12:10 Rikidozan beat up a low-level Yakuza member in a night-club and threw him out of the club. Then the Yakuza returned after some time and stabbed Rikidozan with a knife but didnt do much damage. He got beat-up again for his troubles. Rikidozan had to maintain kayfabe, so he didnt have the wound treated got staph infection and died a few days later. The story about the Yakuza murdering him for being "korean" is very likely the kayfabe-explanation

This episode was INSANE. I knew a decent amount about this North Korea show, but I didn't know what a thug 2Cold Scorpio was, I didn't know about Bischoff's jog, and I didn't realize just how FRIGHTENING North Korea is!!! I don't know if it was the music, or the stories, or just the episode itself, but I hung onto every single word and was so into it! I don't think any episode of this show is ever gonna top this one, it was just INSANE. North Korea is the goddamn scariest place on earth!

I'm sure they would've, just so they could flex their muscle and say "we captured an American" but if there were no witnesses, and they just said "Hawk is missing," im sure they'd go "we'll look for him. Go do your wrestling. If we dont find him until after you leave, we'll send him home," but they'd stop as soon as they left--- or just never look!

I haven't watched it yet but I purchased some years ago the Japanese TV Documentary on this event, which was basically following Akira Hokuto around. It sounds like that documentary is far more detailed as far as showing what life in North Korea was like since the Japanese wrestlers were shown around the area. Collision in Korea (1995) - IMDb

Can we talk about how beautiful the way that Flair putting Inoki over was what got the crowd into the event, and how even though they were forced to be there, they got something out of it. I love that and this is one of the reasons I absolutely love pro wrestling. If that’s fake, I don’t want to be real.

Yes. On his podcast Bischoff mentioned how he (who’s a slim average-height American) towered over the North Koreans. He said they looked gaunt with hollow faces due to malnutrition.

The whole show is up on KZitem but it’s kinda hard to believe there was 100k in attendance when you barely see a crowd on the show. They never zoom out on any of the crowd aside from people visible from the floor level. And the DPRK also definitely had Audience sound dubbed in since the wrestlers themselves said the crowd was oddly quite

I've watched the episode 3 times now and Scorpio gets more and more petty each time I see this. Fact the dude is gleaming with pride over this immature dumbass rivalry with Hawk is embarrassing. Dude is legit rambling about himself fighting a man who's battling hepatitis, it's just beyond absurd. Dude is lame, beyond lame. And the kicker is Hawk isn't even here to share his side of the story. He died a couple short years after this incident.

Being a long time wrestling fan I NEVER heard about this event.. and , what boggles my mind his how Eric still had a job at WCW after this took place.. also, proof that Eric would never put Vince out of business because he his a rookie. Eric didnt even know that they weren't making a single $ from this... When they got to the arena they didn't know that people were being forced to go see the show... I wished they would have talked to Rick and Scott Steiner about the North Korean wrestling event. A fee months after the event. Scott said in an interview that when he looked out into the crowd. It was just a sea of people. And it was crazy for him to see that many people for one event.

One thing that I took away from this is that you don't take your basic freedom as a human being for granted. Communism IS pure evil, we can't allow this to happen and its false promises. Could only imagine on how Ric was feeling once he got off the plane when that trip was over.
