If I understood you right, you said it's good to draw cards even if you don't have the energy to play them. I don't see how that helps - doesn't it just mean you won't have the option to play that card if it makes sense the next round? Thanks!
@InaBeta
2 жыл бұрын
@@Travoid Like everything in this game, it depends. Ideally, you're using draw cards in the beginning of your turn to get to other things you want to play that turn (when you still have the energy to) Generally, drawing at the end of your turn is pretty fail, but if you look at your draw pile and see a bunch of garbage you just want to get past to get to your shuffle, then yeah you might want to even if you don't have energy left. My main point is that draw is an extremely powerful (maybe the most powerful) mechanic in this game and it's importance should not be understated. It has a variety of uses and when to utilize it will always depend run to run and turn to turn.

So glad I found this channel. I've played this game for a total of over 100 hours. 92 runs, with only 1 "victory". The victory came from a custom run where I basically gave myself as much advantage as possible. On average, I typically only make it to about halfway through the 2nd act, or die early on in Act 3. Only a few weeks ago I realized that you shouldn't take every single card reward. My decks would end up so bloated and the really good cards were rarely drawn during fights. The main thing I learned from this video is to not avoid the elite fights, and to be better at balancing regular fights with mystery rooms. Up until now, I basically avoided elites as much as possible, and if I were given a choice between a fight or a mystery room, I'd always hit that question mark hoping for a relic.

These are some good tips. You say in the pinned comment to give tips that we think you missed. I think that there are some higher level ideas that can earn small advantages that can turn a loss into a win. The first is that there are some relics such as nunchaku, ink bottle, and happy flower which will keep a counter between fights. It is generally good practice to set these up at the end of the fight when you can be a little more flexible with your card choices so that you can get their effects on the first turn (arguably the most important turn) of the next fight. Additionally, another concept that helped me was paying attention to when I used my draw cards. If you have 1 card in your draw pile, and you play a draw 2 card, this means that everything in your discard pile will go back into your draw pile. This means that all the cards in your hand are not getting shuffled into your deck meaning you will have to go all the way through your deck again in order to see it. For this reason, if you are in this situation and have a strong card that you want to play as often as possible, you should probably play it before the draw card.

As a Slay the Spire player who already spent more than 300 hours on different platforms on the game I can say that your guide was still very helpfull for me. On the one hand it is nice to know that most of my decissions in the game are somehow in line with your tips on the other hand the "practice things which you dont like" tip is something which I have to apply more in my playthroughs. After a period of time you just stick with the same 2-3 stratetgies. Which is dangerous and hinders you to climb up on ascension ranks. Well done!

I've played it a few times. The characters get more complex as they keep making them. Ironclad is real simple. Build up attack power and/or block, and just fight until you win. After that it gets a little trickier, and a little trickier, until you get to the Watcher, and people are still trying to figure her out.

I feel like all these "is x card good?" questions (which I asked my fair share too) are like asking "is Qe4 a good move?" in chess. It all depends on the position (however, it's such a central square that _in general_ it's likely not a good early game move)

Loved the video, and I have a few hours in the game before I watched this. I didn’t help to be honest but you did mention a few things that I have and have not done such as fighting many elites or using the relic that’s popular like the snake eye. I never use that and I usually skip the elites if I don’t have many powerful cards. This game can be quite annoying and as far as the card build goes I never thought about making it smaller, how small should I make it? Usually I have 35 to 45 cards by the time I beat the bosses or die…that too many? How small should it be per class? I ask cuz you didn’t say how big it should be per class.
@InaBeta
2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like there were, in fact, helpful things in here then! I didn't say how many you should have per class because that isn't a thing. The deck should have as few cards as it needs to work, but some decks can get by with being a bit thicker (i.e., over 30). Generally players should be very choosy about adding things to the deck (especially after act 1 when what your deck does well is usually pretty set) and any opportunity you can get to remove cards should be taken; there is always a least effective card in the deck.

I've just started playing this game and I thought I was getting really good at it. One problem I came across was my deck was getting too big and getting filled with crap cards. Then I watched your video and saw that you was not collecting cards that didn't add any value to your deck. I feel such a noob as I was collecting every card I could along the way lol thank you for the video

Beautiful video and wonderful guide. Love your approach to the game and all the advice. Even found a nugget or two that I'm going to try on my next play session. As for my preference, my favorite class is the Defect because orbs and powers are so much fun!!! Although i do much better with the good old Ironclad. The difference is that Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't force you to discard your hand every turn. In this game, without the "retain" ability, you will actually draw more cards than you can use and end up discarding cards that you really needed on the next turn. Now, you have to wait several turns potentially to redraw it. There are exceptions, but the general rule in Spire is that too much draw= inactivity.

Gave this game a go today, I think that the card shuffle is too unfair, 80% of the time it deals a shitty hand, so you end up playing a lot (and failing) til you finally get lucky and play a game where you get decent cards and loot and ? situations. Not my cup of tea.

So this wasn't a true run given it was a daily challenge. ( I forget what was the mods but one was a buff time thing)The setup: character: defect the cards were turbo (they were crafted from 30 cards?), which gave you extra energy, a card that does 6 damage to all, and gives extra card. The next good thing that was a good point was one for all. Puts back any 0 cost cards for the discard pile, which gave back the turbo cards. Along the run I earn the mega laser thing, that did 26 to all but takes three focus(also the channeled energy is not used on the run) also most of these cards are multiple copys. The relic that is the key to this unceasy top. If you have no cards in your hand on your turn gain an extra card. Basically infinite amount of cards. There is some details I probably forgot to mention. But this run was nutty. Beat that head thing in one turn.

How to get back to the 4th level for a 2nd (or 3rd or ....)? I finally made it to the 4th level, thanks to your excellent tutorials. However, I failed on my first attempt. Now I'm trying to get back there but can't seem to get beyond the 3rd level with any of the fighters! I get almost there (collecting the 3 gems along the way) but I lose by 1 at the critical moment. Help!
@InaBeta

As I'm sure you saw in these and probably other tutorials, there is no simple solution to this. If I had to guess (and I do), I would say that you're probably playing too fast and taking too many cards that don't really do anything (or the right things) for your deck. Think through each turn 2-3 times and see if you can find a better play than you're initial hit. More often than not, you'll probably find that you can!

I remember I had the perfect run once got all the artefacts and cards I need removed everything unnecessary ( it was a defect infinite build had das relict that says when you don't have any cards draw one and my deck only contained 0 costs cards that buff each other and some minor 0 cost shenanigans) then the final boss hit me like a truck with his nice little "you're only allowed to play 12 cards a turn" debuff
@InaBeta
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Time Eater really do be like that sometimes! There is an encounter or boss that hard counters pretty much any kind of deck you can make, so it's best to have tools that will help you through all of them (especially at high ascension levels where you fight 2 act 3 bosses; you'll have a 2/3 chance to see the boos you don't want to see)! Heart probably would have done this deck in as well it sounds like. Heart loves decks that just spam a bunch of cards (without generating a bunch of block on top of it).
