Calling the Ken Shamrock-Royce Gracie fight at UFC V a stalemate is misunderstanding what happened. If that fight were to be allowed to continue OR if they had judging Ken would have won that fight and I think most people agree with that. But I think most people also agree it was entirely because of his size and putting all his weight on the smaller Gracie for 30+ minutes (a great strategy for the rule set in place as he thought it was {in their first match there was no time limit}) and had they been the same size the fight would have looked very different.

Up to the Holly fight, she dominated fights just as easily as Khabib has been doing. It was just her head getting to big, after being that dominating for that long, and she started to believe her own hype about her standup game, especially against a world champ Kickboxer. Rhonda will easily be in the HoF, she made Women’s UFC divisions profitable, and without her wins, and losses, there would be no Cyborg or Nunes now.

Big John eventually became a great ref, but you couldn't tell by his first two UFC events (2 & 3) that he knew anything at all about jiu jitsu. There were guys choked out for over half a minute while the guy doing the choking waited for John to call the match. There were also at least three tapouts (one by Royce Gracie) where the fighters stopped after the tapout while John looked at them like "Hey, why are you guys stopping??" Watch UFCs 2 & 3 and you'll see what I'm talking about. By UFC 4 he was jumping in so hard to stop matches that he was injuring the fighters. John definitely became one of the best, but his first few event performances were abysmally awful.

At the time that Gustau Gracie took him in, Judo was in it's earliest stages of being formed by Jigoro Kano. UFC 3 proved that the 8-man tournament format was deeply flawed, but it wasn't the flow; there actually some great tournaments after that. The real nail in the coffin was UFC 11. In a nutshell: Marc Coleman, the newly crowned ground-'n-pound destroyer, is on the opposite side of the bracket of Tank Abbott. The expectation is that they will both crush their initial opposition and meet for a barn-burner of a final. There will _not_ be a repeat of UFC 3, dangit. Here's what happened. 1. Coleman easily obliterates his first opponent. Has a nothing-special journeyman for his second. 2. Abbott easily obliterates his first opponent. Has a relatively little guy for his second, the kind of opponent he enjoys pounding to a pulp and usually does. 3. Coleman easily obliterates his second opponent. 4. Relatively little guy pulls out due to injury, replaced by the first alternate, Scott Ferozzo, a 300+ pound tank with about three times as many offensive options as Abbott. 5. Ferozzo completely frustrates Abbott for 18 minutes and wins a one-sided decision. 6. Everyone waits for Ferozzo to show up for the final. 7. Ferozzo, citing injury and exhaustion, withdraws from the event, leaving the completely unknown second alternate to face Coleman in the final. (Again, the organizers were trying to _avoid_ a repeat of UFC 3.) 8. Everyone waits for the second alternate to show up for the final. 9. Everyone waits some more for the second alternate to show up for the final. 10. Everyone gets really antsy waiting for the second alternate to show up for the final. 11. Nasty rumors swirl around that this so-called Second Alternate is actually a mythological figure, not unlike the Honest Politician. 12. The announcement goes out: The second alternate is either injured, lazy, or cowardly and thus cannot compete tonight; the final match is officially cancelled and Coleman is the champion *by default.* After Ultimate Ultimate '96, UFC switched from 8-man to 4-man and never looked back. The last tournament of any kind was at UFC 23.

I'm not a mma fan. Don't recognize any of these guys. However, this was really interesting.

Many here still don't understand what Rorion intention was at the time. Back then around 91,92 Mixed martial art didn't exist, anyone would go to his academy to train a specific type of martial art.Wrestle that many star still on high school,Kung Fu,Karate,Judo and so on.Jiu-Jitsu nobody never new exist or if they did not the way Master Carlos and his brother Hélio made, create new ways to use it. His point was to show JJ against any other type of M Art alone was superior,if you were a wrestler, karate or whatever you would end up losing the fight. So he peeked his younger and skinny brother to fight anyone,it didn't matter what you were good at it,weight.size in the end the weaker guy JJ black belt was gonna beat you. That was exactly what did happened, never was to showcase the Grace family at all. Fighters were really surprised with that ground game. Today every single MMA fighter learns and train what now people call BJJ we never did. Also is an art that you are not allowed to punch throw elbows,at the academy they never teach you that. Today it all changed, you finish with your master and go to another room punch bag, kick a wood pool, only on few academies. As we the old folks did learn, was never to fight only to feel good about yourself and if was no way out have the confidence you could face a guy stronger than you. Would put him to take a nap or have him beg you pls stop without a single punch. Never got my black belt, moved to live at the US when was and still one below, brown,am a 61 old man and during my entire life only had to use twice. Won't say it was a fight on both occasions because they last less than 30 seconds . One in Malibu with a local big surfer,I surf and the reason was just because i with a brazilian board and trunks, and he didn't like it,way back in 82. Told him pls no fight, had a really poor english but he stuck his fins on my board.Well it did not end up so good for him, first put him to sleep and walked away, sure was not alone. Soon after he came to his senses and saw me 10,15 yards leaving, did not realize what went on,got up and star running towards me still a bit dizzy. Was walking away but sure looking back, saw he was coming turn my body and wait what looked like a drunk person running, thought have do finish him without putting him unconscious. Gave him an arm lock til he asked to stop, once he did told him. We are over my friend, right. He said yes pls, and was that. After we became friends, was a local in Malibu, told him after my friend never do that again with anybody, unless they disrespect you, snake your wave when is not a local . Tell whoever not do it again, end up teaching him and few others some moves while in the sand or one of the houses .
