I live in the land of eternal summer (Maui) so this was an important topic for me! My solution to the athletic wear (walking my dog, stroll on the beach, gardening in the front yard etc) is athletic skirts with built in undershorts. I found a just above the knee length is most flattering and they come in many colors and patterns. Yes, they are polyester but paired with a simple cotton tee or tank and sandals they look quite pretty and unlike cotton or linen they don’t require ironing.

💐 Marie-Ange: living in 😎 LA we can battle scorching high heat, but thankfully it's usually more of a desert 🏜 dry heat in the Valley. The few times we get hit with heat & high humidity💦 is absolutely painful. 🤣Can't understand how folks in the South & tropical climates deal with that double whammy. 😉Do love modern athleisure fabrics bcos they have such incredible 🥵 moisture wicking💧properties nowadays. This change of life has only made me more sensitive to heat🌡. Plus, as an hourglass, I like tops that softly & lightly drape or are more gently body-conturing. Get much more wear out of short sleeves and sleeveless items. 😁 Big fan of skorts. 🤫The ones that appear completely as skirts〰️with the shorts concealed under too. I'll wear dresses for more special occasions, and mostly gravitate toward the comfort & airiness of regular skirts over pants year round too. 😊For some reason, there are poly-blends that are 💯% fine that don't create any sort of discomfort. 😓 Struggle with some natural fabrics like silk & heavier cotton. Most denim is too thick, structured, & makes me feel utterly miserable. Chinos in heavy cotton twill is also repugnant. Own traditional trousers, but haven't worn 'em for the last two years. Although as a rule, do prefer pants that are soft, light like a parachute fabric, paper thin cotton, or some sort of rayon. 😃Do own a few things in linen, but I don't choose them as often. Most long sleeve tops are used strictly for UV protection or when it chills (late Fall, Winter, early Spring). Also own a few lined wool, tweed, & woven material, but they only get a few weeks play at most every year. 💚 Bridget from Cali ☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

I agree with you on most of what you're saying. I'm English and 75 years old but don't want to dress my age or pretend I'm still 18 either. I'm a sewist and one of the banes of our life is patterns that don't match at the seams. It immediately looks very amateurish sewing so when we see it on ready to wear clothes we're aghast. Talking of patterns, one of my pet hates is African waxed cotton fabric. I think African women look stunning in the bright colours and bold patterns but on a pale white skin? I don't think so. I too wouldn't wear those weird clumpy shoes but neither would I wear strappy sandals as my feet definitely shouldn't be on display! I can't wear even a low heel due to back and hip pain and never wear skirts or dresses so in the summer I tend to wear trainers (not the designer variety). At the moment I've got navy, white and a couple of colours to go with the colours I wear in tops. As for excessive amounts of frills well they're usually a little overwhelming aren't they? The beauty of making your own clothes is you don't have to follow a pattern exactly. So I don't mind one frill, but all things in moderation, n'est-ce pas?

Yes, people ARE showing up in not only PJ bottoms, but the full Monty right down to the fuzzy slippers. Also, bathing suits with maybe a sheer cover up and one lady just out cold had a beach towel wrapped around her in the grocery store! So many awful trends abound, that when you see someone dressed casually but stylishly, they really stand out.

Love the suggestions! Especially the fitted separate+loose separate. 🥰 One thing I noticed for myself as a Classic shape and Soft coloring is that low-contrast pieces work best. I had a blouse that had “my” colors in it, but for some reason never looked quite right. The problem? Too much contrast. The bold navy outlines of the floral, paired with a watermelon pink on a white background just was too distracting. It also explained why my broad white-and-navy striped shirts were not my favorites, while I reached for the narrow-striped ones often. Looking for lower-contrast tops has saved me time, money, and disappointment.

This was such a joyful video to watch - such fun! Thank you so much! I liked most of the picks but not a jumpsuit for me. I wore one once to a party (when I was a young woman). What a stressful experience when I had to go to the ladies room- whew! I cannot even imagine repeating that experience as an older woman with less time to meet my needs. That is what I always think about when I see jumpsuits.

When I want a very casual look on a hot day, I wear a classic tee shirt dress with Keds type trainers and either a small scarf around the neck or the preppy sweater over the shoulders look. If you have the sweater over the shoulders, then find yourself in an over air conditioned building, the sweater can be switched to the traditional way of covering the arms.

Love the video. Those shoes...ughh, the worst, followed by ragged jean shorts. I only wore structured shorts in my early 20s. Back then, Ralph Lauren made nice fabric shorts with pleats and loopholes for a nice belt. I never wore crop tops ever. I found at an early age that if I dressed well and used my finances for better clothes or designer wear on sale, I would attract better attention. My natural hourglass figure was highlighted, but I expressed myself with clothing styles that said behave, respect, lady versus girl or woman, serious, and I may not have been easily approachable. I am ok with not being easily approachable or revealing too much.

Bonsoir Marie-Anne, I agree 100 per cent with your evaluation of the worst summer styles. They don't look good on women of any age, especially those of us over 50 (0r 60). Patterns are especially tricky. I like the high contrast ones like navy and white gingham, or the pink shirt you showed. What I cannot understand is mixing patterns. It looks so clunky and un-stylish. Love your enthusiastic presentation! Thank you.

I absolutely love the blazer you are wearing here, Marie-Anne. It is the perfect colour, and the black trim is bold and chic. It is completely flattering on you. I must agree about mesh clothing. Mesh simply looks awful, and has no style at all. It is difficult to even put it to words! I also don’t like sweatpants. I do love bold, colourful prints, as well as some of the more chunky shoes, mainly in black, since they don’t appear too large then. I don’t much fancy them in pastels, because then they tend to look cheap. Of course it all depends upon each design or piece. She has small feet and they look alright on her. There is a lot of ‘70’s influenced fashion at the moment. I didn’t like much of it back then so I’m not embracing it now either. Also, bohemian isn’t my style either. One of those dresses reminds me of a dress I had when I was in high school. I bought the material and sewed it myself, for a dance. I spent the whole night trying to avoid another girl in the same fabric. I avoid prints now. I really don’t like it when manufacturers use a print for a dress and bring it out in blouses as well.

Your idea with balancing prints is very helpful. Im going to a museum today and I will wear trousers in black and white print with white tee and a white cotton shirt over it and black sandals. I think it will work well. Your tips are always helpful.

In a weak moment, I bought one of those floofy white dresses with the big sleeves. The body of it actually fits well, however those sleeves accentuate my already broad shoulders. I am thinking of altering the sleeves, with a little de-pouffing it will look quite nice.

@@MarieAnneLecoeur Yes, I am. I have broad shoulders and long arms, but short legs. If I wear dolman sleeves I look like a flying squirrel! 🤣

Hobbit feet! I love that description. I’ve been searching for simple, elegant shoes for months and just recently found a local store that imports lovely shoes from Spain and Germany. Much more chic. I do like wearing florals and frilly dresses so I sew my own. I can shape the dress properly and add just enough frill for interest but not so much to overwhelm me or make me look like it’s 1992 😆

I just happened on your channel and I like your style and advice. I’m turning 50 this year and need so much help. I live where it’s super hot in summer and I don’t know what to wear not to sweat to death.

As usual…half my wardrobe will be heading to the bin! Thank you for all your style tips. As an overly plump 66 year old, I need to learn to love trousers and frocks again. 🤨
