Of course Hell Bent had to be first on this list, but I will be one of those defenders of it as a fitting ending to both the Doctor and Clara. the scenes in the diner alone are worth it to me to show how much they meant to each other but at the same time were destined to part ways forever. The subplot with the Timelords could have been better, and the whole Hybrid thing should have been cleanly indicated as being the combo of 12 and Clara, but regardless I still find pleasure in it even if a lot of others don't. Still love it though.

I am so much in agrrement with you. I love Hell Bent but almost split it in to two categories. The main narrative with the hybrid and Ashielda (a character I found very ingratiating) and the whole Timelord Gallifrey stuff I couldn’t really be bothered with. So, I didn’t. But then we got some of the most emotionally overwhelming scenes between a Doctor and companion ever in the entire show’s history. Capaldi and Coleman are on top form and there acting here is phenomenal. Just in a glance both actors and convey a mountain of feelings with love and affection being the pinnacle. This is the Clara I loved and what puts her above all others. The undeniable but undefinable bond between these two is about as powerful and yet tender as it gets. Just look at the way Clara smiles at the Doctor in those diner scenes. The emotional gravity packs a huge punch and I doubt will ever be topped. At the end I am feeling a huge love for them both - which is worrying seeing it’s a work of fiction. So yeah, the story for me was just filler waiting to end so to get back into the leads and their amazing chemistry. The dialogue was perfect (who says Moffat can’t write good dialogue for women? What tosh!) Whenever I think DW two things, no make that three, come to mind before all others; Tom Baker, The Twelve Doctor and Clara. DW with emotional pull and consequences. Compare this to Empire of Death and the former shines like a bright star. I leant life lessons from when DW could deliver dialogue and scripts like this. In the recent series we didn't even have answers or resolutions to the most prominent threads through the season. What a difference a day makes.

It really is a weird one. The whole hybrid stuff is, in my opinion, never fully developed, so much so that every time i rewatch the series i cannot for the life of me remember what it is (and i mustve seen it 4+ times now). However, I think it has the best character work handsdown of any Doctor Who story. The codependency of the two, the Doctor refusing to just let Clara die, quite literally killing his own people just for her, only to eventually realise what hes done, and that they need to split for the both of their best interests. That and the small twist that the doctor is the one who lost his memory is devastating to me, and feels right as the only way they could ever be split. Though Clara and Me being essentially immortal is another one of thise Moffatisme.. i think Clara shouldve said goodbye to the doctor in the cafe, and gone back to the gallifrey HQ or whatever its called and put herself back in her death moment, accepting that she went too far and she isnt immortal, because her being fine in the end counteracts her whole arc of thinking shes immortal when she isnt
@cameronhermann9400

I liked it too, except having Clara, still dead, running around in a stolen Tardis is trying too hard to appear as a happy ending. Going back to Gallifrey would have been a more realistic and respectful ending
@KoziKazi
24 күн бұрын
@@cameronhermann9400 yeah it really does feel like such a backwards ending. Her whole arc is that she ISNT the doctor, she is mortal and she forgets that, and pays the ultimate price, and its devastating. Death in Heaven - I don't think it's perfect, but I really liked that Missy's plan was to try and tempt the Doctor by offering him an army that he could do a lot of positive stuff with (but would probably also corrupt him in the process). I thought that was an interesting direction to go in, rather than doing the whole 'world domination plot' again. Beast Below is fantastic. Always felt like it's very underrated, and sold me on what Amy brought to the table as a companion. Ruby could have done with an episode like that in S1/14 really. I'll admit to being pretty down on Hell Bent initially, but someone pointed out that it's essentially a character study on the Doctor not being able to handle losing Clara, rather than about Clara being brought back. Subsequent re-watches with that in mind have made me really appreciate it (particularly as a follow-up to Heaven Sent). I don't think the title of 'Let's Kill Hitler' is confusing or misleading in the slightest - I always assumed that it referred more to the thought experiment (which applies in-episode to both the Teselecta - twice - and River herself). Did anyone really think they'd actually kill Hitler?

I do get the criticisms leveled here, like I don't think it should have followed immediately after a good man goes to war. I think we needed a breather episode to deal with some complex emotions from Amy and Rory. However taking the episode by itself is quite a fun romp, that creates the river character that we know and love nicely, and I really like that the title doesn't actually refer to the plot except for the fact that it's something that every time travel story will inevitably question at some point, and doctor who has handled the question beautifully more than once

@@veggiet2009 On a rewatch, I would argue that the following episode Night Terrors had a much bigger potential to be that breather complex emotions episode. I think I might have a shot at answering that. The Time Lord Victorious comes about because the Doctor has been traveling alone for some time, lacking the moderating influence of a companion (see also the ending of The Runaway Bride and its alternate universe version in Turn Left). 12 in Hell Bent, on the other hand, goes bonkers because he just lost a companion - something that has happened to the character literally dozens of times and never drove him anywhere near this level of insanity, especially not when the death was the companion's own fault. 5 didn't go kill-crazy when Adric died; neither did 11 when Amy and Rory got timelocked in 1930's New York. So the only explanation is that Clara was just oh so special, and that never sat well with me from the start. And as a resolution to the whole Gallifrey thing, Hell Bent was a disappointment almost on a Timeless Children level.

Isn't that the worst Dr Who episode of all times?

Are you kidding, Tallulah’s got the best in the two episodes: “He’s into musical theatre, huh … ?”

Isn't "73 Yards" coming out in book form next week? If so, then I'm sure it'll expand and explain

Daleks in Manhattan and evolution of the Daleks are definitely episodes that I remember when I watch them thanks to both the flapper girl and pigman love story and the human Dalek

If you realize that 73 yards stars the Tardis it all makes sense

I really enjoy watching Daleks in Manhattan just because it shows what length desperate Daleks will go to survive. Sure, the Dalek Sec hybrid would have worked more if it had a more disoriented and disturbing look, but overall, a really good story

MOST of these episodes shouldn't even be on here. - WW3/aliens of london belong here due to the slytheen being annoying with the fart jokes, if I remember the sja took that out but they had them become the enemy every other week so. - Daleks in manhattan/Evolution of the daleks is ... weird, it also goes against what the daleks are, these ones were pure time war daleks too. The rest aren't really seen as divisive, hell the death in heaven/dark water stuff is only here because actual whiners complained and it was more religious people that done it.

So is this now responsible for 'Love & Monsters' and 'Fear Her' not being around to view on iPlayer? I understand all concerns, but if I had one complaint about modern Whovianism, it is its tendency to rewrite history without understanding the context of that history. There will be people who will claim 'Talons of Weng-Chiang' should not exist, based on one very obvious and problematic piece of casting. But that is ignoring context. In another 47 years, what, in our culture, will be objectionable to the people of tomorrow? You cannot allow for it, because we do not know.

Billy Cruddup as Rod Serling in a Twilight Zone tribute episode would be awesome. Have them literally visit and have to survive in The Twilight Zone avoiding twists & monsters from classic episodes while Serling keeps monologuing?

Calling Tula annoying is very offensive to Americans that's how one of the states sound like especially 20s New York I wonder would you call her annoying if she was black no no you wouldn't.

That's what i liked about Capaldi's era it sometimes got too dark and scary and unnerving like World Enough and Time, who can forget the scene. Pain, pain, pain. 73 Yards, yeah I'll probably come back to that few years see if my thoughts change. Heaven Sent is a brilliant one man show from Peter Capaldi, Hell Bent i thought was a decent one but yeah it dose have its flaws.
