My mother was a flight attendant for quite some time, in fact, my dad is a Captain, and that's how they met. According to her, if they're not busy (though, they usually are), flight attendants generally appreciate a bit of small talk, such as showing gratitude and appreciation for their hard work, asking how their days are going, travel destinations, etcetera. Just being friendly and outgoing, following instructions, and basic human interaction skills goes a long way according to her. She was an FA for about 12 years before she had me. Both worked and my dad still works for American Airlines. Just a little tip to make traveling more pleasurable for all parties! :)

I am wheelchair bound, so I do need some automatic looking after, but since I am pleasant and kind to the flight attendents, they are very good to me. They will even come and check to see if I need to use the facilities in flight and help me down the aisle if I do.(Usually I try to go before we take off.) The flight attendents will often just come up and hang out and visit with me and do things to amuse me. It's very nice. Especially Delta. Delta's the best.

@@layladventures I'm so sorry I missed your post! I fly Delta now, to the excursion of all other domestic airlines. Delta crew and staff always treat me like a princess! The F/As always sneak me extra Biscoffs because I love them so much, lol! They're so addictive! I am always pampered on a Delta flight, no matter how long it is. Your old motto is so right: Delta- we love to fly and it shows! Indeed it does, which is why I'm willing to pay a little extra to fly your airline! I almost never have delay issues with Delta, either. Delta's on time performance is second to none! When my doctors allow me to be airborne in the spring again(I haven't had COVID, but I've been very ill) I want to start a travel vlog, and I hope Delta will sponsor me so I can give them tons of free advertising! I've noticed that fat people never want to sit next to other fat people on airplanes. I've actually had obese people on both sides of me on a flight before, and their fat literally spilled over my armrest/into my seat. So I lose about half my space thanks to these people... I mean, wtf... if they aren't going to be charged for two seats, they should at least have to sit next to one another when possible.

I'm a bit on the heavy side and I believe I'm pushing the limits for having to pay for two seats. Having said that, I wouldn't hold a grudge against any airline that made me pay for two seats. But I would only ask two things in return. 1. That the extra seat I'm paying for remains vacant. 2. That the airline allow two fatties to pair up so each can pay for half of the center seat.

I'm 5'4 and 200 lbs myself and fit fine in airplane seats, considering my hip size thats not all that bad either. The layout of the planes are designed that way to get as many people as they can into it. So yes, if you do not fit into one seat, no matter what the reason, you should have to pay for the second seat. No one is born fat. It's something that happens depending on your diet and activity. If you wanna go and whine about it, I'd suggest you use that enegry on bettering your health.

It's not his problem also. He also bought the seat with his hard earned cash. Maybe he is just a bigger guy, not a huge obese murican, but wider in the shoulders, that's also a problem. So don’t say they can’t afford it because if they can afford all that junk food, then they can afford normal food. And genetic disorders are still no excuse. My uncle has a genetic disorder that makes losing weight extremely difficult, but always him to gain weight really quickly. You want to know what he did. He got up and decided to exercise. And he didn’t need any expensive videos or gym memberships. He just ran everyday and did normal workout at home, and now, he is healthy and in shape. That's an excellent way of putting it. SOUTHWEST seems to be pretty proactive about this issue. They charge folks who can't fit in one seat 1/2 price for a second seat. If the customer refuses, they put them on the plane while its empty, ask the passenger to sit in a seat and if the armrest can't be lowered because of their girth, they are made to pay for the second seat or they are denied travel.

Basically this is just a list of people that no one on earth likes in the first place. As a former flight attendant, here is a more appropriate list of people flight attendants actually hate: - Drunk people - People who think they are more entitled to anything on the plane than anyone else - People who carry bags onto the plane that are two heavy for them to pick up, and they expect us to pick them up for them. - Passengers who think the rules don't apply to them. - People who have no sense of time or situation. - Passengers who think they are the only one who is affected by whatever problem everyone on the plane is dealing with, like weather delays. - People who think they know more about air travel than the air crew. You don't. Just stop.

It depends on what you do when you "stay at home" - if you are going grocery shopping, dropping off and picking multiple kids off, cooking dinner every night, keeping the house spotlessly clean, etc. it is more work than a full-time 40 hr/week job. "Stay at home" mom doesn't mean you sit around and watch TV for half the day. It means you get your errands done while the kids are in school, then cook dinner and help kids with homework when they are home from school.
@mylittlegator
6 жыл бұрын
At least when I was a stay at home mom I had the luxury of just worrying about the home, kids and meals. As a working mom I get to be responsible for all those things and work a 40 hr work week. As I've said, I have the perspective of both sides and am perfectly capable of deciding who has it harder.
@somebodypiano6191
6 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. Work + kids is definitely more work, but usually when a family is in a stay-at-home + working parent setup, one parent does majority of the housework, errands, childcare, etc. and the other parent focuses on their career/job. In that case, being a stay-at-home mom/dad can be harder than a full-time job, especially if the full-time job does not demand a lot of physical labor. As a stay-at-home mom, you are on your feet for many hours of the day, some of them cleaning, some of them grocery shopping and running errands, and others cooking. After all this work, you are exhausted by the end of the day.

LucaT007 There was a proposal a while ago that asked for a single row of seats on each plane to be made into "disability" seating which would have seats twice the regular size. A row of seats 10 across could now seat 5. You would have to pay a small premium (15%) and prove you required the seat. But would be alot cheaper than buying 2 seats. Its target was to accommodate larger people, those with wheelchairs, and those with service animals. Unfortunately I never heard about any airline implementing it.

'Large people shouldn't have to buy and extra seat'? Now THAT'S where you lost me. I believe if you are large, larger, largest, etc, then it's YOU that needs to pay and not some innocent chump who's lottery in life won him a seat right next to you. I've been there and done that. Fortunately the flight was just around 2 hours, so I could put up with it. But long flights with large people's body parts invading your space just isn't acceptable. It's not as if they don't know that they're large. If they sat down and started a conversation with some with the obvious and a nice deal 'hey I guess you're the unlucky one that got me. I know I'm fat and this flight is going to be a bugger for you. Sorry about that, here's a small gift to compensate'. Then we could work through it. Instead they're quick to claim the arm rest, shuffle about in a way that pushes you to one side, and generally pretend they are normal.

That's what I do on the rare occasions that I've flown. Minus the gift, I never thought of that. But generally, people are cool with it. I've only ever flown on very short flights (Glasgow-Belfast which is around 40 minutes). Not sure how things would have gone if it was a long flight. My condition has made me heavier these days so I tend to sail across now. It takes a lot longer but it's far more comfortable for all concerned. 😀

A kid kicking ur seat is one thing. But the last time I was on a plane to Argentina/Buenos Aires from Huston/Texas, this 80 yr old guy was kicking my chair, shaking it and putting his feet where mine when.... at first I thought it was his self conscious when he was sleeping but then in the morning I looked back when it started again and he was wide awake 🙄🤬😭😵

Tip for when you're flying: Bring an EMPTY bottle with you and fill this up at the airport AFTER the security. This way you do not have to pay increadibly rediculous prices for a tiny bottle of water. For airports where you cannot drink tap water etc. sorry no tip for you there... Happy flying!

Sometimes you’ve got to give parents some slack . I flew to America from the uk at the beginning of the year . There was a couple who had two little girls and the mum was pregnant . She looked exhausted trying to accommodate the older 3 yr old and dad was looking after the quieter younger one . Eventually I invited the 3 year old (with Mum’s permission)to sit with me across the aisle as my friend had moved to the empty seats behind . We got some pens and the inflight magazines and began to look for colours and animals and draw. I also was pointing out things at the window and we watched a movie . I also taught her the art of whispering. I can’t have children but have a knack of getting along well with them . The mum got to have some sleep and my new wee friend learned to write her name and her numbers . I find it hard to listen to people complaining or watching someone struggle .

@@dark_wings9513 I personally stated what I did because I'd be uncomfortable having someone basically spill into my seat. I have no problem with heavier people. I love my girlfriend and she's on the thicker side. But she doesn't take up part of the seat I pay for. So in my opinion: If you reduce the space someone else paid for, you should buy two seats. And you can know how much space you take up before booking the ticket. It's not a matter of bullying, but a matter of comfort. If you make someone else uncomfortable, you should stop.

SB: It's all how you look at it: fat people as NUISANCE vs. fat people as RESOURCE. A fat seatmate makes a great PILLOW, provides USEFUL CUSHIONING in case of air turbulence or (heaven forbid) a crash; think symbiotic relationship and USE him/her!

They also get sweaty way faster and I don't want to have to sit next to someone and have their sweat touch me. I payed for my seat and not for 90% of my seat. If they offer to pay for the percentage of my seat that they are taking up, that's different. But I want to get what I paid for.

The lavatory situation can be helped by timely announcements. Nowadays it's pretty common to put "last call" on the screen when in reality the gate isn't even open. If they make people wait in line for more than an hour, they will get some queuing up in front of the bathroom.
