prj 789 you’re missing the point. Punk was way over with the fans, The Rock had his moments and legacy defining matches over a 15 year career. Punk turns heel, puts over a part timer, then he also put over Undertaker who wrestles 3 times a year at the absolute max and at summer slam he put over lesnar who’s a part timer, oh and he put over HHH in 2011 who came out of retirement for one match against Punk. All those guys beat him and went away while he still worked TV shows and tours. They had a new Stone Cold in CM Punk; HHH just couldn’t let him succeed because of his ego and how out of touch Vince was (and still is). He deserved that WM Main Event. I don't see why Backlund is a question, when it was all right there. He was a transitional champion between Bret and Diesel. You can say what you will about the match or Diesel's reign, but the reason it happened was pretty clear. It was also a gimmick so over (and Owen's performance was so good), that it made perfect sense for him to be that transition and didn't do any harm to Bret at all, in the short or long terms.

Bob Backlunds return was initially meant to be an "old vs new" angle. An on-going thing meant to continue for a number of PPV's ending in a "submission only" match where Hart would ultimately win by applying the Chicken Wing. They pushed it until Backlund first got the title from Hart, realised that fans were not happy with a charisma-free old duffer in speedo's with a towel being champ and changed it, fast. In order to keep some of the angle, it devolved into a plain "Backlund vs Hart/Chicken Wing vs Sharpshooter" thing after that which did not last long because they wanted Brett to go back to main events & not mid-carding. For that to happen, Backlund would have to lose the title. So, they set him up with Diesel & plumped for a "fasted pin ever" push. Done and done! Look for the vid when Hart puts Backlund in the Chicken Wing in their subsequent match, taps out instantly (before it's even fully applied) & then goes on a weird walkabout while shouting "The light! The light! I have seen the light!"

The match between Hogan and Orton in 2006 was supposed to be a push for Randy. He was scheduled to win BUT Hogan puted his weight and name in the balance and whined about getting a victory. The same thing he did to Shawn Michaels in 2005 refusing to lose a match with him.

With Backlund and Hart they were just returning the favor to Bob for dropping the title to the iron sheik in '83 in the same exact fashion (Arnold Skaaland threw the towel in for Backlund) for the same exact purpose (moving the title to another babyface, hulk hogan in '84 like nash in '94).

Backlund and that crossface chickenwing was over AF in 1994. Him regaining the title was great storytelling. Didn't like them letting Diesel squash him though.

Kevin Nash has stated in multiple interviews that he was indebted to Bob Backlund for how he put him over by actually crawling back to the locker room from the ring after the match

I like it when the WWE brings back wrestlers from the past, because the people who watch the WWE today are mostly new fans who are not going to know who they are, except for the ones who never left like Randy Orton, John Cena, Triple H, Kane and Undertaker, Big Show etc. They're probably only going to recognize The Rock but that's because of his movies where he's known by his real name Dwayne Johnson and not as The Rock like he used to be, plus he hasn't wrestled full time in almost two decades now. So by having a lot of former wrestlers come back it gives the younger audiences a chance to see them for the first time because these fans weren't around when they were there in the past.

I get what you're saying but the past made it possible for the present to exist.

Hogan didn't demand a title shot at WrestleMania 9 (storyline wise) Fuji challenged him, tho why he was there is a completely different question. Obviously Hogan pulled a creative backstage to stick around and then didn't return the favor to Hart.

That Bill Goldberg thing was also so bad because it made the actual talent act out of character. KO was a pricefighter who would always be focused when fighting for a championship. But on that day just Chris Jericho's appearance distracted him enough to get steamrolled by a 53 year old guy. Alsi Chris Jericho - who notoriously doesn't like Goldberg - was just helping Goldberg to win the title. But wouldn't actually get revenge for the beatdown he received before. In the end the segment deflated the feud between Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens instead of adding anything to it and just served for getting the title on Brock Lessnar, which likely was his payment for allowing Goldberg to squach him.

Hogans victory over hhh at backlash was good for business at the time because hhh didn't make a good Babyface anyways and fans wanted Hogan to win, and undertaker in 2009 wasn't really the past even though he was a legend by then but he was still a full time wrestler and having some of his best matches like the one with Shawn Michaels at wrestlemaina 25 so I considerd undertaker current not past

Daniel Bryan .v. The Authority was a beautiful done storyline, now imagine if they had run that story with CM Punk in the role of Daniel Bryan. The pissed off employee fighting back against "The Machine" (not you Brian Cage) that is WWE, would have elevated CM Punk to main event status. But of course, Vince being the douche bag he is, refused to do that story line because he did not create Punk, Phil Brooks did.

You can make a list for JUST CM Punk alone. There were other matches of his not even mentioned here. Punk Vs Taker at Wrestlemania for instance.(Edit: Especially considering the streak ended the next year anyways to someone who didn't need a win, Brock Lesnar. Punk could have gotten a huge amount of momentum with a streak ending win. Brock didn't benefit from it at all. He was already earmarked to be a main eventer for years to come.)

I completely disagree with Goldberg v owens. If you know what a Shonen anime is then you'd know what format Vince was going for. At the moment the glass ceiling was Goldberg, Lesnar, Taker were the top of the card and somebody from the modern era was going to break through that ceiling bringing in a new era. Those three needed to look super strong in order for them being slain to look legit. Sadly that person was Roman Reigns

Lol, the only reason people view Punk and Hart as being guys who were "buried and screwed" is because they both cried like bitches. They never understood that they never actually "won" the title, wrestling is a work.

That is true, but HBK was not a part timer the dude had world class matches compared to hogan. And hogan was 50+ years old at that time, he should've put HBK over, like the Undertaker did with roman reigns. Hogan was an average wrestler compared to HBK
