There's a reason why you don't see a lot of covers of Ariel's. To do the song justice, even in your own voice, you have to be able to hit certain vocal range that he just can't reach. I could see the Cranberries doing an awesome cover of Ariel's that sounded like them but also did Justice to the song. I actually think MGK would be onto something if he could just actually lean into the “poser / sellout” aesthetic. Because nothing is more actually punk than doing something that always gets criticized by the scene and not giving a fuck. But MGK on his songs always complains about it, so he doesn’t really live the “not giving a fuck” attitude that would actually work decently

I think he’s trying. That’s why he renamed his album “Mainstream Sellout”. That’s what that song on the album was for. That’s why he ended that song with a “FUCK THAT, DUDE!” I don’t think he knows how though. I think if he really wants to drive that point home, he should fill up an entire album with “emo girls” and then sit back and admire the backlash.

She was 16. "Young teenage girl" is 13, 14. He was 22. 16 year olds have been supermodels in the past, and people are supposed to say that the supermodels aren't hot? When I was growing up, we had some truly whack as shit like Brooke Shields naked in Pretty Baby at TWELVE. Also, for funsies, the age of consent in Michigan is 16, based on a quick google search. Society didn't become as unaccepting of relationships like that until the last 15, 20 years. And the laws are still sitting out there, the same as they've been for years. MGK could have slept with Eminem's daughter and not even gotten in trouble legally.
@devonmunn5728

@@eboethrasher 16 is young. A teenager is a child. An older child sure but a child nonetheless. Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's ok. Young girls have had and still have a history of being sexualized due to a societal fixation on youth. 13 or 16 it's still fucked up

Just being real for a second, I hope the person behind MGK (Colson Baker) actually can get the help he desperately needs. We don't need another headline that another artist is dead. It seems in his albums and interviews you can hear and see the pain but he may feel he's too far gone to want to change so he acts the way he does anyway? I also agree he doesn't know how to handle situations either. I also feel he doesn't really know who he is but I feel like that plays into a bigger conversation about mental health. Also if I could give the man a hug and say it'll be alright and he can do this for his loved ones, I absolutely would. I have had friends commit suicide and went into self loathing and it's not fun at all. I understand the character MGK Is polarizing and people will clown him all they want but I just want the man to be alright and hopefully somewhere down the road he'll admit to his mistakes and shortcomings and will be the better person for it.

I'm not one who has an issue of musicians changing genres depending on how they actually do it. My issue with MGK is how plastic he became especially since his current pop punk phase. It's like he's trying his damnest to mimic Kurt Cobain's presence with a dab of Lil Peep's aesthetic. Not only that, but his pop punk music itself is just Blink-182 but with Tom Delonge inhaling argon instead. He's a walking stereotype (including being a creep towards underage girls). Him supposedly bringing pop punk (or punk in general) back on the map is all for the wrong reasons. That, and his beefs with both Eminem and Corey Taylor are downright pitiful, especially the case with the latter. Sure, Corey's vague comment reeked boomer energy, but dude, you had that comment he made live in your head rent free for about seven months, and then tried to lie about a collaboration that ended up not happening anyway. That’s pretty much why punk rock purists dislike pop punk and (I’m pretty sure) despise this pop punk revival stuff on a different level. As a fan of the more classic pop punk as well as original punk from the 70s and 80s, I still respect their opinions.

Yeah I got to say you hit ten Nails on Machine Gun Kelly's head. As a 44 year-old man who had his musical renaissance during the 90s with bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and Alice in Chains and whatnot it is so hard for me to get on board with Machine Gun Kelly. I haven't even hardly heard any of his songs but I honestly feel like I don't need to. One of the best experiences of my life was a Slipknot concert and Eminem is by far one of my favorite artists. Just the fact that this guy who I haven't heard a song by can talk so much smack about two other artists that I've heard every song by is amazing. I have so many Eminem and Slipknot songs memorized. The only song by Machine Gun Kelly I really know is Rap Devil and that's only because he's singing about Eminem LOL

I remember first hearing about MGK back when he was a white rapper who was fairly well-regarded. A lot of my friends around 2017-18 would tell me about how they listened to Machine Gun Kelly. Fast forward to today and he's now one of the most hated musicians. For me personally, it's not really his persona and behavior that annoys me (I mean, how many rockstars have we seen that act just like him), it's more the fact that he hasn't got much to show for it. He's a terrible singer and his musical abilities are limited at best, and he makes up for it by having more experienced artists like Travis Barker and a bunch of others as frequent appearances on his tracks. I'm glad the pop punk genre is back, but did MGK really have to be the one to revive it? Another thing is that he has his own personal problems that need to be sorted out. Recently, it seems like his personal life often gets more attention than his music. He kind of reminds me of Kanye West in that respect. I think he needs to take a good look at himself and learn how to be more mature. Right now, he seems to still be a teenager stuck in his "emo" phase, singing about bad relationships and the like. If he grows up, so will my respect for him.

@Elite Sports Talk I always thought he sounded much better as a rapper than as a pop punk singer. Maybe I'm old school, but pop punk is a genre that I've always associated with higher pitched vocals, and with his voice being so deep, the way he sings just sounds wrong to me.

for me, im a massive fan of the guy. but I ain't saying he's perfect. what he said about teenage girls is disturbing and he is quite immature. but as an artist I think he's great. Hotel Diablo i think is incredible, I love Tickets to my Downfall and I really enjoy Mainstream Sellout. admittedly some of the covers and emo girl aren't the best. but with the comments that he made, it was over a decade ago. for me, thats enough time to forgive. and apart from a few covers and emo girl, the guy makes great art. but everyone is entitled to their own opinion

As a fan of Kelly's music, the only thing that's irritating about him is his behavior and not holding himself accountable. He actually has some decent music if you check out some of his previous work in his discography with projects such as Black Flag and General Admission which in my opinion are his best pieces of music back when he was rapping. Now look at him, he's trying too hard to fit into this persona which is horrendous. This is not the Chuck Taylor wearing, laid back, fast rapping Machine Gun Kelly I discovered years ago. He's got alot of growing up to do

While personally I’m not a fan of him, I will say that I respect his work ethic to an extent. Maybe he’s not the most talented, but I do honestly think he’s trying his hardest. And at times when he’s not losing himself in his self righteous rock savior persona, or being absolutely cringe at times, he can be occasionally charming. I think the main reason he got big is because he is a hot white dude who started in the rap scene, where there’s still a lot of white people who will only listen to other white people. He’s got a couple of bangers like Forget Me Too, but for the most part his music just isn’t for me. At this point his relationship with his hot fiancé is more notable than his music, which says a lot. The relationship can be more cringe than his songs at times, but it’s still infinitely more funny; Megan Fox’s Instagram captions get me lmao.

He is richer and more successful than 90% of the worlds population off of something he takes passion in and you guys are hating That simply shows that you are not successful in your passion find your lane and learn to stay in it, because the majority of you are extremely poor, broke. Passionless have no hobbies have no girlfriend, have no successful relationship with your children or anything. It is very hilarious to see videos like this come up on my feed, when the person who is making them is significantly less successful, then the person the video is about learn your place and learn your lane machine gun Kelly is a genius in mini genres, his songwriting capabilities along with his delivery, and either genre is almost unmatched name, another artist who sings rock and roll good, has platinum rock and roll records and has platinum rap records, and has been part of the largest rap beef in history and is still successful. But why isn’t that level of credit given to Travis barker who arguably is the reason mgk got into genre that he did. The ofher artists are also riding on what MGK’s started and hopefully they’ll prove their porte tial too but but travis producing for then or beinging them into the scene isn’t a platform solid enough. @@_predebut_6733 I think you can argue that in terms of headline making, channelling the same kind of Rap Devil vibe into another genre is MGK’s doing but the look, the music (both lyrical and instrumental,) and all the rest probably is influenced and advised by Travis Barker and other people around MGK. It would be pretty short sighted to think that he’s come to this whole style/genre change all on his own. I would lay a lot more credit at Travis Barker’s door than I ever would MGK. It would be a beautiful romance if these things sprung up organically but to mainstream this genre again and have MGK be the face of it is coming more from the suits upstairs in record companies and your Travis Barkers of the world than it is MGK waking up one day and deciding to be gods gift to pop punk.
