Another great video! Love this series :D If we ever get done with Keep or Cull, we might want to do something similar 🙃 Some of these I was really hoping would be better, but we might give them a try ourself as well, just to make sure 😂 Cannot wait to see you face to face in a few weeks! Have an amazing day 🥳

Excellent video - I love your energies! And in addition to that, I really appreciate you making comparisons to other games where you see them because that certainly helps me to figure out if a game will be something I'd enjoy.

About Eila -- first of all I agree with a lot of your comments. What I think makes it worse, is it not only looks like a game for kids on the surface but the original age group listed (still visible on the KS page) for 7+ and they sold a cute stuffed animal alongside the game. Every indication from the KS was that it would be appropriate for a family, which is why I backed it. Then I got the game and, now you've seen it too, the story goes to a deceptively dark place...even the "good" ending requires preparing an 7 or 8 year old to understand. I think there is are interesting family-level mechanisms in there but I was so put off by the ending that I cannot ever recommend it to families and it's a bit too simple for adult solo gamers I know.

Those darker story notes are one big reason why the NorthStar version comes with an age recommendation of 12+.

Another great video! Glad to see the 10, out of 10 back! Thanks for these reviews. I just love how you both are so authentic in your reviews with the good and the not so good! So what's on my list now from this video? 🙃 That would be Seas and Strife!

Eila and Something Shiny is sooooo good! I would love to see more like it. I played through it a few times to see all the different story parts, and then passed it on in our game club since it's been very hard to find for years (and went for insane prices on the secondhand market). It's good to see it finally making a comeback so more people can enjoy this wonderful game. And yes, eithout giving any spoilers I agree the ending can be upsetting. It certainly goes against expectations, but I think that is also a strength as it really sets the game apart and makes it more than a fluffy children's story game (same as with the darker elements you sometimes find on the journey). I do like fluffy games, but this one was much more memorable because of the emotional impact.

I enjoyed very much your honest assessment of each of the games and thought you raised great points. My wife and I (she's not much of a gamer) have LOVED our time with Sagrada Artisans. She loves to color in the windows, and I have enjoyed so far the progression of the game (we have currently only completed the first three windows). To be fair, Pandemic Legacy was a bit much for us to manage and we never completed it, so this is about her speed for legacy games. I am wondering if playing all of those scenarios so close together at such a breakneck pace contributed to the feeling of the harsh tones. I barely noticed it until you mentioned it :). Just wanted to give a counter point, and hope you have a wonderful time at Essen and looking forward to what surprises you bring back from there!

Such a great episode. Four Humors looks to be right up my alley -if for the graphic design alone - and I'm going to be looking to add Sea & Strife to my collection. As always, thoughtful, articulate, and informative. Also: thank you for frivolously! 🤗

Have you all ever listened to the podcast Sawbones? It’s a US comedy medical history podcast hosted by a family practice doctor and not medically savvy comedian. They have an episode on the four humors (they used this spelling for the podcast) from several years ago. Not board game related per se but thought Maggie in particular might find it entertaining given the health care background and love for the quirky themed four humours game.

Nice video. I love Sagrada, but you just confirmed my original take, that I don't need this one. Especially also because I don't love roll & fill-ins as much as you, generally. But great episode. 140 games in - 800 (?) to go.

I highly suggest rewatching Game of Thrones. I did and enjoyed it from start to finish even more. While the ending is still very tragic and bittersweet, rewatching it from the start made it all click, and it feels like the right ending. I know a lot of people don’t want to accept it, but it’s a brilliant story when you rewatch. Can’t speak to the game in question, though 😂

I didn't say anything for Eila and something shiny because you all seemed so excited(all content creator who got it from gencon) about it but i guess nobody read the coments on bgg either, a lot of people actually complained about the end and i'm surprised they didn't rework it for this printing because it's really bad, i guess you got the same ending as me. I liked how it played but there is no deph to the game, not in the story, not in the choices, not in the fight (pure luck), not in the evolution. I think it's weird, the game play like for a kid but the game is for adults...i don't even know how i could have played differently to have a different ending, i feel like i didn't really have a choice i just missed ONE door at the begining i guess...

I love the fact you are using visuals and time stamps to indicate which game you are talking about. I don't know remember who I suggested this to, but I could not finish someone's video that was entirely focused on the person talking for 30 minutes with no visual cues as to what was being discussed.

I haven't played Sagrada in ages but was curious about the legacy game. I was looking at the Kickstarter as I was interested in your comments and the ideal of the game. I can't help but think that the idea of mindfulness adulting colouring as an activity has perhaps changed/coloured (ha) your perceptions of the game? I am unsure if there was further marketing or comments from the creators linking this idea onto the game or if it's assumed when the activities are so similar and this it's reasonable to expect that most would be that expectation. In saying that, even if you don't go into it expecting mindfulness/relaxing colouring, that does little to counter your other points.

Just curious… you often talk about sustainability and environment in your videos, and how the board game industry must become better at this. I totally agree with this. I also see you as part of this industry since you make money from featuring games and have a by now quite big reach. So.. you should be able to set good examples and “put your money where your mouth is” so to speak. How do you make that stated environmental concern match up with your numerous long flights? It should be no news to anyone by now that the number one action we all need to take (individuals, companies and governments) is to massively reduce the amount of CO2 we all spew into the atmosphere. Specially after this summer with its many many climate related disasters and deaths one would hope that people in some way wakes up and sees the serious situation we are in, and unfortunately steadily keeps making worse. Trips by plane (and you are taking plenty of very long trips it seems) are adding an enormous amount of CO2 to the atmosphere and is immensely worse for the planet than a few pieces of paper. It feels a bit hollow and naive, and if you excuse me being blunt; quite frankly fake, to claim to be so concerned about the environment that you make a point about a few pieces of paper thrown away, but still indulge in the most environmentally destructive activity possible on a very regular basis. I am really hoping for people with power like yourself, to actually start living as they preach. To really inspire and be vocal about the actions we need to take to have a future. I hope this comment finds you well and that you see it as a friendly challenge to do and inspire better habits and choices. After all we only have one planet - and wether we decide to treasure it or trash it is up to us. 💕
