Even Hulk Hogan had slammed Andre before that match at Wrestlemania 3. Per Google, the first known person to bodyslam Andre was the aptly named Strong Kobayashi in 1972 in Morioka Japan. Others to slam Andre include Killer Vashon, Riki Chosu, Antonio Inoki, Stan Hansen, The Wild Samoans (it's listed that it took both Afa and Sika to get him up), Harley Race, Kamala, Hogan (in 1980 at Shea Stadium in addition to that Wrestlemania moment), and the Ultimate Warrior.

If I may give a minor correction to a name - Killer Vashon is Paul "Butcher" Vachon.
@stevegallo8483

@@BlondNirvana I have no problem with the correction. I used an article I saw on people who had slammed Andre, and that was the name given for Vachon so I used it. Seems there was an error in that article.

Growing up watching the Memphis promotion, I didn't know how awesome it was at the time. It was low budget, but VERY cutting edge and trend setting. It was truly the birth of the modern era of wrestling. Thank you, Eddie Marlin and Jerry Jarrett. I will treasure those memories forever.

Cornette went through his & Weasel’s old newsletters & found an even earlier 5 Star Match that they had watched/ranked. He talked about it on his podcast recently. Then they also found other interesting facts from those days about the rating system as they were creating it before Uncle Dave made it his thing. Definitely worth listening to whenever you get some time.

Yeah. Weasel Dooley even had a newsletter he would send out. It wasn’t anything special, just the matches, winners and their star rating.

I was literally about to type that I’m pretty sure that it happened at ECW as right when you mentioned this in the video. It happened in ECW before all those other promotions existed, with the exception except of WWE. It happened at ECW events before The Miz and CM Punk were even wrestlers.
