Bust darts are actually an indication of a well made garment. The darts should be inverted (meaning the point is inside- not outside like the examples). They are truly beneficial for the full busted as adds more fabric to the bust-line. This allows shirt to fit in shoulders and accommodate the girls.

Agreed! It’s a European invention that stands the test of time. You will see the darts used in apparel all over France. Especially in bras and other undergarments. Plus it accentuates the female form in a truly flattering way.

I'm busty with a small ribcage so darts are ideal for me. If not, I end up with my blouse bunching up in the space between my bust and armpits or just draping off my bust which to me looks super matronly and also a nuisance when living in a windy, oceanfront town.

The darts in the front aren’t messy. They are a structural design in the outfit for the bust line. If a person is larger than an A cup, and especially if she is a D cup or larger, then these dart lines are necessary unless you are wearing a muumuu. The darts make allowance for the bust but then bring the rest of the outfit back to the body. It is perfect for showing curves, waistlines, and especially hourglass figures.

I do wish more manufacturers would bother to make them. In fact, one reason designers want skinny, boyish models is so they don't have to bother with darts or any tailoring that would cater to an average body.

As a fashion design grad I can tell you darts are not there as an unnecessary messy detail infact the sign of sophisticated tailoring. The examples shown were of stiffer fabrics with darts not been pressed the right way. My personal favourite are french darts that are on the side seam though.

I love your videos but I have some constructive Criticism as a designer: You have a lack of understanding when it comes to constructing clothes. Darts are there to create shape for areas that are not flat, (like your bust) so it’s absolutely necessary for them to be at your bust point specifically, because your. Bust area is round and not flat. If the darts were not there, the garment wouldn’t fit you properly. It doesn’t matter from what direction the dart is coming from, but it will always end at the bust point (your nipple area) They are especially necessary for fabric with no stretch in it. The alternative is making a panel instead of a bust dart. But that changes the whole design. Other than that I love you videos thank you for all the useful information and tips ✨

I completely agree. The dart is necessary for some designs and bust sizes. The precision in sewing it without leaving a point is important. Bunching of fabric and knotting thread ends leaves a pop-up point. Flat chested people can use tops that do not need the extra space for the bust area. I have heard that the 1.5 inch difference in measurement between the high back and the shoulder numbers from the waist up means you need a dart.

Darts don't have to create the "pointy nipple". When done correctly they don't. It appears to be intentional on the runway examples. Look for garments that are properly constructed..especially if you have average to large breasts.

Just like the belt loops on shirts and dresses, I hate to see the supposedly “hidden” hanger loops peeking out of someone’s top at the neckline area. Those things need to be snipped off immediately upon purchase. I think they are meant more for the convenience of the STORE, to make the garment hang properly, and to not slip off the hanger easily. Don’t keep them on your tops/dresses - they will sneak out eventually!

Hi Shea! So I'm a fashion design student and while I understand why designers still put in front darts, I absolutely agree that they just look.....weird. If they are even a bit messed up when making the garment then the poor person wearing it has to look like they are wearing one of those burlesque cone bras! Safe to say, if I'm ever well known, you'll never have to worry about that with my designs! Great video!

She couldn't believe it. I don't like distressed jeans or shabby chic decor. I have something shabby in my house but it's my great-grandmother's hope chest. It was painted white. The oldest daughter got the chest for her hope chest and so on. My grandmother and mom didn't paint the chest. There were some flowers on the chest. Now it's just some random paint chips instead of flowers. I didn't paint the chest either. That paint was done by my great-great grandfather. That's history.

Darts, if well done, don't look like a pointy arrow to the nipples. Also, there is this other way of doing darts, in which you just elongate it to the shoulder lenght (creating a seam that crosses you from top to bottom, yes) so you don't have to worry about that very end tip.

Middle-seamed yoga pants.. UGH For the love of all that is holy.. even with a gusset, you’re pretty much signing me up for a long shirt or constant awkward angles in every photo

My advice: avoid chunky boots/shoes in general unless they’re required for your work. Sleek boots ALWAYS look better. They’re far more attractive because they elongate your leg. Chunky shoes are just such a missed opportunity for a pretty/elegant leg!

Totally agree with you on those chunky combo boots, they remind me of work boots 🥾 my Sons wear to work and I think they look ugly. Cheers from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺❤️❤️
