I used to be a Guest service Supervisor for about 9 years and luckily mi contract was only 4 or 5 months and. everything you said si so trueeee but you miss something "the mafia" is when in a department there is a majority of one nationality and especially the ones in charge, they took advantage of their positions to give promotions, harassed staff, abuse and do whatever they want and the company pretends no to see it. Apart from that the traveling for free, the money, the opportunity to meet people from 65 different nationalities the bond you create with those people, the adrenaline is unforgettable. Missed those days sometimes but after all these years nothing compares to stay on land and live your life without pressure, stress, and at your own pace.

Recently finished a 3 year stint on cruise ships (pre-covid) as a very senior officer. I was one of the very few married guys who did not have a girlfriend on board:) Lets just say the moral standards on board aren't the best. There's 3 main categories, those who do it because they have to (for instance people from third world countries who've been cleaning rooms on board for 20 years, just to put their kids through uni), those who've made a career out of it and are very happy with the lifestyle and their on board "family", those (like me) who tried it and left because it didn't suit their lifestyle. A lot of people leave during their first stint and then there's others I spoke to who tried shore side jobs, but hated it and returned to sea. It's a weird place, either you love it or hate it:)

At first I thought you were a Dancer on ships. I was a Showband musician on a certain Cruise line and the Entertainment department was mostly English, American and Australian. Everyone in other departments thought we were the lucky ones cuz we worked mostly at night and had some guest Priveliges. I used to grab free pizza up on the Lido deck after my gig. And of course there was the Crew Bar!! I became immune to Hangovers 😂 I still miss it in some strange way and still want to go back out to sea, so I know what you mean about getting hooked on it. I met my wife on a ship, she was a crew member so I’m stuck on land now. LoL

As an old man, retired U.S. Marine (and married to the same wonderful woman for 35-years), I find quite a bit of 'life humor' in this video...because what you've just described is a mix of 'sea life' (been like this for hundreds, if not thousands of years), basic 'teen dating' (oh, my...he lied to me! imagine that), military deployment service (where are we going now? combined with 'hey, that food is inedible'...and 'they aren't treating us right')... Welcome to adulthood...it gets worse, until you figure it out and learn to live with it. Hey, at least no one is shooting at you for $800 a month!

Even tho that this might be someones exit from the great financial problem after the pandemic, this will be a very challenging times for crew. Will there be any shore leaves? How will the crew activities be organised on board with all the social distancing in place? There are many questions, but not so many answers.
