He was catching Yan's both hands, only his legs were free for strikes, and Aljo not even attempted to get up. This let to Yan throw 1 knee. @@struggle-dad6715 So many people don’t know what a triangle is, especially back then. Even when they see the footage, they think Matt acted consciously. Two things I blame; gravity, and Newton trying too hard for the choke. He should have done a breakfall. It looks like a slam, until you realise Matt didn’t move his feet at all, and just dropped due to the fact that he was holding a man off the ground while fainting. Even worse, this gave Matt some “slam confidence”. Over the years I used to laugh at ufc/fans for hyping Matt’s slams and wrestling. As a boxing , kickboxing, judo and japanese jujitsu guy, I thought it was hilarious that american wrestlers slam people onto their butts (Frank Trigg) or onto their backs. I wish I’d been thrown onto my butt. Personally, I throw people onto their neck or face and land in a sub. Hughes was dropping ppl on the ground and the crowd would go wild for what was essentially a wrestling point. I’d never seen painless “takedowns” until I saw american wrestlers in ufc. Can’t do that in a real fight. The “downed opponents” rule really helps them. BTW - Trigg also ko’ed Hughes and then woke him up (granted, he did land a lowblow too) but this Newton win was a massive mistake.

Aljo 100% deserved to win his fight against Yan. Yan landed an illegal strike, period. We can discuss how knees to a downed opponent should be legal or at least don’t count a hand down as be “downed”. I would say a fighter is only grounded when both knees are on the ground or their back, butt is touching the canvas. We all know Yan is going to win the rematch, it’s why Aljo pulled out due to neck surgery recovery and is then seen on video head banging. None of this changes the fact that Yan landed an illegal strike with no way of knowing how it would have altered the fight going forward. He lost fair and square.

Are you saying Poirer should not have the win against Connor in fight 3? Poirer was owning Connor before he broke his ankle or whatever it was. If that fight made it to round 2, poirer would've destroyed Connor and properly embarrassed him.

@@andrewyeah3143 All I’m saying is that even though Poirier could have embarrassed him, the fact is the fight only got called on the basis of Conor’s freak injury. Shouldn’t have been a TKO win for Dustin.

@@emekajonathan5802 fair enough. Although I think that a Dr stoppage is still classified as a tko as a decision has been made that the fighter cannot safely continue the fight

You can't say this. Like Chandler said, we can't know. Imagine IF Olivera whould broke his own leg after round 1. And we not see round 2
