When you were talking about the Staub Pan - I was wondering if you „broke it in“. Staub products are most probably cast iron and they work way better if you do the „oiling process“ before using it. (Really not sure about the right usage of words here in English - so please don’t judge guys 😅) 🤔 cast iron tends to take a long time to get hot for sure and then retain the heat longer on medium heat - so I would be on your side with the „nothing if you want to do something quick for yourself or three children 😅. This year I am more focused on using stuff up whilst not repurchasing. Otherwise I would have joined the no buying/drinking Alkohol. Enjoyed the video. 😊

I spent three days decluttering and I just took to the donation box 12 bags full of clothes that my family and I were not using at all, I have separated boxes of toys for charity and other items to sell. My home feels much more free and today I was able to sit down and enjoy. After this video I crossed out of my list of "wants" a few things because they are not "needs", at least not for a while. Thank you so much for your videos. Just one more question, where did you get those trousers from? I just don't tell people I listen to audio books instead of reading it. Or I tell them I don't have the time or patience to sit down and read. I can do chores around the house while listening. Sitting down feels like a luxury. No matter how you look at it I consider it reading, if you think about it in terms of, you are consuming and absorbing the information. How you consume and absorb is not relevant if you get value from it.

I always kind of thought it was cheating, too, but for non-fiction books especially, I pretty much never get through them if I'm doing the reading! It is so helpful being "forced" to press on to the end of a book I really do want to read (rather than feel guilty for yet another unfinished book) and I compensate for retention by skipping back here and there if I really need to let a new concept sink in. Also I can multitask and get things done while I read, so that is majorly satisfying! 😉

Going forward I’ve decided that I am not pre-buying kids clothes on sale until it’s closer to their birthday. There were plenty of times where I bought something on sale and guessed what I thought would be my grandchild’s size. When it came time to gift the clothes often I’d find that I guessed wrong and was left with clothes that didn’t fit them and/or clothes for the wrong season. This year I’m going wait to ask the parents what they need and get their correct sizes.

My nuclear family didn't drink. I never saw either mom or dad drink. I dated a guy from church who enjoyed margaritas at mexican restaurants so I tried them too. We stopped dating and I stopped mexican restaurants and margaritas. The man i married liked beer which i hated and didn't drink. I did try a sparkling wine, Asti Spumanti (sp?) and different snapps (sp?). When i got pregnant, I stopped any drinking and never started up again, that was 27 years ago. So i have saved thousands of dollars. Too bad I'm a sugar addict. Too many bags of chocolate & Butterfinger bars.

I really want to say “Thank you” for creating this kind of content. Yesterday I finally took a step forward and went through my TV station with lots of shelves and a little cupboard. Today I went through my “huge” closet and collected 2 huge bags that I will send to charity. And also 7 bags of things that need to be utilised. Even though I had decluttering about 1,5 years ago. But now I found so many things that I originally liked, but they weren’t used for years! I decided to finally let them go. I am very far away from being a minimalist, but it feels much easier and also feels like I have more things that I had before! But now only nice and suitable stuff is present in my room. It’s very reachable and enjoyable now. Maybe 1 day I will finally turn into a minimalist. Probably when these things will be destroyed I will simply not buy any replacement for them again. And that’s how I will only have needed things in my life ❤

"It's more about being grateful for what I have." LOVE THIS! This is where so many people have lost the plot. They forget to be grateful and how blessed they are sometimes. I'm not sure what it is I'm not buying this year! Probably kitchen gadgets, we're having ours remodeled this year and I don't need to pack up anything more than necessary. As far as your shoes--I don't have an issue with holes in anyone's shoes, but I will say that you do need to be careful wearing a pair of tennis shoes for too long. Most athletic shoes are only good for about 500 miles of movement and then the cushions start to break down. Also if the soles aren't wearing evenly due to walking habits. Once that starts, you can end up with back, hip, knee and a bunch of other issues. (My late father-in-law was a chiropractor and we all got the lecture about how important good footwear is!)

I was disheartened to hear Birkenstock doesn’t really fix or do returns. So I ticked them away for the “one day” when I found someone who could fix them. Unfortunately, when I thought I did they were fixed horribly. If you look at the midsole it looks like a kid went crazy with the superglue. I debated donating them, but who would want them now that they look ugly and fit MY feet? So I wear them. They are still comfy AND I feel better that I am making it work for me. Like us, they have a story. PS…coconut oil is not my friend either for my skin. As a former esthetician I tried to educate my clients that natural ingredients still require trial applications.

Hahaha I can TOTALLY relate to your story about wearing out your shoes and having toes like raptor claws - I love it! 😆 I've embraced my holey, worn out shoes because they're SO comfortable, they get me to where I'm going, and will continue wearing them until they're fully worn out ❤

Yes, please do show how to make sushi! I helped my sister make some with a sushi kit she got for Christmas and it sparked the idea that I could to it also. (We had no idea what we were doing, but it was so much fun and came out well!) Learning along with you would be so much fun!

Staub pan can be used to bake breads, slow cooking, soups etc. To make sure nothing sticks, it needs to be super hot, but that takes time like you said. And yay for sushi class with your bil. 🍣 🍱

I’ve been limping along with a very old kindle paperwhite for years now. Every so often it gets a bit glitchy but it usually bounces back as long as I don’t have too many books stored on it. I like to be able to adjust the text size and font (as my eyes age) and brightness for different books and reading conditions. But listening to audiobooks while walking or doing chores has doubled how much I read. I especially like audio for books involving different languages or words I have trouble pronouncing, or classic novels with really long sentences.

sushi rolls and kimbaps are relatively easy to make once you get the hang of it! One issue I face when I make them myself is that, I would need to prepare a few different ingredients for the rolls and I either end up with too many sushi rolls or leftover fillings. It's good if you're making a big batch for a party/picnic but I only cook for 2 so it becomes and issue. Sushi rolls also don't keep well because of the nori getting soggy. Restaurant sushi is something I don't think I can give up on since I usually get sashimi or nigiri. It's difficult for me to get fresh raw seafood that's "sashimi grade", it's either too expensive or not as good quality as the ones I get from restaurants. It's a splurge but I save it for special occasions. Wish you luck with the sushi making!

I have used my Corning ware cookware since 1973-ish, and inherited my mom's Revere ware stainless steel cookware when she passed away young, age 46, in 1976; neither sets make food stick, heat up quickly, and look brand new even after all these decades; only the Bakelite handles on the Revere ware have faded a little from the pure black when they were used since new in the early 1960s. I inherited a large seasoned cast iron skillet from my great aunt [1908-1996] but it is too heavy for me to lift abd move comfortably/safely.

Thanks for sharing some videos! I’ve watched all of your videos from the beginning and love the content you share with all of us. If I may share, I’ve had a cast iron pan for 10 years, it’s the best kitchen item we have. I love the versatility, you can also use it in the oven and no PFAS, that non-stick pans have. It stays warm for a while and doesn’t take long to heat up. I’ve minimized my kitchen to have items that have multiple uses. I truly recommend a cast iron.

I have a Calphalon, there’s also the lodge cast irons. The eggs don’t stick at all. It’s been seasoned so much that it’s naturally non-stick.

I'm a die hard cast iron fan, it's all I use now. But Lodge also has a great carbon steel pan if you want something similar but lighter in weight.
