Quick Tip: if you want a pole for your go pro keep an eye on the trail bellow the lifts. If you see a ski pole there at the start of the day and it's still there by the end of the day grab it. I've gotten 2 poles this way before.

Tip 7. When mounted on a helmet, mount the camera so you get a small part of the helmet in the shot. The fact that you have a steady object in the shot, make the shot seem more steady. And that makes a world of difference for the viewer.

Hey Kevin, good video as always, I am a big fan of what you do! Just a quick question, didn't see the case you are using, is it always the transparent one or sometimes you are using the Skeleton one that covers only the edges? Good idea for an external microphone, however have you tried using an additional stabilizer for better dynamic shootings? Thanks for reading and answering to that long comment :)

As far as #8, cleaning the lens, I always wipe some Rain-X over my lens to avoid it collecting water. This helps a bit when you have some rainy days, like we do here in the southeast US, where snow is not as abundant as we'd like it all the time.

Instead of choosing when to film, just use the LOOPING feature (Hero 3 and up). That way you can film all day while the GoPro will delete old footage automatically and save the footage you want when you click the button, therefore you don't miss anything.

@TheOriginalLlama32

Helmet mounts are actually great, you just need to angle it a lot better compared to the video. You want it angled enough to show you, but also enough that it views whats in front of you. Poles are good, but if you have the money Wizmount backpacks are the best for convenience, and definitely get the best shots for solo riding. Also 30fps is only better for slow speeds. If your going fast, or you have the memory, always go 60fps to increase quality. And like every other high-end lens, you should always use a microfibre cloth or disposables to clean/wipe it. Unless you like little scratches in your shot. And also, the battery backpack is faaar more convenient and lasts longer than 2 batteries.

I noticed a mistake in this video. It was said that batteries drain "fast" in cold weather. In fact, its the opposite. The problem is that batteries drain so slowly in the cold that they can give a false reading of low power, or even that they are dead. However, once you go inside and warm them up, they will show fully charged again. The best procedure is to keep your camera as warm as possible until you need to use it. And carry any spare batteries as close to your body as possible. A small thermal bag with chemical hand-warmer packs is a good way to keep small action cams warm in winter.
