Very true. Now if they were to ACTUALLY list engines that made the biggest impact to the tuner/modified industry then the 350 small block and Honda b series would be tied for 1st. B series is to imports what the 350 small block is to domestics. The b series dominated the drag scene in the 90s and early 2000s and is definitely a pioneer along with the 2jz and 4g63.

Both of those are _slightly_ more reliable than the 4G63, so yes, my point still stands. For a performance engine, the 4G63 sure likes to puke its innards unless you undertake the expensive task of using forged components for everything.

+SpaghettiFox of course it's really popular in the European market because you can take a 500 and slap a twin turbo or supercharger on it and be pushin 700 wheel... don't get me wrong a lot of the European cars are magnificent but when you start going against turbo coyotes and supercharged coyotes, good luck because he can always add more boost or build motor... mmr performance has a fully built 5.0 making 2200+whp runs 7.02 at 202mph in the quarter... that's a whole lot of potential when you can easily make 700whp with bolt ons with turbo or supercharger and be running low 10s possible high 9s... if you want to go all out and fully build, you could have a 7 second car that still would not have nowhere near the type of money invested in it as it takes to have those European vehicles... don't get me wrong he can also fully build his Lambo, I have never seen a Lambo run a 7 flat at 202 mph..

This was a list of 10 iconic engines not every iconic engine ever made. Most of the world will not class an American V8 as an iconic engine as they have never been in a car with one. Also the power some small 4 pot Japanese engines produce is genuinely superb. I prefer the sound of a straight six or a revy V8. It is hard for a lot of people to see the US V8s as iconic mainly due to the fact of so many poor power outputs for the size of the engine. I know they are developed for longevity and torque in most cases. What I am trying to say is some of the Japanese and European engines are engineering masterpieces. The good old US V8 are great but you expect all V8s to be great.

Much of the engines here can't hold a candle to the FIAT Bialbero. It won TEN constructor titles of the the World Rally Championship: three times with the FIAT 131 Abarth (1977, 1978 and 1980), one with the Lancia 037 (1983) and six with the Lancia Delta (1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992). It also won the World Sportscar Championship TWICE with the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo (1980, 1981), for a total of TWELVE major world titles in sixteen years.

keep it up kid even if you're alone. At your age with your enthusiasm you can make a career in motorsports if later in life you focus on engineering. Combining hobby and work is the ultimate life reward.. almost like a lottery but even better. keep this in mind when things get tough and remember to hustle your way forward. And when you make it remember me and send me some money for car parts :P

Stop fighting people, it doesn't say the 10 MOST Iconic Engines. Listing every iconic engine would go beyond the scope. I think the goal was to show a wide variety of engines which was mostly achieved in my opinion. ..thanks for putting the Volvo T5 on the list though. One of my favourites.

What about the Porsche Mezger Engine. Porsche used that design for over 50 years. The last versions of that engine were in the 997 GT2 RS, and 997.2 GT3s. It's a fabulous engine, plus also Hans Mezger designed the Mclaren Formula 1 engines in the 80s.

+Cody Lemos Bullshit. The engines themselves are alot of the time, the stars and some of them have decades of history and years of dominance in motorsports. Some examples: The Mezger series of engines, the Bizzarrini V12 or the Colombo V12. The Volvo engine and the BMW V10 don't deserve their place here. I'll even make the case for the Wankel to be removed from the list. The Porsche Flat-6s are also anyday better than the Scooby Flat 4s.

What about some racing engines, such as Mercedes M119 (which powered the Sauber Group C sports prototypes and Mercedes road cars), Nissan VRH35Z/L (also used in Group C prototypes, the R390 GT1 and new McLaren cars), Toyota R36V/R (used in SARD-built Toyota Group C prototypes and GT-ONE), Porsche Typ 935 (from the 935, 962 and 911 GT1), BMW P60B40 (in the M3 E46 GTR), S14 (in the M3 E30), S70/2 (in the BMW M8 Prototype and McLaren F1), Cosworth DFR (the most successful engine in motorsport), or GM LT1, which made almost 900 HP in the Corvette C4-based Callaway Sledgehammer (a car that did 254 mph in 1988)?

I find the mazda 323f zxi 2.0l v6 24v with variable air intake as a beautiful sound with supercharger like whine at high revs (over 4000). Rev it up a bit and it maintains improved response even below 4000. It's I find a very overlooked engine, shame about the distributor ignition

The A-series engine is pretty iconic... Used from the late 50's up to 2001 being the first engine to be transversely mounted in the mini as well as powering many other cars such as the morris minor, morris traveler, mg midget and such. It is highly tuneable and very had been very successful in racing / rally. It went from being a carb engine to single point injection and then to multi point injection as well as also being used as an N/A and factory turbo engine... Just a few things that to me make the a series pretty darn worthy of this list! Just because it diddnt make masses of power from stock.. Always.. doesn't make it bad or not iconic! I have a single point injection classic mini cooper and after 90000 miles still makes good power and returns 49 mpg on the motorway.. Not bad for a 50 year old design!
