Cash - possibly, precious metals will be the useful metals not the pretty ones, fuel - definately, I think also water purification chemicals, antibiotics, weapons and ammo if you're American - can't let the NRA down, Binoculars - yes, Some form of electrical generation - solar panels probably. Tools (multitool and knives in a grab-bag), materials for a shelter (tarp, paracord, hammock, bedroll) and my favourite toy a kelly-kettle / volcano stove.

Number 11 ... Home Security Camera System. This can constantly survey vast views of a property and /or areas a trespasser might use as concealment or a point of entry. A 4 to 16-camera system can be purchased relatively inexpensively and record motion on a loop day and night. And all of a system's cameras are viewable on a single monitor. Even though it will require some trenching or exposed overhead wiring, for the outbuildings, I prefer a hardwired system. With that in mind, I purchased a wireless system for my home and a second hardwired system for the outbuildings.

Still, I can’t believe how much i actually spent. I sure feel better about my stores now though if the trains stop running, food and household items stop getting delivered. We are no way near stocked up enough though imo. Not even 6 months of food stored yet. Canned a $14 1/2 bushel of apples this week, tons of product created from that $14. It felt good. With a limited budget, like myself being retired and having an actual fixed budget limit, make some sort of small adjustment and buy something to put back into the storage. Do that each month until you have what you need to help when things go bad, worse than it is now. Even the smallest little something to store will be a help for ourselves. I've started by putting back $5.00 each month and forgetting about it. It all adds up over time. The thing about this is to start doing it right now. Don't procrastinate because it's a delay in helping ourselves. And it doesn't have to be money it can be anything. Even something you have on hand right now you or it back to save and it'll be there for a later time when needed. Just do it✔️

Another great video and ideas! Never thought of binoculars. A few quick thoughts- fire extinguishers in the car and house. It could save a life and stop you from losing all your preps. About seeds, doing a little research ahead of time can save a lot of frustration. I grew up in the snowy northeast and am now in central Florida, the same plants don't grow well here nor at the same time, plus some seeds germinate faster or slower here. If possible grow catnip if you're inclined to have mosquitoes. They are an all natural mosquito repellent, stronger than deet or citronella and soothing to most dogs and cats. One more thing, how about some extra cheap baseball caps? They're great for sun of course, but they also keep your head dryer, cleaner and add a level of protection against various things like thorns or insects. God Bless us all!

I've been working and listening, so I don't know if you mentioned this reason to cache or not. We're older and bugging out for any distance is pretty much impossible, but, and here's the biggy, in the case of a natural disaster and our house was lost, maybe we escaped in the clothes on our back and the house and all our preps are gone. Yes, we will have friends and family checking on us. They might be in the same disaster we're in. Will it be a few hours? Will it be a couple of days? At the very least, it's important to have a little something stored in an out building or barn. Something to keep us comfortable until help arrives. Do some practice scenarios in your head and see, what would I need to have to live in the barn a few days, etc.
@Lily-has-wings

This is exactly what I thought about the other day. What if our home was destroyed in a fire or natural disaster? All of our prepping would be gone. My modifications for Australia. Note I live at the edge of a metro area in Perth and we are in a group of 60 houses that regularly loses power. Last bad one was Boxing Day 2021 for 5 days in middle of summer. Ditch the bullets (so few people have guns here), body cleaning - know where your local gym is too to wash as well as body wipes. Have a back up gas BBQ to cook. Keep your fridge / freezer closed as much as possible but know what is inside and eat it first. Tell your teens not to bring the generator inside (it stinks). For winter a wood stove has worked for us for heat and cooking. Fill containers with drinking water ASAP lost power here = low to no water pressure until the water department turns on their generator (we empty our hot water tank for emergency drinking water and let the water cool). Heavy metals (gold and silver etc) would only work in an emergency if you have an easy way to exchange it.

Seeds also need to be heirloom so the resulting plants can be seed saved from without gambling on the offspring of those plants being viable for consumption the next year. Added bonus items are entertainment items to maintain mental stability in your families and a Bible, whether you are religious or not as you never know when you may turn to God or have a friend/family member who may need one.
Battery powered chain saws and etc may be better because all you need solar panel with battery pack that can be used to charge those tools. Gasoline is great but you must store it and it can get old.

Another thing I would recommend is to do business with a credit union versus a bank. MUCH better. ALWAYS store your ammo in a sealed ammo can. If you do not your ammo will become garbage. I have a small propane grill in my bug out location. It has a total layer of lava rocks and is the screw in propane can type. Super easy. Those lanterns are also the best. You can get a adapter to recharge those small cans. I also have a Weber Genesis Special Edition grill there I picked up for free in my primary town. I was at the right place in the right time, baby! Total score. It's a $1k+ grill. I'll also be moving my old generator up there. I have a 8k generator here that will run my entire house + the pool LOL.

Apartment dwellers often don't have safes like homeowners. So get fireproof bags to hold your cash, metals, and important papers and stash them inconspicuously. If you don't have time to grab them in a fire, you won't lose everything. It's also a good idea to document it with photos on your phone.

a good idea for using a propane camp stove indoors would be to have a carbon monoxide alarm in that room. You can buy them at home depot. They also have combinaion smoke / carbon monoxide detecters. so, of you're using a propaene stove and are worried about CO, the alarm will sound and warn you. I've also seen videos where they make them for camping, in case you're using one of those camping propane heaters in a tent or camper. You dont want to go to sleep with a propame heater without an alarm. I remember reading an article several years ago where a nfamily died because they were using a charcoal grill for heat in their home because of apower outage. They had gone to bed with the grill burning for warmth. A CO alarm woud have hopefully woke them up before the CO reached toxic levels.
@tacticalmattfoley

If you try that, it will set off the CO2 detector. They are very, very sensitive. I just wouldn't recommend using a camp stove indoors or anything propane powered. I'm a former chemistry/physics teacher....

Well where I live on Sunday a major storm came through in Arizona. It took out power in Kingman Bullhead city Arizona clear down to Havasu. I’m guessing somewhere between 800 and 1000 power poles are not like toothpicks. Some of the people will not have power for 12 days as I was told today. I had my power go out at 6 PM and I got power back at 1 PM the next day. Praise the Lord my generator kicked on within 60 seconds and the whole house lit up so I had air condition. But there is so many people in this area and today was 117°. This is a very hot place along the Colorado river area in Arizona. they were posting cooling stations where people could go to get some water and cool down a little bit and they could bring their pets and they would have crates there for him praise the Lord. I just wonder how many people didn’t have generators lost the food in their freezers and refrigerators it’s so sad. Any other funny thing is I always make sure wherever I’m going it I feel up first thing when I get there. However it was a holiday weekend in California people come here to play on the river and on the lake. So anyhow there’s Indian reservation here and they have a different power company so there was two places in the whole area where I live within a 30 mile radius I gas. And so these people trying to get out of the area go somewhere go without no gas is not going to work so I would keep my car at half for above because I don’t wanna take any chances. But there was so many tourists here from California and they were all backed up into the streets for these two gas stations in the whole area of 30 miles. But I am sad that there is a lot of people that’s going to be without power for 12 days

This may be 2 things (Canned dried and vacum packed food and medicines) 6.Storage area.(Someplace to store food and supplies that is safe, secure and secret.Bury and bury a cargo container?) 7.Water filter and treatment. (gravity fed water filters with high capacity,and able to be flushed and cleaned and treatment for water that is questionable) 8. Solar,wind,and fire.(You need to make your own electricity and gas.) 9.Trustworthy friends and neighbors. (People helping people that think alike. Strength in numbers and for security) 10. Dogs, Guinea hens, gooses, mule. (Something that makes a lot of noise and can warn you about something wrong)

I just used up a 55 gallon barrel of NON ethanol gasoline I bought 5 years ago. Smelled fine, looked good and ran great but you cannot do this with todays pump gasoline with ethanol in it. The trick to storing non ethanol gasoline is blocking light from getting to it as put it in in a steel barrel. Translucent plastic jugs or barrels will work but limit storage to 6 months and keep sunlight off of it anyway you can.

Plastic barrels can generate static electricity in dry weather. Make sure they are on moist ground or somehow discharge the static before opening up to prevent accidental ignition.
@wbvmcgary
2 жыл бұрын
@@rockymntain I would not ever use or recommend plastic barrels for gasoline because gasoline easily ignites and high static will light it off. I use only steel barrels for gasoline.
@rockymntain
2 жыл бұрын
@@wbvmcgary I would agree. However, the smaller plastic storage containers that are currently being sold for gas are the same plastic as barrels and yes, depending on weather, they can retain a static charge which is not safe. They are most unsafe when they are open and being filled and secondarily when dispensing fuel.

How long will that 1000 gal tank last with a whole house generator
@FlyerPatty29
2 жыл бұрын
@@SgtRudySmith31bRet I think I figured it up it would be 42 days to 47 days. Running 24/7. So far since it’s been hooked up the longest I have been was four days without power here. But I purchased the tank so I don’t read it because I knew it would only be an oh my gosh to need for it to run that long. And the rest of my place is all 100% electric so the propane tank I just put in special for that 60 KW generator. Because diesel can get algae and different things after a period of time. Yes it does last longer than gas but still diesel doesn’t have that Longevity compared to propane. But I didn’t want to rent a tank because I knew it would take time to use it and it lasted for a long time. I finally put some in it last year but I’ll have it topped off When it cools down a little bit because you can’t add to it as hot as it is. That’s what I had to do last year when I finally put propane in it for the first time and it’s been a long time I don’t remember the date but it’s been a few years maybe seven or eight
