My favourite mindset shift is realising that I would do the same as others if I was in their situation. For example if I someone cut me up in traffic I just think they're probably late for work. Or I see someone taking drugs I think if I was living their life with the same childhood, parents, experiences etc I would do the same. Makes you a more compassionate person 💚

Mine's kind of similar. When I see someone doing something bad/behaving questionably, I ask myself "What drove them to do it or behave this way?" Not that I'm making excuses for the person, but understanding their actions helps humanize instead of demonizing them. I agree with this concept, but my wife died just over two years ago. In reality, I look around my house and I'm safe, secure, and well-fed. But emotionally, I'm still profoundly impacted. So I can bring myself to reality at times and be content, but if I don't take the time to suffer, then I'm denying myself the love that is contained in the memories. At the same time, I don't want to continue to suffer. It's a tough balance to find that changes from day to day.

A little tip for body acceptance. When I am tempted to find my body not enough this and too much that, I think about all the amazing things that my body does: my heart beats, my lungs absorb the clean air and reject the not-so-clean air, I can hear, see, smell, touch, feel my environment, I can sit and walk, my immune system gets rid of germs and viruses (the list goes on and on). It immediately puts me in a gratitude mindset instead of a judgmental one. Really, what is a pimple on your nose when your nose can smell the rose and the earl grey tea and the skin of a loved one!

Regret is your mind being in the past, anxiety is your mind being in the future. When you ground yourself through meditation, yoga or even just breathing deep and paying attention to what's around you, you can't feel either of those emotions. And living in the present is so much more fulfilling and enjoyable than spending your limited days thinking about missed opportunities or being worried about what's to come.

Doing a little of something is better than nothing. One yoga position, meditate for a minute, brushing your teeth for 10 seconds fold one shirt write one line. 1. Aim for small wins - doing yoga three days a week instead of five days a week, but doing it consistently three days a week is a win 2. Consistency over intensity - same as above. Invest small amounts of money but do it consistently and you will see good growth versus waiting to invest a huge amount which may or may not come. 3. Respect boundaries and set boundaries - dont meddle in others personal affairs and don't get others too involved in yours. Some things should remain personal because overfamiliarity can breed contempt. 4. Experience is a better teacher than any theory you may ever learn - so make mistakes and learn from them. It is the only long term teacher there is. 5. Take help wherever required - therapy is great for mental health and a trainer is great for physical health. Don't aim to do things alone because the value of professional help is very high. 6. Make it a point to appreciate yourself and others regularly. It is a great motivator and helps you get better and better and learn from others too. 7. Step outside home everyday - even if for five minutes. It is important to be exposed to open sky and ground on a daily basis. 8. Trust others based on actions and not words - people may say, especially on social media, how much they love you etc. But the daily interactions with them and how they treat you and how you treat them are what matter the most. 9. Forgive others regularly and forgive yourself regularly - sometimes people are dealing with things we have no idea about and they may take out some anger or frustration on you. Let it go. You may do the same too sometimes and unknowingly. Let it go too :). But, abuse is unacceptable so draw those boundaries. 10. Having no partner is better than having a bad one. But having a good partner is the best part of life so be one and search for one :). Not based on religion or country or xyz but based on equality, ability to question oneself and change and learn, and ability to be patient.

I once had a friend who was really worried about whether or not a professor thought she was smart enough and I said, "you know, he's probably just thinking about lunch" - and I try and tell myself that too when I get self-conscious:). Best life advice I had was the first time I went to summer camp when I was a young teen and I was so scared and my friend told me, "No one here knows who you are or what you are supposed to be like, so you can be anyone and they won't know the difference." It gave me the ability to be brave, try on new approaches and to take bigger risks in life.

I think one of the best ideas I have come across recently goes like this: actively differentiate your thoughts from the act of thinking. You cannot control your thoughts, they will come to you anyway. Choosing to, or not to, dwell on a particular thought is a choice you make. Sometimes we forget that we have this 'choice', it's really empowering to realise this and reclaim that power :)

One of the helpful things I learned from a past therapist that has helped me change my inner talk is: don’t say to yourself what you wouldn’t say to a friend. When you’re saying something mean to yourself, stop and ask: would I say this to my friend? Would I tell my friend she’s fat, or lazy, or not good enough? Of course not! So I definitely shouldn’t be saying it to myself. Talk to yourself as you would talk to someone you love ❤

I tend to be a perfectionist, so several years ago I started saying "practice makes progress" instead of "practice makes perfect" it's helped shift the mindset so that I didn't think I've failed. If the thing I am making (cooking, building, sewing etc...) will do the job I need it to, or tastes good, I don't beat myself up if it's not perfect anymore Another thing I learned, actually talking with my husband, was "define better" He was always going on about how he wanted life to be better, he wanted a better house, he wanted a better this, he wanted a better income... One day I got so sick of it and I looked at him and told him to "define better. Because right now we're living better than I have ever lived. With a better income, and a better house, and better food. Better is an unattainable goal. There's always something better than what you currently have, so if you feel like what you have is insufficient, then figure out what it is you want, and write it down. Define better, and then work towards it, because just wanting "better" means your never going to achieve your goals, because there's ALWAYS something "better"."

Recovering perfectionist here as well. Your post reminded me of a phrase I came up with that really helped me get through a huge project over the summer. I was tasked with staining our pergola. A very difficult task for me to do. I was discouraged by how many mistakes I was making but then I changed the story in my head, that it needed to be perfect. Instead I started saying, “I’m adding protection, not perfection.” I said this over and over. And now I’m done, the pergola is again protected from the sun (the mistakes are hardly noticeable when you’re not laser focused on them). It’s amazing how powerful words. Thank you for sharing!

You gave a metaphor of hiking the mountain only to be focused on getting to the summit and enjoying it for 30 seconds, instead of enjoying the hike. You asked, "How can I enjoy how long this is going to take?" At the time, I was feeling really impatient as I was working through my clinical hours to get licensed in my profession. That was a major mindset shift for me. I wrote that quote on a post-it note and put it on my wall, and I'd look at it whenever I felt impatient with how long I was taking to complete my hours. The post-in note is now faded from the sun, and here I am, 2-3 years later, about to get licensed, and you gave me the permission to enjoy my life and be present even if it took me a long time to get to my goal.

"If a task takes under 2 minutes to complete, do it now". Another lesson which has helped me is to really tune into the voice inside me which tells me to do the right thing, rather than what my emotions dictate in the moment. With a lot of practice, I have managed to change how I act in situations and it has changed my life. Thank you for another great video Sadia, I've been loving your videos since 2017! 😊

The point on its okay to change means a lot to me. I was a vegetarian for 4 years, a period of my life that i absolutely loved, but my health wasn't great, im just a kid at the end of the day so my family who really didn't support it cuz of culture reasons didn't really provide for me to enjoy the lifestyle. I had to change back after a while mainly because i just wanted to be comfortable until i can be a vegetarian properly in the future. It was super hard to chage back, mainly because i was afraid of being mocked that i was just pretending or couldn't resist meat, but eventually i did, sure there was mocking but i did it because i knew it was best for me now and in the future i can change properly.

One of your best videos! Well I lost my mom 3 months back and what I have realised is, nothing is permanent in this life, we all have to depart one day! So please be empathetic and kind towards your fellow beings and dont ever rush in finding joys in materialistic things and do not depend upon finding happiness in completing your career goals. Life is too short to wait for something to be done to make us happy!

"You will have everything you've ever wanted in your life, just never all at the same time." I remember yours mum quote from some older video of yours and it still often crosses my mind when I feel like my life is not completely what I want it to be in a given moment. I totally new it was going to be this one before you said it. Such powerful and wise words. Thanks for videos like this❣

Wow the quote that your mom said that is something that is so true. You can do it and be it all but just in different times, different seasons (Paraphrased). This is something that applies in my life right now especially ❤ A quote that truly changed my life is, "The words you speak build the house you live in" by Rumi. It speaks on the importance of the words that leave our mouth because they truly shape our lives and words are incredibly powerful so it is important to be mindful of them.

"It is okay to change!". Listening to you and your story of change in your life felt so encouraging to me. I immediately thought: 'Oh, good, others feel the same when changing their direction in career and life!'. It always helps to hear that we are not alone with our inner chatter, concerns, judgements.

Dear Sadia, I found your videos looooong ago because I wanted to change my life. I loved them. I loved your peesonality and the way you viewed the world. ❤After the pandemic I got depressed and didn't watch the same content, felt sad, etc. I watched just a few of your videos. 😢.. Today I saw a notification about this lovely video and I must say I still love your core values, the way you speak and the topics that matter to you. Thanks for being authentic, for talking about your own fears, and sharing what you have learned ❤ Greetings and love from a Colombian woman . Thanks for everything you do🤍✨

"Be afraid, and do it anyway" has been one that I tell myself often and it definitely helps. And a general concept of giving myself "permission" for things I never thought I could do, or never thought others would "allow" me to do. Not sure why I have this embedded narrative that I need permission all the time. So allowing yourself to do what you want and giving yourself the green light is great. Just like "no one is coming to save you" I find it empowering actually, no one is coming to say it's okay you can proceed...so just go ahead if it feels right for you!

That you worrying about others hating/not liking/judging you, or talking about you behind your back, is not something they deserve. That you're actually judging them, through no fault of theirs, because of your own fears/insecurities. I saw someone post a video saying this (in a much more elegant way than i've written) and it kind of blew my mind because id never thought about it that way. Definitely triggred a mindset shift in me and has helped me immensely.

Versions of this question changed everything for me: 'Am I dealing with reality or am I dealing with the spectacle of my mind'? I use this inquiry not to deny the things happening in my life or that happened in the past, but to better understand the response of my body and mind to whatever occurs.

I have a quote which changed my mindset completely in last few years: No job is small or easy. Everyone on this planet is doing their job so that all of us work in harmony. And when i say 'job'- it can be professional or even maintaining a relation. We all have our own pains in life that we have to overcome hence its not right to judge someone else for having easier life than you.Especially in the age of this social media, this thought keep me grounded, happy with myself and respectful to others.

just love it, thank for all the beautiful insights you brought up with us, i particularly love that -be patient to yourself, switch the fear to excitement and talk to self as the third party ( as we are the third party), we are neither the body or mind but easily get tangle with all the thoughts, emotions go through us. and it takes practice to create the distance between 'us' and the body and mind. when we start seeing thing from above, everything we see start to change. Thank you

“Your conflicts, all the difficult things, the problematic situations in your life are not chance or haphazard. They are actually yours. They are specifically yours, designed specifically for you by a part of you that loves you more than anything else. The part of you that loves you more than anything else has created roadblocks to lead you to yourself. You are not going in the right direction unless there is something pricking you in the side, telling you, “Look here! This way!” That part of you loves you so much that it doesn’t want you to lose the chance. It will go to extreme measures to wake you up, it will make you suffer greatly if you don’t listen. What else can it do? That is its purpose.” - A.H.Alamas This quote changed the way I look at life!👼

It's ok to change and to ask for help and also to establish your boundaries. People just assume so many things about what you're going through - I'm navigating a tough and deeply sad season of grief and some people think I should be "moving on" by now. It makes me feel so incredibly let down, so I've had to reframe and tell myself that I come first - my mental health and my healing. What you said, Sadia, about being patient with yourself especially if you're journeying into a place you've never been - it's so true. It's so important that we give ourselves kindness, grace, and patience

LOVED this video. Thank you so much for always bringing depth and positivity to the internet. This channel is definitely a cozy and comfortable corner that I regularly come back to. Something I've been thinking about a lot lately is looking at vulnerability and dependencies, within the context of relationships with people, as opportunities for intimacy. I've always found it to be such a privilege when someone might share intimate details of their life or open up and get vulnerable with me, I've always seen it as a big deal. It didn't occur to me until recently that I should also feel that way about myself? Instead of feeling concerned about being a burden to someone else, let's say with needing housing or something, looking at needing a roommate as a privilege, and a way to spend more quality time with someone, rather than just trying to survive, has really created a lot more depth in my relationships. Or a little over a year ago, I needed help getting a new car- just transportation to get there. I chose to use that as a moment to spend and share an otherwise stressful moment with a friend, and now it's a really beautiful memory that both of us reference and look back on. It helped ease my stress, I felt supported, and my friend felt needed and valued in my life. Instead of focusing on being independent, I actively created a moment of intimacy and closeness. The same can be said when I'm going through a hard time. Actively looking to create closeness by confiding in a close friend (I'm someone who naturally handles things more on my own), has created a massive amount of depth (and relatability!) in my most cherished relationships. And it's a perfect example and reminder to my friends how much I appreciate them. ANYWAY, thank you again for having such a wonderful platform! I'd love to oneday do something similar!

These are things that I've learned to apply in my life. Not all necessarily mindset related. 1. Take everything as a learning opportunity. 2. Learn everything as if you were to teach it or explain it to somebody else. This forces me reflect deeper on things, life experiences, school, etc. In general, training oneself in becoming a better teacher or mentor is more than worth it. 3. See the potential in people. I instinctively judge others by how I see them at that moment. But perception is instantaneous whereas people are not. 4. Think of reasons that would make me disagree with my own ideas. A bit extreme, but it helps me stress test my worldview and understand other's. 5. Imagine the person you diskile at a young age. Would you still dislike them?

My favorite quote/perspective is one I heard from Taylor Swift's speech and I have applied it in most of my life since: "Life is a matter of catch and relase." We have to discern which things we must hold on and the things we have to let go of with kindness and grace. It doesn't only talk of material possessions, but of people, relationships, our habits, memories, and even visions and dreams for ourselves, etc. The things we hold on are mostly the positive ones - they're lighter anyway - and by letting go of the things that weigh us down, we make more space for additional positive things in our life.

When speaking with my spiritual mentor, I told him honestly I don’t have time for my meditation practice. I’m just too busy, there are too many other to-do’s on my ever growing list. He responded with one works: Priorities. I realized I’ve been letting other people’s priorities come before my own priorities for my health and wellness, and that has been a powerful shift for me. One word, that’s all I need to remember. ❤🙏 Thank you Sadia and for these beautiful videos!

I loved this video! So many powerful life lessons - I would say a life lesson that has stuck with me is similar to the "I can't do it...yet." my mentor at the time said "It's not IF it's WHEN" the question is never to doubt if your desires, dreams, goals will happen but trusting that it WILL happen that the WHEN is inevitable, the has always stuck with me and has helped me take leaps towards big scary dreams over and over again!

"Mood follows action" combined with Jordan Peterson's thought about how each individual is a tribe of who they were yesterday, who they are today and who they will become tomorrow. As an anxious, perfectionistic person who tends to freeze, overanalize, overplan everything and draining myself to the point of getting stuck, overwhelmed in my head before doing anything, this Rich Roll quote made a lasting shift in my mindset. When my masterplanner mind starts to spiral about how many things I must do, I translated Rich's quote as this: "What can I do for tomorrow's Kata (insert your name 😇) for her to feel just a little bit better?" And I take just one small action towards it to beat getting overwhelmed. I also highly recommend Brené Brown's Atlas of the Heart HBO series (or anything from her really) regarding point 9 in the video. She talks about how labeling our emotions defines our experience. Brené has been my companion for 7+ years, every podcast, interview, book is golden from her.
