I think that when Vampire Weekend first came out, there wasn't as much appreciation for just how unique their mixture of sounds and lyrics truly were. Sure, they took a bunch of influence from Paul Simon to the point that some people (usually the snobbier side of the baby boomer generation) still think that they're ripoffs to this day, but I do believe that they genuinely made their own iconic take on those sounds by mixing them with stories about the Ivy League elite and their social tendencies. When you take all of that into account, you make one of my favorite groups coming from my high school years.

Sometimes it happens that we listen to a record and at first we are not convinced, perhaps the context of our life does not make us understand what the record is like, but seen from another perspective then we find good things. I spent with Play and Everything Is Wrong by MOBY, in their day they seemed "boring" and without any particular purpose, I was 18 years old, I listened to them again when I was about 33 years old and I think I could appreciate them better than in their day .

When I first heard 808 State's _Don Solaris_ back in like 2012, 2013, I thought it was... Alright. It was fine. Kinda weird. I liked _90_ way more. That's what I listened to, especially since Pacific 202 was my introduction to their work (shoutouts to an0nymooose) Over the years, though, it's not just grown on me a little, it's become my favorite album of all time, and with it 808 State became my favorite project of all time. Bird, in particular, has been in at least the top 25 most listened tracks on my Spotify Wrapped literally every single year it's existed, and I've hovered around the top .05% of listeners for 808 state writ large since. It's so endlessly positive. Warm and summery, in a way that was really rare in its contemporaries (Soundlab's _Dots and Loops_ and Lemon Jelly's _Lost Horizons_ are the only albums that I can think of with similar vibes). Helped get me through a lot of hard times, and really cemented my love for electronic music more than any other artist. All of this is to say that I *reeeeally* want Anthony to do a classics review for Don Solaris. It's turning 30 soon damnit!!
