I just bought a new 2019 Bolt Raven. I like it. I'm going to leave it in stock condition. But I did put a passenger seat and passenger pegs on it today. I've been riding for over 50 years so loud pipes and modifications don't make sense anymore. I like going for a early Sunday morning ride without annoying the neighbors. Sunday at dawn is the best time to ride. Most people are still in bed so there isn't much traffic.

Nice vid man, read some of the comments and you can't please all eh? I'm based in UK and looked at the bolt (XV950) over here. It's a new bike using the original XV950, a few years old, hence not best performance...BUT quicker than the HD Iron!! I bought the HD street 750, a smaller/low bike (me 5' 8"), so suits me well. A cheap bike, but goes like the clappers. Currently modding bike, mirrors changed, exhaust upgraded for Vance n Hines, awesome sound! Seat currently in Germany behind rebuilt for comfort/looks. HD Street is contentious being a new HD design (not typical Hog) and will suit some and others will hate it.... But if you enjoy the ride and the look of your bike, then that's all the matters, ride safe mate!!

I upgraded the shocks on mine to the Yamaha performance shocks. Also changed out the seat to a mustang seat. That got rid of that gap plus made the ride even more comfortable. Also had mini apes put on it. If you think the tank is bad wait until you put a power commander and auto tune on it. I get 150 km the the gas light comes on. Looks good though.

Great and informative review! Pretty much sums up the things I've gathered from watching other reviews. But what makes this review stand out is that there's no blahblah and wind noise. I don't like those reviews where most of it drowns in noise form surroundings and stories about totally non related things. I'm about to try (and maybe buy) this thing soon, so thanks for the input!

1. wanna say - i was happy i found your vlog because bolt 2. i previously never ran across your channel because all search terms would never have directed me here before your made "10 things i hate .. star bolt" 3. didnt knew bolt exists in red - nice combination 4. keep the outro with the horn and giggling ;) 5. the size of the tank is the reason why im still not able to make my final decision on which bike to get. So its Nr. 1 on my top 10 list.

+tatoismus 1. Glad you're here! :) 2. You can thank AgentCox000 for nominating me to do it! I'm coming up on 2500 miles and will probably do a small review so if you're interested stick around! :) 3. I love it! The green camo is nice, the black with a red design is alright, but the red just really did it for me. 4. It's gonna stick around for sure. ;) 5. Of the 10 things it's really the only thing I would change. The other 9 are minor annoyances if anything. I usually get about 150 miles to the tank, which is alright. If you go on long rides it'll definitely be the main problem. I was originally looking at the Stryker, but I always came back to the Bolt in the end. No regrets. :)

Strange to complain about the styling theme of the mount you chose. The exposed frame between the tank and the seat is apart of the bar bones theme. The bone bare bones is the exposed skeleton or frame. Which also helps accentuate the size of the engine. It is a minimalist motorcycle. An engine, wheels and controls. Capacity wise you may think more range would be nice, however you will find that a such bare bones machine can be more exhausting than exhilarating on longer rides. That is a great bike to get you to and from your local hag outs. Enjoy. Oh, and nice mods. Tasty.

As far as the side mount goes its from "Pro factory" again on amazon. I don't know if i was just not attentive at the time, but i couldnt seem to find a spot that the bracket would fit properly on the left side. =/ I'll have another look and hell, might even bring it further up! I almost got the black/red accents! But when i saw the Red with black, I knew i had to pay a little homage to my fz09 and stay red. :) Glad you're enjoying the content and building yours! :D

And who decided it was a good idea to put the intake between the hot ass cylinder heads and above the exhaust? I would make an L pipe, bringing the air cleaner out in front of the bike, so it gets cool air 100% of the time. Would look pretty sweet, too. Also, would wrap the intake pipe in some kind of heat reflective tape.

the bolt is one of the cheapest bikes you can get. It's bare bones and basic. kinda retro. It's made to be customized. You should know what your getting when you buy it. I love the bike. I love the way it looks. (including the gap and the tank). It has plenty of power and is just easy to control and ride. I couldn't come up with 10 things I hate about it. The gap you refer to behind the tank is a style reminiscent of the chopper look which was the look they were going for to try to lure harley riders over to yamaha. Other then that, all of your complaints can be fixed or modified just like your exhaust/air cleaner was. The pipes/air box you added do look good! I can see a lot of possibilities with your bike and am a little jealous. (although I already have two bikes and I'm not sure I can justify a third) It's funny cause I like the gap behind the gas tank. If you look at some new Harley Sportsters they have that same look. Anyway have fun with your bike!

I also have the black meter, headlight bezels, black fork gaiters, the black mini fairing as well. currently installing the rear led lights and side mount license plate mount. Looks completely different. stock exhaust and intake were huge and quite ugly to be honest. didn't sound good either in my opinion but the new exhaust sounds legit. only thing about the new intake is that it leaks on your exhaust pipe for some reason.

+Ray Pena Just watched your review and I like that you covered the negatives over the positives (cause we all know the positives). Before i swapped the exhaust and intake I did find myself trying to avoid higher speeds, but the little boost of power from the swap (and hopefully soon the power commander properly installed) seems to have taken the worry away. Even with that though, most of my riding is in city as my commute doesnt call for the highway fortunately. The bike is definitely low, there's no denying that. I do worry about bumps and things which was new considering the FZ09 had a pretty high clearance. =P Glad you got the bike that makes you happy though! Off to watch your rocket impressions. :)

@ImpulsiveThrottle
8 жыл бұрын
In the 8 months i've had the Bolt i've only scraped a few times in turns. The lean angle isn't amaaaazing, but it's not like you can't lean at all. There are a few/several companies that make some great forward position setups that will increase the angle you can achieve, but that is a few hundredish bucks to get there.
@MrDickhead47
4 жыл бұрын
I live in Big Bear CA, very twisty. I scraped pretty bad a few times, once my foot caught. I just installed the ss customs forward controls but that really just makes it more comfortable. I have scared myself enough times to ease off in the canyons, as well as trail brake caus these turns tighten unexpectedly. I honestly have to let cars pass me sometimes. Lean angle is borderline bad. (You don’t want to go wide or low side in a blind curve). If you want to ride canyons just take it easy or get something more suited for that.

I had a power commander V installed and dynotuned by a shop. Ran for a few months without it though due to money. Ran well, but having the pcv installed i can tell the difference for sure.

I believe the gap between the seat and the tank is for a very good reason - so beer-bellied lard asses can fit on the bike without their gut pressed against the tank.

I test drove a used bolt the day I bought my Triumph and maybe it was just that bike but I hated it. Suspension travel was crap, throttle response was poor. only thing I liked was the way it looked. But anyways, nice video though.
@ImpulsiveThrottle
8 жыл бұрын
The stock Bolt isn't the greatest in throttle or suspension by a looooong shot, but the throttle response and everything else is much better now after the mods. Suspension is the only thing untouched unfortunately. And thanks man!

+Impulsive Throttle I was drawn to the Bolt because of the possibilities with it. at the end of the day I ended up with a bike I knew I could easily ride all day (6 hrs or so) in stock form knowing good and well it was going to get modified anyway. after all, motorcycles are basically meant for customizing. keep the shiny side up!

I have a 2014 Yamaha bolt R-Spec, and i freaking love it. but along with some things you pointed out, the tank could be bigger, but idk if it would look right. and the thing with the mirrors, i have the same problem. and that huge ass piece o plastic that hung off the back for the license plate. ew. and speaking of ew, the stock exhaust. god damn was that thing huge, and wimpy. and the stock intake is huge and annoying. and with the speedometer, i can not read it when im facing the sun. and the peg thing is fun. i have scraped my pegs almost off. the metal is almost gone, my pegs are almost rubber. But i love the boly way more than the 2011 sportster that i use to have.

I'm rollin the 2014 R spec with OD green tank love the bikes but hate the same issue. notice the az background I too no the pain of a balls hot seat in the summer while stuck on the 10 coming from the 202 west bound into the tunnel!!! +Gordon Seymour Don't let the title fool ya, I absolutely love this bike. :) I don't remember who started it exactly, but a motovlogger put out a video titled "10 things I hate about _(their bike)_" and challenged other people to do the same. AgentCox000 nominated me, so I had to come up with 10 things. To be honest, you can change the "hate" in the title to "find mildly annoying" or "dislike and will change" and it'd fit I've changed a few already and will change more in the future to better fit what I want!

Everything I've seen says it's a great beginner bike just wanna know what you really think.
@ImpulsiveThrottle

Hah! yeaaah that guy was incorrect. Bikes a 950 (942 when it comes down to the actual number). :) I'd say this is definitely a good bike for a beginner! (Check out the Bolt video done by BikeMe. I'll second that! this is my fourth bike, but I had not been on one in over twenty years when I bought this one. It's just so comfortable and easy to ride, it would make a great first bike. It's great for zipping around town. It just runs very smooth and is a joy to ride.
