Hi, I know this is an old video, but I felt like I should add something to the "don't be worried if you bleed alot" tip. I was told that after my first was born, but no one told me how to measure how much blood I was losing. IF YOU FILL MORE THAN ONE SANITARY NAPKIN AN HOUR, SEE A DOCTOR. I was filling 3 or 4 and thought it was normal. Turns out they left a piece of my placenta inside me and I was hemorrhaging for 6 weeks. I had no idea anything was wrong until I passed out for 2 hours and had to have an emergency procedure to save my life. Also, the blood clots should not be as big as your palm. If it is, save it and take it in to be checked. It might not be blood! Don't panic, but be smart.

Yes, weak pelvic floor! Why does no one talk about this?! I was fine post-partum, initially, but then when my menstrual cycle resumed (7 months post-partum) my bladder prolapsed! 😱 The shear horror and fear and pain! And having a doctor minimize it and say no biggie, it's mild...me freaking out, like it is a big deal, my bladder is falling through my vaginal wall! 😞😕 I then became pregnant once again shortly after and the problem resolved itself, but at 24 weeks it has come back due to constipation and straining. People need to talk about these things and be more open, prior to birth, not letting women discover all these scary things after birth; when you're already full of strange hormones, fatigue, anxiety, etc.

I'd like to add to your list, if I may, and if this would help someone to be prepared. 1. major thing that every doctor warns patients, PPD, if you start feeling lost, feeling weird, do tell them before getting discharged. Breastfeeding helps to get attached to your baby, but hormones may still make you crazy for few weeks (lucky it only lasts a few weeks to a month). 2. After delivery still feeling baby's kicks in the tummy, even though he/she is no longer there :), 3. Fear of #2 toilet action and fear of sex/orgasm (being prepared vs thinking it would hurt), 4. Having some consequences after the pregnancy; I ended up with gallstones.

The fact that doctors have you birth on your back when it can literally break bones just because it’s easier for THEM to see is INSANE. gravity helps and the tailbone curves up so it is much better to give birth sitting on a stool upright or on hands and knees

I also wanted to give birth in knealing position but the nurse refused to allow it even though i didn't have an epidural and was able to move about, so I just laid on my back. I regret not doing it anyway. Something is definitely not right with my tailbone/pelvic area. I'm also on my 4th day of quitting breastfeeding/pumping and this is just as hard as in the beginning but even more painful. Thank you for doing this video.

I love that you did this video. My husband and I will start trying for a baby next year so I’ve been watching a lot of these videos and no one talks about it. They say “yeah, it’s hard but it’s worth it to have a healthy baby”... well, of course. But I want to know what I can expect for me. That’s also important. Or they don’t show/talk about the scary/hard moments and make it look like it was some glamorous experience. I’m also so surprised reading through the comments that not knowing these things is so common. I would think your doctors would tell you when you’re pregnant/after delivery. That baffles me. But I so appreciate you doing this. I never would have known about not lying on your back. That’s the main way it’s depicted. So, thank you!!!

Same case here Emily, Some people did not tell me what to expect after I bring the baby home. But I am thankful for Bio tex clinic they had already prepared me well for the journey. Your tips are so important, I literally was in your shoe too. But perhaps I can also share some other tips. Taking home a new baby is one of the happiest times in a woman's life. But it also presents both physical and emotional challenges. Get as much rest as possible. You may find that all you can do is eat, sleep, and care for your baby. And that is perfectly okay. You will have spotting or bleeding, like a menstrual period, off and on for up to six weeks. You might also have swelling in your legs and feet, feel constipated, have menstrual-like cramping. Even if you are not breastfeeding, you can have milk leaking from your nipples, and your breasts might feel full, tender, or uncomfortable. Follow your doctor's instructions on how much activity, like climbing stairs or walking, you can do for the next few weeks. Doctors usually recommend that you abstain from sexual intercourse for four to six weeks after birth.

7 weeks PP and I have some things to add 1. Scar tissue from tearing. I knew I could tear, and I had first degree tearing, but I didn't know that scar tissue could build from that. I had to have mine removed because it hurt to wipe and then probably would hurt during sex. They clipped it and used silver nitrate to chemically cauterize it...was not pleasant! 2. Hemorrhoids! They come, go, and come again! Really bad after labor due to pushing hard. 3. How emotional you are due to hormones! 4. How weak you feel after due to your muscles being stretched out.

Thank you for making this. I am currently 32 weeks pregnant with my third son and I totally forgot about the after pain contractions that you experience when breast feeding. They really hurt with my second child and now realizing with my third I will have them again but probably stronger. Just to add to your list, something that people don't tell you after you give birth is that the dark line that forms on your belly down to the pubic bone does fade away , your belly button will go back in if it has popped out and areolas don't stay darkened and enlarged forever they do go back to normal-ish size and shade, well mine did anyway after I was done breastfeeding. Also another thing no one ever told me or noticed is that my second son has a lip tie on the top of his inner lip. I only noticed it a few weeks ago after researching breast feeding issues. I breastfed him for about 1t6 months and he wouldn't gain very much weight and I never understood why. He also developed a small callous on his top lip and he still has it. I realize now that this is the reason why and that he had been latching wrong and sucking too hard with his top lip and all because of a lip tie. He's perfectly healthy otherwise I don't see a need to correct the lip tie as he is now almost 2 years old and eats, drinks plenty of homo milk with a bottle and has been gaining a proper amount of weight for his age.

As far as #10, you can also give birth on your side. This is especially important if you're mobility is impaired (eg epidural, exhaustion, injury {my personal favourite giving birth within 48 hours of a partial hip dislocation}). Also, these vary for everyone. I had slight PF issues after baby #3 but not #4. I also didn't bleed like crazy. For those who are concerned, the adult sposies are apparently amazing.

I know this is an older video, but I feel that it is important to say something about the endless advice to do Kegels. Only do this if your doctor and/or physical therapist recommend them! I have suffered from pelvic pains, and my pt found out that my pelvic floor muscles are too tight. She told me not to do Kegels at all, as these might make the problem even worse! After giving birth, I have to give my body some rest, see how it all feels, and then check in with her for further evaluation. Kegels are not the be all and end all of pelvic floor exercises. In some cases it is more important to try and relax the muscles instead! Get a proper assessment done by a pelvic floor physical therapist, before accidentally making any problems worse!

Okay, TMI alert. My first #2 took 40 mins! It was huge and scary also I had an episiotomy as baby was B2B and I was scared my stitches would burst, they didn't but I pushed as hard as I did in labour. Also no one really tells you what a commitment breastfeeding is. It took me 2 to 3 weeks to really get to grips with it and that was after some very sore nipples but i persevered and happy to report all is good 1 month on. Also how hot you are because your body is producing milk. I feel like a furnace mostly. Also cluster feeding was a huge and probably the biggest shock especially as I'm breastfeeding. Literally can be sitting for hrs swapping baby between breasts and it is exhausting, baby has what seems like constant growth spurts. However all of these are hugely paid off when they start interacting with you as a result of improved eye sight and their personalities develop, just magical. Also nothing is permanent so know the challenging parts are not forever but savour the good. Trust your instincts and baby is very smart, they learn very quickly. The world is a shock to them, new smells, experiences so they're adapting just like you.

Thank you for telling us about your tail bone. Iv had surgery on mine and expecting our first in Aug. It's been a concern of mine... so its nice to know the regardless of history it can effect that spot. I'll be able to plan around it now...

Emily, that was really informative. My children are 16 and 12, both of which were born with me on my back, I was in so much pain with my tail bone during labour and birth with my second born. I am so with you, with the toilet thing - ouch! Omg I was so scared to pee and the hospital said I couldn't go home until I'd had a poo, not that they physically check, so I told them I had. I often think being in the comfort and privacy of your own bathroom at home helps 😂 sorry tmi. xx

I knew it. I knew it! I have been saying to my doctors that I want gravity to help me in labor and I don't want to "flat back " it. The birthing bar wasn't enough and I wonder if a birthing chair is what's needed. I am so sad this happened but so happy to confirm that it's possible.

Tara Cardle make sure you increase yout fibre intake in the last month. Add fibre supplement to your drink. Constipation can be easily avoided, but no one prepared me for it!

Heaven's, l am 70 now and l now know a lot more than l did when l was 20. The two things l hated was the pull on my uterus when baby suckled in breastfeeding. The second, was how to REALLY do this breastfeeding thing. I wanted to do it but my baby just, what l call "mucked around" but that had to cease i.e. breastfeeding, as my mental space wasn't right on account of everything l'd endured. It was thought my milk might turn sour. I still think about a lot of these things to this day. I was in such a state that l vowed l'd never have another baby. I made sure l didn't and so l only had the one great baby.

I just wanted to tell how much I love your videos which are so informative and positive :) luckily, I have many relatives and friends who have already told me some 'horrors' related to pregnancy, delivery and newborn handling :) therefore, I believe, I won't as scared as I could be without a warning. However, your video presents all the info at once :) So, thank you once again and I wish you and your family all the best hoping you to keep up the fanstantic motherhood and 'brightening' and supporting others :)
