When using channels (and also on the mask itself), after levels I go with the D&B tool set to highlight/shadows respectively to clean the edges. Awsome vid as usual. I've been following for almost 10 years. Cheers from Portugal.

Very useful, especially in this age where more and more people have access to online auto background removers, etc. if you’re able to create superior work to automated services you’ll continue to find work.

One of my favorite ways to get rid of halos or color bleeding in hair and fur is to use decontaminate colors in select in mask. However I use it a little differently than most people. I output it from select and mask as a new layer and then set the blend mode to color. Then I clip it to the original layer with the subject cut out. That way it only uses the color information from the decontaminated colors layer and you don’t get any weirdness from the expanding that happens. Another way is to use a hue/saturation adjustment layer. Change it from master to blues (or whatever color you’re trying to get rid of in the hair or fur). Dial in the range sliders to isolate it as much as possible to color your trying to get rid of, then use the hue and saturation sliders to match that color to the color of the fur or hair. Then to isolate it further you can use layer mask on the adjustment layer. Fill the mask with black and then paint with white only over the edges of the hair or fur.

Decontaminate colors works wrong, destructively. I suggested on the Adobe's forum to fix it by making a clipped layer as you're describing. I created the topic almost a year ago, but received NO votes from other users... I'm not sure if KZitem allows external links, but you can find it on the Adobe's forum, the title is "Decontaminate colors option as a clipped layer".

Yeah. I've been wishing for a non-destructive option for decontaminate color forever. I guess outputting as a new layer is sort of non-destructive because you still have the original layer, but you can't go and make adjustments so it's quite limited.
