I remember watching this as a very young kid and enjoying it just because I wanted more Back to the Future in any form. Great video.... BUT minor correction because this also blew my mind. Bill Nye did not have his television debut here but the character actually had been created and shown on the sketch comedy show Almost Live. It was a local show that started in Seattle but grew and was eventually picked up and repacked for a few years on Comedy Central. This may have been his first massively known appearance but just a little extra trivia for you.

Great video. I watched Back to the Future when it came out in 1991. I learned during that time Saturday morning cartoons were adapting to new regulations where they had to be more educational for children. When I was a kid and saw this on TV, I could not let go of 3 things from this series that for me conflicted with the BTTF Trilogy: 1. Doc Brown already in the 2nd movie came to realization that it was wrong to mess with time as it started so many problems and consequences (remind there adventures was also only set in Hill Valley, and yet they went much further) so in the 3rd movie he had decided to destroy the DeLorean time machine (and Marty did that right after he went back to his time with a train massacring the car). And then Doc invents ANOTHER time machine in the form of a steam-locomotive (?) and in the cartoon series we see both the DeLorean time machine AND the locomotive time machine....this did not compute in my head. 2. As stated in the first note; Doc wanted there to be no more time travelings due to the dire consequences it came with - And now they freaking travell all over the world history, doing it far worse then in the movie trilogy (?) it is all so contradict to what was a established conclussion. 3. As Minty said, why is Marty McFly, the co-lead character of the Trilogy taking a back-seat here in favour of Doc's boring kids? Why is Marty stupid and his stret-smart persona all gone? This never sit well with me when watched the cartoon on TV.

The TV series were shown here as well, but never did it catch my attention, as you said, they were too far away from the original movies tone. Other than that, I can't opinionate about the cartoon, being over 30 years since I seen and might of gotten only half. The CBS affiliate here in the Akron/Cleveland market seemed to not air the 2nd season. I can only recall being disappointed in never seeing it scheduled. The concept of having live action sandwiching the cartoon goes back as far as the 1950’s. Almost every region in the U.S. developed a show for kids. They’d take a local personality & have them as host for or emcee for a series of cartoon shorts. Likely one of the best known was Bozo the clown. He got his own series of cartoons too. As for one of the earliest live action “cartoon sandwich”, that would have to go to “The New 3 Stooges” shorts from the mid 1960’s. The Stooges themselves were pretty old by this point but it was still fun to see them getting in some mixed up scenario or another. You could also throw in Bobby’s World as another example.
