This is actually upsetting. To see that in one place a society there pretty much gives big issue about their looks. And instead of a gift for education, they spend their money to changing their natural look in which they are really born that way. I wish in the future not all of us will live this way, society will fall tbh. Education is better than fixing your looks because you'll eventually get old and that money you spent in your face will disappear one day.

colorism is not only an issue in korea it is present almost everywhere in asia and the middle east .. I'm dark my skin is the same color as cappuccino or moka and I've always received comments about it .. in my culture people with a darker skin tone are never ever ever called pretty and it would be funny and sad if we dare to say that we are .. we have a saying " she's light skinned enough is said. she's dark keep describing her " which means that if someone posses a lighter skin tone than that it self is an assurance of their beauty .. when people want to be nice to me and compliment me they sometimes lie and say that I'm " white" .. I usually reply with I'm not " white" but I do agree that I'm pretty which they usually take as a sign of me hating myself and try to convince me that my skin tone is fine -__- .. as a teenage I seeked a lighter skin color and used many creams and chemical mixes .. but thank god I've grown to love and accept myself as I am and I don't wish to change a thing about myself even the things I hate like my gummy smile and my under eye circles they are part of who I am and I love me..
@Lonelyeco

And you know, I read up that dark skin use to be what was pretty until some emperor took over there and invited Europeans to trade with them. Suddenly 'white' meant you were beautiful and rich. But that is simply not true. Me myself, I love people who look different. Each hue, each definition makes a person unique and beautiful in my eyes. I hope you instill in younger ones you come by, that people do not determine your beauty and neither does your physical appearance. It's you and the context of your character. Also, God is the one who ultimately matters when it comes to your worth, and he does not determine it like man does. Stay blessed.

Unlike in the western countries whos starting to look like an alien with over plumed lips, eyebrows raised as high as Mt. Everest, skin extremely stretched like a rubber band, butts and boobs that can almost pass as car tires. Like if i rate the plastic surgeons i give A+ to Korean doctors. I hope people who have watched this video don't miss understand about us because of this. As a Korean I surely can say this video makes the facts exaggerated too much. Yes, we do use the cosmetic products to make our skin brighter and prevent wrinkles , but not to have whiter skin and not to avoid racism. The reason why we use them is just for our satisfaction. There were lots of racists in the past decades ago, but now just a few are remained. I guess you know why. Lastly, there are some people who got plastic surgeries, but not that so many like this video is telling you. People who have never got any plastic surgeries exist far more than opposite.

Well most Asian countries have white skin as beauty standard. One may say it's crazy, but to be fair, as someone from that culture, I think most Asian features just look better when the skin is fairer. I love tan and brown skin, but I don't look good in that. You need defined features to look good darker tone, while Asians mostly have soft features.

I love Korean beauty products especially makeup. I'm very, very pale and go to great lengths to maintain it, most powders here make me look orange even the lightest color makes me look orange but now I order one from Korea and my god it's good. I get to wear powder and still be ghostly white. Although I did once order a face mask from the same company only to find it had skin bleach in it, there's such a thing as too far.

i gotta say about the snail thing though.. it actually works on skin repairing. i've been using a snail cream from **of course** south korea and it has helped me with my post-acne hyperpigmentation. it also helps acne to heal faster

this is so sickening. The beauty industry has changed so dramatically that used to be about adding a little bit to accentuate your natural beauty and now it's all about changing who you are completely and making you feel like crap if you don't have a face full of makeup and highlighter and contouring.

Welp the culture here in Asia is very much different than the culture at the West. Our parents tries to provide us with the best future that we can have and we also realise that such endeavours are very much required in order to ensure that we can compete with other people in our country and ensure our survivability in the future.

they have their own idea of beauty i guess that the rest of the world does not agree on. like Americans like tan skin but Koreans prefer pale skin. and Indians prefer darker skin tones and such. it all depends where you're from I guess.

For those who are calling Korea racist for hating people with dark skin, I think they might be exaggerating about it... I asked my friend about it (she is Korean and travelled to Korea) and she said that if you are dark skinned no one really cares. Especially if you are obviously a foreigner. But even if no one really points it out. Think about it in comparison to America. America likes tan skin but many people here have light skin and it's pretty normal, I mean I don't see anyone going around on the streets asking why someone is so pale and telling them they need to get more tan. No one in America walks up to someone and says, "you're ugly because you have pale skin" YEA NO ONE DOES THAT OK. If Korea is racist for liking pale skin then America is racist for liking tan skin. But neither are racist because it's JUST a beauty standard, not a law that everyone has to follow. It's not like everyone suddenly hates you if u don't fit the beauty standard or something.

Saying it's dangerous in Korea to show women from a very young age that they aren't good enough, buuuh. This NEVER happens in the west, nooo :D Every day, in TV, Radio, Magaznes, everywhere we look they tell us how to look prettier and indirectly that we aren't good enough. Not only in Korea.

I have lots of Asian friends and the beauty standards explained here can be seen outside of Korea too. Adnin Hanan Don't be afraid. These things in this video are true, yes. But just like everywhere else people in Korea like many kinds of beauties. Even though the majority likes fair skinned petite dolly like girls but of course not everyone's into it.
