found it. This seems a lot like Flash without the animation and scripting aspect, but hey, what do I want for free. Macromedia Flash was the most amazing program. The heart shape used in your pattern was considered one object with multiple instances which only needed to be loaded once, and wouldn't add nearly as much to the file size that a bitmap would. Great video tutorials, thank you.

Great tutorials. The problem with your intro/outro is that the base song, Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" is in the key of A-flat, whereas when the 808 kick comes in, it's in the key of F, giving a most unpleasant discordant tri-tone effect. I realize I'm probably the only one this bothers! LOL
