00 - Intro
27 - 1. Some of the best superheroes don't have magical powers at all. Instead, they exemplify the best anyone can be as a normal person. This can allow an extraordinary person to be more relatable as opposed to magical beings.
31 - 2. The typical ‘origin story’ isn’t always needed. When adapting, think about if the origin is necessary, or already widely known. However, some origins are key to who the character is, and is key to their arc.
46 - 3. Get it in the can. As a writer or filmmaker, not having enough money for a film can make the project seem impossible. You have to persevere and just write it, film it, and you’ll come to find it is much better than sitting on a great idea.
49 - 4. When directing and acting, it can be difficult when you're a supporting actor, as you have to focus so much on the main characters. You must lead and use your performance to influence your directing and other actors.
41 - 5. When writing for children, remember, the main goal is to impart wisdom from one generation to the upcoming generation. Adults can enjoy these films, but ensure your main audience is gaining key insight, in their developing years.
41 - 6. While writing, you never truly know if the script is good. You can feel terrible, and be frustrated by the end of each draft but you must keep being persistent. It's not until you have it proofread by peers, and start production until you feel it coming together.
35 - 7. Try not to focus on social trends when writing. You’ll get a better script, and story, out of something personal and real that isn’t dumbed down for anyone.
33 - 8. When dealing with superheroes, and political issues, do it responsibly. You want to balance the reality of today, with escapist media. Subtly insert the themes on, don't dwell on them as much as the superhero fantasy that the audience is looking for.
50 - 9. When using, or animating animals, be careful to not make them uncanny by making them appear too much like humans. Allow voice, emotion and motivation to convey performance and have the audience connect with them.
35 - 10. Try to watch directors, before you become one. While you can jump straight into the profession, it’s always best to see the best at work, and to emulate the directors you respect.
