I have my third Birman. Whilst they are beautiful and extremely affectionate there are some downfalls. Their coats shed and you will need to to have fur removal tools to remove fur from your clothing and those of your visitors. If you don’t groom your cat often, they will be sick with fur balls. I groom my cat at least four times a week and he will still be sick. They are needy and can be highly vocal. They are house cats and don’t have the same homing instinct as non pedigree cats. Always have them micro chipped. They are gentle by nature and love companionship. If left alone for long periods, they will pine. Best to get them a companion if you are out all day. None of my cats have been fussy eaters and all three have preferred good quality cat food to fresh chicken, fish etc. If you want a cat with the temperament of a dog, then a Birman is ideal.

I'm so confused between Birman, Ragdoll and Neva Masquerade. It's a headache to choose wisely!

Hmmmm I had 2 birmans and didn't experience anything you mentioned. Mine were very affectionate and cuddly but not high mamaintence in their grooming. I brushed mine once a week or sometimes once every 2 weeks and never had issues with knots, clumping or matted fur. One was a picky eater and only mostly liked dry food while the other enjoyed all cat foods and even many human foods. One of the lowest maintenance kitties I've ever had other than their last few years being diagnosed with kidney disease. I want to find and adopt another birman kitty, or two, again. They are so full of personality, sass, cuddles, love, individuality and everything you could ever dream of in a little best, fur companion 💖

@@-VIRUS-. Their coats didn’t shred? How about when they begin to lose their winter coats? Never sick? They are renound for bringing up fur balls. They are a special breed but, sorry I don’t believe that you have owned a Birman cat without these problems.

I'm such a huge fan of their temperament. They're very sociable and easygoing. Their blue eyes are just gorgeous.

Love my Birman! Wish you would have touched on their diets. My Birman rescue, I was feeding him regular cat food and he kept getting sicker. They cannot digest carbs, switched to grain free kibble and no card canned and he thrived. He is 17, loves playing 007 games and no signs of slowing! In AZ, I do get him shaved as with age, its too hard for him to maintain that luxurious thick coat

Our first two Birmans lived 14 and 19 wonderful years. We now have 2 - 5-month-old Birman kittens. We love this breed so much. This video is pretty much spot-on about them. I really love how smart and affectionate they are. Those blue eyes are amazing. If you get the opportunity to spend some time with one, two, or more. You will have a better understanding of what Birman owners are saying. Cheers😺

Would love to actually get 2 Birman kittens but they are almost impossible to find in Canada. When I did find a potential breeder the waiting list was so very long and the parent's pics online were not very desirable. This is truly sad for they would of been the ideal cats for me. Why a breed that is this old and recognized around the world so hard to find today.

Wow! Well I hit the jackpot with my two birmans who have now sadly passed away 💔💔💔but I adopted them off of Craigslist and they were the most magical, amazing, beautiful kitties with the sweetest, cuddliest, best personalities ❤️ 💖 💕

Try European or Russian breeders. Maybe they would even bring a kitten themselves.

No. Birmans are not “special”. Mine bites like crazy, and he’s frisky like any other cat. When you hear that Birmans are somehow “different” in their personality from other breeds, it’s a selling tactic. Wish I’d known before dishing out $2,000. God bless 🌺…..

This a load of rubbish .The Birman originated from cats imported from Thailand and then mated to Persians in France in the 1920's.Cats in Thailand all have shorthair
