#1. I once shared with the class translator (a Bible class full of middle aged people) about an online shop where I bought most of my fountain pens. This shop sells cheap yet high quality Chinese fountain pens for students. Most of customers are either parents of elementary students (in Vietnam, elementary students are obligated to learn fountain pen writing in cursive), or fountain pen hobbyist. When she bought like ten fountain pens for her nephews/ nieces and brought them to class, every other students grew curious. Now each of them has at least one fountain pen.

@TweakMDS
3 жыл бұрын
So many of these are painfully true... But the most obvious one for me is sometimes writing for the sake of writing! I usually hold one dedicated A5 notebook to just write short sentences, quotes and currently inked lists. Periodically I just write some "one page reviews" where I spill my thoughts about how a pen, ink or nib behaves. Since this is my personal booklet, I can really praise their perfection, or flat out mention something sucks! I tend to write these back to front. Not sure why, but it's become a habit. And on the subject of customization, I'm a sucker for cursive italic nibs. I have around 8 pens with different cursive italic nibs (and around 5 more with stubs). The best one right now is using a Bock medium cursive italic grind by Pablo from fpnibs. I can get REALLY excited by the concept of having pen, nib, ink and paper perfection. To me a grail pen isn't necessarily a $700 gold nib pen, but it's that rare occasion when pen, (custom) nib and ink match so well it feels like nothing will ever be able to beat it. For people wanting to try their hand at cursive italic, Jetpens has some nice options with an out-of-the-box cursive italic nib, like the Pilot Metropolitan with the CM nib. It doesn't really feel the same as a custom grind Jowo, Bock or Pelikan medium nib, but highly recommended to check out if this is something you like!

Before I admit my Grail pen folly, I got to ask, what is that pen case you are showing that is holding fountain pens, swabs & syringe? My EDC is 4 pens (1 Lamy, 2 Kaweco & 1 TWSBI ECO) and I need a better case than the Lihit Labs Mobile Pouch. My phone out grew it so I tried to repurpose it, but there's no hard sided protection for fountain pens. I do have a grail pen, it is not the ridiculous the Aurora Diamante Fountain Pen for $1.3 million. The one I'd love but will never afford is the Pilot Vanishing Point Raden Galaxy Medium Nib for $561.50. My 2nd, which "could be affordable", but still is a slim chance is the Kaweco Lilliput Fireblue Medium Nib for $162.00. I sent "Santa" a link to not only my JetPens wish lists but for a Kaweco AL Sport LW Medium Nib Vibrant Violet for $84. There's a slim to fair chance that I'll get that pen, if not, Santa better be smart enough to make sure there are other JetPens packages under the tree! Until then, I'll just keep using my current favorite, the 2016 Limited Edition Lamy Safari Dark Lilac. BTW, I answered yes to all 10 questions!

Fountain pens are considerably more expensive than other common pens, even in countries where economically priced fountain pens are commonly sold because elementary students must learn to write with fountain pens. A fountain pen for children could be twice to ten times more (10k VND - 50k VND) in price than a regular ballpoint/ gel pen (3 -10k VND) Fountain pens for children could still cost slightly less than a Pentel engergel pen in Vietnam (40k -50k VND). The high quality ones/ imported brands for executives, calligraphy, status and business people may cost a lot, ranging from as little as 100k VND to a few millions VND. Don't be fooled by many zeros in VND though. 1 USD is about 23000 VND.

ok, so: 1: I do it too (even if in my class nobody cares about fountain pens) 2: I would like to, but in my zone nobody cares about fountain pens 3 sometimes 4: I'm 13, so I can't have the best collection, but I think I have a pretty good one 5: again, I'm 13 so I can't have a pilot vanishing point now 6: I have a fine and a medium and I'm trying to save money to buy a super fine nib pen 7: I have some types of cartridges and one bottle, but I'm going to expand my collection when I can 8: YES OH MY GOD! I'm also left handed so I always have some ink in my hand 9: definitely. 10: I don't have one :/ and that's all, bye from Italy :)

You know, you don't need a GLASS dip pen. Any dip pen works fine for that purpose. I have a really cheap set I use. Sometimes I even use it with my Platinum tip. It's from my 1st cheap fountain pen (from Daiso) that no longer works and it fits well in the dip pen handle. But I would still recommend the Platinum Preppy to beginners. It's my favorite ever and it is on the cheaper side (under $10). Why give a beginner a fountain pen you can't refill when refilling is one of the main points?

As a newbie fountain pen user, I also have a syringe nearby in case I need to clean or refill my fountain pens. However, I just attach a thin plastic tube to the syringe tube instead of needles-other people might become suspicious if they see me holding a blunt hospital syringe needle.😅🖋️

You missed a biggie: having multiple pen cases; extra points if you started with the elastic band type case as pictured at the beginning of this video but have since graduated to the individual compartment type. And you’re really an addict if your pen case(s) are hard leather and cost more than the pens you bought when you first started buying fountain pens! Another biggie; you have multiple pens that were once grail pens but you now describe as “great”, “good”, or “one of the 1st pens I bought”

Basically you're not my friend if you don't understand the need for a fine writing implement with an exquisite hue of ink. My cousin told me he doesn't even like writing, he types everything. He's dead to me.

I'm more of a "(BallPoint / Gel / RollerBall) Pens & Lead Pencil" person. Fountain Pens are that entire line that I don't care to cross. Plenty of good Pens & Lead Pencils out there to meet my needs =D

This can be dangerous. That’s how I rationalized $126 for a Lamy 2000. Because it looks inconspicuous, like a black Flair marker.

I have a grail pen, I purchase it, then 3 more grail pens pop-up as necessary to possess. So, I guess I have too many pen desires for it to be a grail pen. It’s never ending. And I am much, much worse with ink. Apparently I am attempting to purchase every color, plus every new effect in every brand from every country on the planet... I love color & “writing ink” (although I’ve stuck with mostly fountain pen ink) is one way to have many colors easily on hand. Then there is paper, sigh... I’m fairly new to the hobby, so I still have much to learn.... In reality, this is the first hobby I’ve ever had in my life...
