Hi Jasmine, Some really useful info thank you so much. I'm about to buy and 18 day tour Victoria falls - Botswana - Namibia and ends in Cape town on 2nd Jan 24. I'll have 4 days after that and was thinking about beach chilling and maybe 1 day trip before back to western Europe. Was wondering if you have any recommendations for solo African diaspora female to see and do 😊

Oh yes… Greeting for us is a form of respect and recognition of the other person.. Sawubona means I see you. You have to acknowledge the person’s existence ( UBuntu-I am because you are and therefore I see you)There are 12 official languages and many more unofficial not tribes.

I am a South African living in the US and come home once a year, I was hoping she will mention the phone issue and load shedding/power cuts, LOL. I feel it is important to let people aware and just tell them the truth both the good side and the bad side instead of drawing an amazing picture of South Africa with no problems. South Africa is unmatched in terms of natural beauty and development and can beat so many countries both in Europe and Asia but we have our problems too. When I was young watching tv, I thought all Americans lived in mansions and drive big cars and there is money everywhere, LOL, 🤣🤣🤣, that is the influence of movies and music videos. I was surprised moved in to the US that I was one of the only 5 Black families in the where I lived.

Yes greeting is important. In in Zulu we say "SAWUBONA" meaning "I SEE YOU" before you say anything else, to show that you acknowledge my existence. When you don't greet me it's okay but don't talk to me for anything because i don't exist. But its only applicable in close space you don't go around just greeting every stranger.

You should travel by car or bike in South Africa to truly appreciate it. The Northern Cape, North West, Mpumulanga, KwaZulu Natal and the Eastern Cape are hidden gems in the South African crown. The Blyde River Canyon and Kruger Park is in Mpumulanga. Many tourists generally go directly to Kruger Park and miss all the other delights to be found in this region. Road trips are the best way to go.

Although there are 11 languages in South Africa, in reality you could group similar languages since they are just directs of each other (e.g. Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele, Swazi are dilects of the same language, Nguni). (Tshwana, Sotho, Pedi - same language base). We also have Venda language which is not related languages. Then there is English (UK), Afrikaans (Dutch). So my sister there are actually 5 - 6 unique languages in South Africa - 11. However, the dilects are recognized as languages mostly for reconciliation and equality and hence "11" languages. For example Zulus and Xhosas can perfectly understand each other, by the way these two language groups together form the biggest indigenous language group in South Africa. If you like, Nguni is by far, the largest and dominent indigenous language in South Africa.

Nguni is not a language but a grouping of language that are different but have similarities.

@@bonganibophela2819 even so....it doesn't change the principle of languages that are dilects of a "primitive" or "original" language....even if it was not called Nguni.

I've been noticing Durban is underrated somehow. I wish more tourists knew more about South Africa than just Johannesburg and Cape Town😔... Some haven't been to God's Window and The Blydes River canyon in Mpumalanga. Mpumalanga has one of the many most beautiful landscapes ever. Anyway. What places have you visited since you moved to SA? I'd love to here about it. Maybe a video if possible

Hi I just want to add to one of your points just in case those that don't know don't get the wrong impression. So Cape town has the largest concerntration of white people in South Africa but they are still not the majority. They make up 15% of the Cape Town population with Coloureds and Black people still. Being the Majority. The only difference is you're likely to see more white people there then anywhere else in the country. Since Cape Town was the First place Colonials set foot on and made it their home before exploring the rest of Southern Africa back in the 1600 With love keep well💕
@gedenironald8635
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for making that point. Also to add on the fact that majority of wealthy people in Cape town are white and very few are indigenous South Africans but in Johannesburg majority of wealthy people are Black and very few white people.

No. Mainly Covid restrictions, the Ukraine war, logistics issues and a Chinese economic slowdown. Prices in SA are affected by global financial markets not the migration patterns of people from the States.
