OKIDOKI GUYS! I have been getting lots of comments from people thinking I am against snail keeping. But if you watch the video then you'll see that that isn't the case. At all! I do encourage snails as pets but I also think its good to give the cons about pets. I plan on having a con video for every pet I own. I dont think that nobody should keep them. Obviously I keep them and I have care guides for them so you can learn yourself. I upload these so people can be even more informed and its not all painted up to have no flaws. I love snails and I love that you guys love snails 🐌💕

It's because your title sucks and makes snails seem like bad pets, and you don't really seem to know a lot about snails. 7 of 10 not to get snails are not even real issues. The gnats and mold are rough though for real, so that is one good warning

@@pajamapantsmonday6893 i also said in the video that these arent all my points and I dont see a lot of them as cons. But everyone is different. I asked groups and ended up with people saying their own cons. I added up the most common ones. Your experience isnt the same as everyone else's. Mine isnt either. I hate culling. in the video you mentioned snails being social, this is actually a common myth! there isn’t anything proving snails require other snails. they cannot get lonely (they aren’t “advanced” enough to feel emotions) and the only thing i see is that they have more enrichment when it comes to getting food- but that’s it, and there are no negative impacts we have seen to keeping a snail on its own!

Yes. People are allowed to have whatever pet they want (if its legal of course lol) I disagree that people already know the cons however. I think that's something I might try if I ever am over burdened and my decollates can't keep up
@ExploringExotics
3 жыл бұрын
So studies are showing that snails do not really feel pain like we do but they do feel stress. freezing living snails is extremely stressful and is considered inhumane. Eggs would not feel it which is why it is acceptable but live snails at any age should be crushed. it is easy to crush the smaller ones since they dont have very strong shells however if you do want to sedate them or you have a larger snail that needs euthanized, then you can give them a beer bath before hand. ofcourse if you crush try to make it a solid and quick one and done crush to avoid them experiencing the stress or potential pain

@ExploringExotics

From what I can tell its mostly the same but depends on your slug species. Ive seen that a good amount of species need a higher protein diet and are more prone to cannibalizing but honestly Im not for sure. A lot of snail Facebook groups could probably help though!

I have a question! So my boyfriend lives in the city and i found 3 giant garden snails by the road. I've never seen snails before so I got excited and I wanted to give them a better life so i was gunna take them home with me (i live in the country) i was gunna release them by a pond with tons of plants and soil. But I googled it and it says it's bad for the environment to release or relocate snails?? I didn't know that until after. the thing is I've only had them for 2 days is it still bad to release them to a better place? I didn't wanna fuck up the environment by relocating them so i just bought a whole tank and decided to keep them but then I realized they mass breed. i realized I might have to kill some. I can't do it I will not be able to kill any. I already have a whole set up I spent 40$. I don't really know what to do with them after realizing this information. my question is what if they do have babies what do I do?? because I refuse to kill any and I don't think I'm allowed to release them. hypothetically if I ever have to get rid of them what do I do without killing ?
@ExploringExotics
3 жыл бұрын
If theyre a specie of garden snails they will usually cull themselves. With the healthy babies you can try rehoming. Just make it clear to whoever you are rehoming to that they may be runts and that you dont cull. Dont charge for this since it is unethical to sell runts. You can also find them as eggs and freeze or crush the eggs. They will not feel it as eggs

@ExploringExotics

Make sure the potting mix is organic top soil. You can mix it with eco earth too so it has a better consistency :) For temps, room temp is good. I also lile my room cold so i have a small heat mat on my enclosure just in case. Put it on a thermostat (maddie smith has an excellent video on them and why theyre important) set the thermostat to room temp and it will keep it regulated for you :)

@ExploringExotics
3 жыл бұрын
@Lilliann sata its ok im happy to help :) How long they live depends on the species They shouldnt eat citrus, salt, grains, I would only give cucumbers as an occasional treat. Snails can get addicted and only eat that. Dont for get their protein weekly For cleaning, spot clean only for the most part. Snails rely on the beneficial bacteria for a healthy gut biome. Full changes are bad and can shock them. So if you do changes then do 1/3rd at most. Do turn the soil though! Ofcourse if there is something harmful in your soil, you should do a full change

Mine dont lay eggs too often without a partner. You definitely need to give some cuttle bone. Im unsure or the concrete thing but cuttle has a lot of calcium, they can self regulate on it, and its cheap and clean

Hi there! I'm Ryan and I'm interested in buying an African Land snail but I'm allergic to soil of any kind, I was wondering if a fake grass carpet for reptiles would still be fine for them instead of soil? (I would keep it humid and spray it daily to keep a nice humidity in the enclosure).

I’ve kept garden snails since I was 5 and I’m 14 right now. They are right about the euthanasia when snails get sick. The most painless way to kill a snail is to place it on the ground outside and slam down a big rock. It’s difficult and emotional but u gotta do what you gotta do.
