Congratulations Natalie for standing up for yourself and not backing down because of what other's think. In the 60's you would have been a hero. In the 1900's you would have been known as a pioneer. For people who don't know about our constitution, it's time to respect others and in order for our country to grow, we need to have diversity, change, people to speak up. Natalie is enormously talented and I hope she continues to have much success.

The Dixie Chicks made me like country music again. It is a shame that their presence in country music scene is not around anymore. I am a veteran of the Marine Corps and the Army and an OEF vet. They were right in saying what they said and every american should be able to say what they want without persecution from anybody. I am pissed that idiots in the country music industry were so damn scared about what people thought and shunned them in the first place and ruined a prolific band. Piss on them Natalie, say what you want.

Everyone keeps asking if country music is ready to forgive her but the REAL question is are the chicks, especially Natalie, ready to forgive country music. They were vilified and hated and really thrown under the bus by everyone included fellow artists who did not stand up for them, country radio which helped in the boycott of their music and most of all the so called 'fans' who turned their backs on them because they decided to speak out against the Bush administration and it's determination to invade a country without merit. I genuinely hope from the bottom of my heart as a fan and someone who grew up on the Dixie Chicks that Natalie, Emily and Martie can forgive everyone and get back together sometime soon and start making their beautiful music again and we would all be privileged if they chose to do so.

You are supposed to be quiet and not make waves? Screw them. The Chicks deserve to voice their opinions. This isn't the 1800s . They don't need anyone telling them how they should think/behave. You have got to respect her. Her much debated statement turned out to be much more assertive as time has passed by. Hatemonger: Toby Keith and his hate-charged minions may have won the battle at the time with their ignorant witch-hunt, but in the scheme of things, she will be remembered as the heroine who exercised her right for free-speech and stood fearlessly in the face of adversity. Comment 2. I served in the Special forces, there are exceptions of course, but no soldier wants to go to war, the prospect of killing or being killed is not appealing to say the least. I road in a transport with a group of soldiers, they were terrified, one voiced a common theme. He joined up after high school out of a loss of direction, to get some experience, food shelter paid for, he never expected to actually go to war. At the time I got a pissed off and admonished him, not for being afraid, but for wanting a free ride. A soldiers job is to fight for their country, what the hell was he thinking he was training for? Something I regret saying. They went their way I went mine, I hope they all made it, chances some did not.

Everyone says she should have a right to "free speech"! Well she exercised that right and learned a few things as a result of doing that. The majority of us can speak our minds without retribution and penalty, but when you have the platform they had, the price could be very high and it was a perfect example of "failing to put her brain in gear before engaging her mouth"! The management of the Chicks failed them big time by not giving the proper council on "staying in their lane"! I for one am not interested in the political position of entertainers, including actors, musicians, athletes, disk jockeys, etc.

The Dixie Chicks were the best thing to come along in country music in years and then, after Maines said what my father, myself and my older son served and fought for her right to say (and her opinion was correct, BTW), they were ostracized from country radio and turned against by right wing "fans" who pretend they are all about the first amendment when in fact they are but only when it applies to them (just ask Trump). Just listen to how far down country music, if it can even be called that anymore, has gone since. It should just be called the crap that it is. So, they were the best thing to happen to country music and then their vilification was the absolute WORST thing to happen to country music. I won't mention any names but their talent is so head and shoulders far above anyone else in "country", and equal to anyone in modern music , that I for one will continue to listen and enjoy anything they produce, collectively or individually.

Country music hurts my ears makes me feel the way fingernails on chalk makes some other people feel. To me, it sounds like a whole lot of mournful wailing that- were it not accompanied by music- would just be melodic whinging. It's no different (to me) than hearing muslims singing quranic verses. HOWEVER, this girl's voice... It's touching, it's piercing, it's indescribably stark and beautiful. She's as bewitching as a modern day Stevie Nicks. THAT is the point - she DID NOT use FREE SPEECH!!!!!! She attacked our President - from a foreign shore - on the eve of war!!! That is as close to treason as you can get!! If you do not have anything good to say - "SHUT UP AND SING" - but NEVER - and I mean NEVER attack a president from a foreign shore - of the ever of a war!!! NEVER!!! She will be forever known MORE for this - than her music!!! And that is a shame - she has a gorgeous voice - but obviously - NO BRAIN!!!!

"I made my bed, and I sleep like a baby With no regrets, and I don't mind saying It's a sad, sad story When a mother will teach her daughter That she ought to hate a perfect stranger And how in the world Can the words that I said Send somebody so over the edge That they'd write me a letter Saying that I better Shut up and sing Or my life will be over?" - The Dixie Chicks

I don’t think the issue is whether you agree with or disagree with what she said. It is, after all, freedom of speech in the western world. To me, the painful issue is whether what she said in the time and place she said it was worth the disintegration of a really great group. I think she feels that it was worth it. I disagree with her. It also affected the lives of her band mates, roadies, support staff, etc. And, there are no more Dixie Chicks recordings after this period. The other thing I would say is that it’s a little bit deceptive and disingenuous of her to say that she thought that the country music industry and fans were accepting of her liberalism until they turned on her and proved to be the narrow-minded conservative stereotypes she had heard about. That’s just straight out B.S. because she was in no way a newbie to the country music industry. She grew up with a father who was one of THE best pedal steel country guitarists in the world and was well aware of her surroundings; enough to put forth the image of a wholesome blonde country girl image long enough to make millions of dollars until her faux pax. It’s funny because we’re supposed to separate the artist’s political opinions from their music, or acting in many cases. And yet, if we react negatively to their unsolicited public comments, we’re ignorant and narrow-minded. Nice double standard, Natalie. By saying that about narrow-mindedness, she’s just lashing out to punish the industry she estranged herself from. Artists can feel and say what the way they want. But there are consequences. In this case, I strongly believe that she should have expressed her political opinions in a forum that wouldn’t have taken the toll that it did. But she is who she is, so in that context of impulsivity or whatever one would call it, she was destined to do what she did. To me, it’s really a shame because that trio was superb in their artistry. And they are no more. The world lost something really special. And for that reason, I think that she made the mistake of a lifetime. Chemistry and success like that come around about as often as Haley’s Comet.

I think it is truly amazing, these wonderful MIGHTY WOMAN STOOD UP AND SPOKE HOW THE FEEL AND FELT. Then they were burned and walked all over. But yet today, people can insult OUR PRESIDENT OUR GOVERNMENT AND IT IS ALLOWED, and no one is thrown out and abolished from work or there jobs. Maybe we should think of all the young woman they touched AND MADE BE STRONG WOMAN!! Always remember when you are pointing a finger at someone there is three pointing back at you!!

These mean people are called trolls. They live in their mommy's basement. Or have no control in their life so they try to exercise it by being mean on the internet. I just read an article about them. I feel so sorry for them. I wish I could find them and give them a hug.

No one ever said she didn't have the right to say what she did. Just as I have the right to change the channel on the radio when their music comes on.

She was right about the wars tho.. What did they achieve? Trillions of dollars in debt and 1000's of Americans killed so the Bush family and their friends could profit.

The truth is VERY SIMPLE - even for you - the Dixie Chicks are GONE FOREVER and Natalie will NEVER have another career!!!! She knows that NOW - even though - at first - she DID apologize MANY times- but nobody was listening - so she simply stopped apologizing!!! Too bad - something she HAD to learn the hard way!!!!!!
