Agree! Is difficult to take advantage of airline status if you travel with family members like I do. I prefer my Hilton status over any other status. My mid tier duo is the Hilton Business the with AMEX gold. I will add the Aspire soon. The resort credit, status upgrade, food credit, 5th night free, lounge access and getting 2 free nights certificates is just amazing if you are loyal to a hotel brand. Thanks for another great video! Keep them coming 💪

Domestically we are typically flying 2-4 hours. At the hotels we stay 2-5 days. As long as the airline takes me and drops me to a hotel that gives me free suite upgrades, breakfast and a food credit I’ll be happy. Hotel status Over airline all day !

I rarely fly, so flight loyalty programs don't really fit my strategy. I am moving from a cash back strategy to a hotel loyalty strategy because many of the things you mentioned. The perks and potential rewards outweigh the cash back in my opinion. My family values these experiences and time spent together, so getting free upgrades/nights/stays and meal credits are much more fun to have in my opinion.

Another great video Luke! I used to focus a lot on airline status. In 2021 I spent my way to AA gold status using my AAdvantage card. It’s great to have, but you can only enjoy it for the duration of the flight which for me are usually short haul flights. In 2022 I switched up the strategy and I am focused on hotel status. I have Hilton Diamond, Marriott Gold, and Caesar’s Diamond. I value these statuses much more as I can share the benefits with my P2 for a few or more days while on vacation compared to a short 1-3 hour flight. I love to see the look on my P2’s face when we arrive at a hotel and get upgraded to a suite and it didn’t cost a dime.

Great points! I was thinking about this the other day as we plan a road trip with a family of 5. Most of my flying is through work, so I might be able to use lounge benefits, but hotel rewards apply with work and personal travel. Getting economy flights with points for a family of 5 only happens every year or two, but we stay in several hotels each year. I'm thinking of going the Hilton route because we generally enjoy that brand. I know Hyatt is popular in the CC content creator space, but they aren't a convenient to most of our travels and Hilton's exist most places we go.

This video made me think about a scene in the movie "Up in the Air," when the pilot, played by Sam Elliot, leaves the cockpit to congratulate George Clooney's character on becoming a Million Mile Club member. If you are flying constantly, having elite status that makes an essentially unpleasant experience a bit more pleasant might matter. For the few times I fly, an upgrade to premium economy gives me some legroom and a chance to board earlier, and that's about all I'd need or want. Blowing a ton of points on a long-haul business class semi-bed doesn't have much appeal. And you don't need airline elite status to get lounge access--your videos make that pretty clear. Thanks for another insightful video.

I value airline status over hotel. 1. I live near Seatac, the hub of Alaska Airlines, so anywhere in the country is accessible on AS or their partner AA 2. When traveling for leisure i’m often going with multiple friends and airbnb is more suitable for our needs. 3. When I have gone on trips with myself of +1, they are usually active vacations without a lot of time hanging out at the hotel. 4. I travel for work, and i’m often in smaller towns where there’s only a Fairfield or Hampton Inn, where the elite benefits don’t have a chance to shine. 5. in the past year of traveling, i’ve gotten (almost) Bonvoy Titanium and Honors Gold, so at this point i’d rather have to do a mileage run than a mattress run to reach the next tier of Mileage Plan status, of which I’m MVP in order to get a higher multiplier on my miles earned. 6. The travel I want to do most in the future is international, in which case the most cost prohibitive part is airfare. So i’d rather put my spend on my Alaska CC to get more miles for Oneworld flight redemptions. I don’t even have a Marriott or Hilton CC
@LukesPointsandMiles

No argument here, but #5 cuts both ways re: proximity to a hub: Delta status is no guarantee of anything in Atlanta. For most flights, it's either diamond needed for any upgrades, or it's a waste of time to bother with status. It's almost an easier choice in a hub like Atlanta to commit to hotels if you're not willing to play the byzantine status game: credit card with airline of choice in your city for free bags and priority boarding (this will cover family for free checked bags as well) and then off to upgrades at whatever Hilton property you're staying at. Picking your airline far from a hub may be harder, but I bet you'd get more upgrades as a silver medallion member in Cleveland than I would get as a platinum member in Atlanta. It's still worth less than hotel status for every reason you listed here and then some, but the grass isn't always greener in the hubs when it comes to airline status
@LukesPointsandMiles
2 жыл бұрын
I understand that. I’m sure the upgrades would be there for the flight “to” Atlanta or “to” Detroit. So great I get an upgrade for the 1 hour flights. Because they won’t fly me anywhere besides a hub. At that point I’m back at the end of the line.

Not to mention that some frequent flyer perks come with holding a premium credit card of the airline.

the thing is tho when booking over the hotels website (in order to get rewarded) it is almost 30%-50% more expensive in comparison to searching for good deals from other websites, which of course dont give you the hotel status benefits.
