The greatest film of all time. Especially when one considers the adversity Coppolla faced in making it. So powerful that it inspired me to join the Army which was the best decision I ever made. What's cool is that I'm now retired and living in the Philippines where the movie was filmed. Thank you Mr. Coppola for putting it all on the line to create this beautiful, American masterpiece!

@@dyorgewiltonspassos183 I'm talking about Apocalypse Now, not HOD. They're not the same entity, and AN has barely any commentary on US Imperialism or even the Vietnam war, other than a few throwaway lines that serve more to explore certain characters than the conflict at large.

@@braedembenoit1107 No, my friend, this would be wrong: Apocalypse Now! is a masterclass in visual storytelling, with tremendous thematic and character depth and taste of Nietzsche, a taste much sweeter than Whining. The actors successfully captured the complexity of the human psyche and the ambiguity of morality, and all this served the story amidst the chaos of the Vietnam War and all wars! The movie doesn't stink in the least and has aged so well. Apocalypse Now is one of the least pretentious pieces of garbage ever produced, and presents Conrad, my comrade, like no other. Coppola has made other great films like Tucker, A Man and His Tool and Finian's Rainbow, and so many other films by Coppola have a 50% rating. But The Conversation was interesting, and The Godfather was good filmmaking.

for years, I dismissed the idea of there being a “greatest movie of all-time” since there’s far too many groundbreaking films of varying genres for there to be a sole contender. after I first watched Apocalypse Now, I realized I was mistaken; *this* is the greatest film ever made

My favorite. Changed my life. On the DVD it's wide-screen with the black bars at the top & bottom of the screen. Why have a big screen TV if you can't utilize the full screen? The VHS was better.
