MLM distributors are insults to trained professionals.......YASSSSSSSSSS QUEEN SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS. To me this is a point that is not covered as much in the anti MLM community. As a woman business owner I have to deal with men dismissing me as another mlm hun when I actually have a master's degree in my field. Because this when people ask me what I do I never say "I own my own business." I say instead "I started a music school" because these huns have taken away legitimacy from women who are actually qualified! *Deep breath* rant over. Thank you for covering this.
@AaaaNinja

Oh shit I didn't even realize that. Yeah, but on the flip side, how often do people actually say, "I own my own business"? I don't feel that I've actually learned anything. I can't respond to that. I don't know what it means. I can't say that it's restricted to MLMs, financial Gurus who sell get-rich-quick money schemes call themselves business owners too. Drop shipping, pickup artists, crypto, and sales funnels. Those are all things that come to mind when I hear "I own my own business."

I just stumbled across a video by Jordan and McKay about how MLMs have roots in Mormonism, and oh it explains so much about the fact that this is a women's thing to do from home, focusing on weight loss, beauty (Mormon goals) and household items, and the predatory, exploitative practices. These hosts grew up Mormon themselves and this was eye-opening, starting with the tithe (giving 10% of what you make). It's a distortion of church teaching and LDS has addressed "affinity fraud" as something that can get you excommunicated but the similarities remain: these schemes borrow language and concepts from religious organization and thus it resembles a cult.

Thank you for making this video. I grew up in a small town, and an MLM came to our town by the son of a rich guy. He basically recruited all of our town. In about a year, HIM AND only HIM was able to retire and move to the beach. One person scammed the entire town and there was nothing to be done. What you said is right, they attack people who are vulnerable. Back then, there was no KZitem, so feel happy knowing that what you're doing will maybe help someone who was considering an MLM to stop. I feel sad because during the pandemic I have seen so many friends join MLM's and I wish I could tell them the damage they do. If I get recruited, I'll just send them to here :D

Oh my goodness! The whole town, that’s crazy! Thank you for sharing your experience ❤️ I’ve also seen lots of people I know get involved in MLMs due to the pandemic. It’s really unfortunate that these businesses are trying to capitalize on the financial vulnerability of people who have lost their jobs... all so that the people at the top can continue to make money themselves.

6 years ago I almost fell for the Beachbody one. I was doing all there workouts because I loved them and still do. then I started getting the messages about selling shakeology and other various things. when I looked into it something just didn't feel right so I didn't enter myself into it. All of a sudden a friend I had in high school who I hadn't heard from in awhile messaged me on Facebook. we started chatting and I thought it was just to catch up but then she went into the whole sales pitch about Beachbody. I told her no thanks and continued talking to her as a friend but every conversation turned into a sales pitch. I eventually had to block her because she would message me 3, 4 times a week about it no matter how many times I told her no and to stop asking me. its crazy I lost a friendship over this. hopefully she is no longer doing it.
@HannahAlonzo

Oh my goodness! I have also done Beachbody workouts in the past and liked them, but never joined as a “coach”. Unfortunately, what you’re describing is such a common occurrence 😩 Old friends or acquaintances sending messages that always turn into a sales pitch. Good for you for declining and thank you for sharing! ❤️

Lol I remember as a kid I wanted Hip Hop Abs so badly! I had a friend who bought P90X (I think that's what it's called?) And other Shaun T workouts and we would do them in her basement. If you're in to cardio based workouts, the products aren't bad at all! But I remember being in uni and I can't remember how I met this person, but she was trying so hard to get me to sell Beach Body. I could barely afford a gym membership (thankfully my university had one), let alone a personal trainer. But she would say that it's perfect for me because it's a "one-time purchase" and I can work out from my apartment. If I became a seller, she would be my "coach" and I would become my own coach and coach and help others as well. I was intrigued because I barely had any money and was borderline desperate to find another income. And being a busy uni student, i thought the lifestyle they were pitching was perfect. But something just never sat right with it, so I declined. The "coach" was so aggressive and pushy about having me sign up, even though I had told her I was interested, but needed more time to afford the starter pack. Now, knowing what I know about MLMs, it seems very predatory to me to trap people so young and potentially desperate for money, into something like this when they have no idea about how these organizations work.

I am new to the conversation of MLM. But it goes back many many years. Tupperware, Avon are the two oldest ones I can think of. Bored housewife's or women needing to make some money they could call their own as far back as the 1950s. You had to buy your own catalogs, samples and so much more.

Just found you and am loving your content (also told a snippet of my story on another video). So true @ selling products internally and to themselves. Companies say they put a cap on how much reps can purchase off their own site with their own credit card etc, but this is a load of garbage. Many times I've seen high-ups 'support each other' and 'push each other to the top' by buying off each other's sites and, even worse, buying the required amount of product each month, turning it into 'samples' and giving it away as team prizes/incentives and writing it off as a business expense. It makes me so angry that how the high-ups run their "business", and how they train their minions to run their "businesses", are completely different.

I've been watching your other videos about antimlm for 3 months, religiously. But I never ran across this one. Glad to have found it. Here's one fact you may not have realized. Those FREE "luxury cars" not only have huge price tags and loans, but they also have exorbitant costs for the yearly maintenance and repairs. My son owns an Audi which he bought for a fantastic price from a kind family member. The repairs and tune ups are ridiculous! (By the way, he loves his car and still thinks it was a bargain so no worries on that account) These added costs are unseen when an "mlm hun" signs up for her FREE CAR. Imagine her surprise when a regular brake job which should cost $400 now costs her $1400 because the mechanic is required to use magical, gold plated rotors on her FREE Plexus Lexus.

About 10 years I got an up-close look at a very intelligent person with an advanced degree working towards licensure get absolutely sucked into an MLM. She was coming off a rough divorce, new life after endless schooling, and was ripe for the monstrosity that is that MLM. I believe she finally "got out" but I'm not sure if it was seeing reality or found a new relationship with someone whose lifestyle was sorta the opposite of that MLM and she chose love instead. :-)

When I was in my mid-twenties, I had just gotten engaged and was looking for a way to earn extra cash for the wedding. My soon to be mother-in-law had just joined an MLM and was trying to get me to join, too. I didn't know what to do because I didn't want to be rude, but didn't know if I could sell stuff as a job. Thankfully my boss at the time encouraged me to find an ACTUAL part-time job rather than try to sell crap to strangers. I'm forever grateful. Thankfully, my mother-in-law never pushed the products on me, and eventually (after about a decade) left the company.

The first video of yours I saw was one of your MLM horror stories video. And then I watched whatever was recommended by KZitem. My first thought was I was never in an MLM and never encountered a “Hun” Then I started thinking of my best friend who used to sell Avon, Pampered Chef, Lula Roe, Scentsy and another candle one, and one that sold fancy bags. She was and continues to be my best friend, but when she tried to get me to go to a party I always said NO Parties where you buy stuff always make me uncomfortable I don’t like to be pressured to buy stuff Then I started remembering my son’s paternal grandfather who tried to get me into PrimeAmerica (or something like that) but stopped when he realized I was pregnant and working as a CNA and had no money! Thankfully my best friend isn’t in any MLMs currently I’m just thankful I didn’t get talked into doing any of that myself I can’t stand being told what to do , so if someone was on my case about not working hard enough, I’d just get out of it anyway! Anyway, I’m enjoying your videos and love to see you throughout the years and love seeing your kitties! Keep up the good work! 😊

I hate MLM so much. I could not believe I got into that trap and lost 400$. My friend made me sign up and eventually it ruined our friendship as well. They started to force me to ask my other friends and family to join and sign up. It felt very shady. The only solace I have is that, I stopped at only 400$ loss. Never join WFG or any other financial MLMs. Leave that to experts and licensed professionals. I am a healthcare professional and I have no knowledge of the finance. I felt like this is not for me and I cant do this to anyone out there and advise them for their financial. It ends with me and I left.

I been taken advantage of by those hunbots. They are indeed predatory with their slick words. I left one MLM company in major debt and kept my ears perked to stay clear of other MLM companies. Thinking I was being absolutely brilliant, I asked another hunbot if her company was MLM and she said no. So I was relieved and signed up and enjoyed their products but eventually realised they WERE MLM. Oh, shit. Got recruited to a makeup company, I thought I was smarter and asked tough questions like taxes, method of selling, business paperwork, this hunbot explained they were duo marketing and that I didn’t have to worry about downlines. I quickly realised it’s that same MLM style business model. Then I stopped signing up to anything and only went to these demonstration parties but was pressured to buy items in a show of support to the hunbot who either was hosting, or the person who took me there. One lady had me in tears to get me to purchase from her. My point of my story is that these hunbots know how to manipulate you into supporting them - and only them - so that they can get sales.

Wow I can't believe I was part of an MLM during high school, many many years ago - in my country this term is not widely known, so not many people know this kind of information. Fortunately, my upline was not predatory, but very kind to me and she never pressured me to sell/recruit or something like that. To be honest, it wasn't that bad, because I would buy makeup products at a smaller price and my colleagues would buy as well and this would get me extra discount. At the same time, my colleague was a rep for Avon and I would buy from her and she would buy from me (I was a rep for Oriflame), without even thinking about MLM tactics.

Thank you for doing all the research so I don’t have to and for making this video so informative and interesting! MLMs are just so appealing! (Obviously, part of the problem) so thanks again!

My friend pointed out that technically as independent contractors they are business owners, but not in the sense they think they are. Their business is being a salesmen or a professional lead chaser I guess?

"how can you go sit on a beach relaxing knowing you got there on the backs of other people" You can't. You have to keep cold messaging, posting on social media, get ready for the next brainwash session during "vacation" No relaxing EVER hahaha

Have you seen "On Becoming a God in Central Florida"? It stars Kirsten Dunst, and the backdrop of this satiric Crave series is an MLM company. They are totally predatory and they show how desperate people are to change their lives and live the "American Dream." I think you'd enjoy it. (You even look a little like Kirsten.)

I have heard of it!! I think I would love it but I think when I looked it up, I wasn’t signed up for whichever streaming service it goes through. I will look into it again!
