Hello! I wanted to say that I managed to have a natural birth with no epidural, and to a large extent it's because of this video! I didn't have a doula but for the rest every tip you have helped me so much! Like only focusing on the next contraction and forget about the rest, and try to be as calm as I can for my baby and rest in between contractions. Thanks a lot for sharing! It really saved me from getting an epidural.

Hi I am just wondering when you say 'rest in between' how should we do this exactly? Should I lay down in bed, or walk around. I have heard walking helps so much but to me walking is not resting so I have been confused on this matter. I am almost at my due date (first baby) and really hoping I can go natural.

I wanted to come on and tell you how this video helped me giving birth to my daughter yesterday! My husband and I followed the breathing strategy and it WORKED!!!! The midwife of 30 years said she's never seen a more composed mother in labor. I've watched this video a few times and watched it just before I was induced, so I was mentally prepared. I barely grunted during the contractions because I was so relaxed. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!! P.S. no pain meds after pitocin!!!

Yes! I would much Rather have an epidural free labor. I healed faster, felt better sooner, was able to connect with my son better. I had a traumatic birth the first time around. My second birth was a healing birth. I'm so appreciative of my husband, midwife and doula.

I wanted to message you to tell you I had my natural birth August 1st but wasn't expecting it to only be 2hrs from first contraction to delivery. Your tip about the 3 deep breaths and having your birth partner help you along the way was honestly the best advice. I went from contractions being 5mins apart to 2mins in an hour and the breathing technique helped so so much. I can't thank you enough for making this video. My recovery has been amazing and even though it was so intense, painful and crazy experience I wouldn't have it any other way. 😊

Can I just put this video on loop while I'm in labor? haha! I am a first time mom and I am searching for tips for having a natural child birth in a hospital setting. I feel this is very empowering. I have a doula, I am reading tons of literature, and doing dozens of other things that I feel might make my labor and birthing experience a success. Eating dates, drinking red raspberry leaf tea, exercising, trying hypnobabies (that one is sort of challenge it's surprisingly difficult to block out thirty minutes of uninterrupted silence). Thank you for sharing these tips.

I know this video is old but I really needed to come back to this and say a huge THANK-YOU! I had two pregnancies with the epidural -the first I went over 24 hours in labour and got it for the only reason of thinking I would not have the energy to safely push my baby out (If only then I knew you get a crazy adrenaline rush when it comes time) The second pregnancy went terrible with epidural I will save the gore for those who may read this.. but thanks to watching this video and a couple others repeatedly I judt had my third baby completely natural!!! :) NO drugs whatsoever not even an iv bag!!! and it was the BEST experience of my life, pain and all! & guess what, when I was haven the extremely bad contractions it was YOUR voice that came into my head, especially when you would talk about how your doula would repeat over and over with each contraction the same thing and so thats what I did to myself. Counted my breaths and focused one the one contraction and did not even care what time it was etc . A million thank-you's for convinceing me I could do it! I felt so empowered and am actually not scared of child birth anymore!!

I was so scared getting the epidural and my dr wasn't all that sportive for a natural birth. I'm totally getting a midwife .. I know u explained ur experience but how was pain for u? I'm scared I won't be able to do it
@Starsofneon

Khiabet Cuadra I breathed thru the pain counting my breaths and relaxed my body thru them as much as possible. The worste thing you can do is tense up and try to fight the pain! I focused on one contraction-(surge) at a time I didn't keep track of the time and I didn't focus on how much longer I would have to go. Hot shower on back and partner giving massage or pressure with bottom of palms helped alot too! Believe it or not I actually fell asleep briefly during hard labour when I was 9.5 cm dilated because I kept my eyes closed and jus focused on the breaths and would relax entirely in between !

So, about 6.5 months ago this video really helped me out. I was about to go through labor and I was terrified. Most people were saying it was okay to 'get the drugs' but I personally didn't want to. My boyfriend was the only person in the room with me and even he was for me not going through all of the pain. The people around me had great intentions but they didn't understand that this was an important thing for me to go sans drug. At about 5am I was sitting in the tub - around 6cm dialated and having AWFUL back labor. I was exhausted from being up all night and really struggling. I asked my boyfriend to play some Trampled by Turtles and turn on THIS VIDEO. He had to search for it since I forgot to favorite it but we found it. I watched this while screaming, crying and trying not to nod off and it really helped me calm down. I just wanted to say Thank you so much, Elle. You were a piece of my birth story. Also our baby boy is healthy and happy :)

Elle, I am coming back to this video to tell you that this helped me quite a bit with my natural unmedicated labor and birth! Specifically the way you described how to breathe through the contractions. Man, breathing through those contractions was hard! I didn’t realize how the contractions would physically knock the breath out of me each time. Thinking of my contractions as waves of three-five deep breaths REALLY got me through the labor. In fact, it was my only coping mechanism during my labor! Once I got to the pushing, it was all good and actually painless for me. Thanks for this video! Really helped me out.

Jeanette C. You’ll do great! I went all natural with preeclampsia, baby girl is now 2 and a half weeks old...tbh the only “bad” part are the contractions, which like she said think about the moments to come when the contraction is over...pushing baby out I didn’t feel anything but some pressure, your body pushes as well and knows what to do, I was only 7cm when she started coming so she had some bruising due to “pressure face” but we’re both healthy now ...just a little thing that helped me was some Music, I even hummed my favorite songs...and have a good support person 😀good luck 😀

I love this video. I gave birth back on April 1st. I went in with mindset that I would get an epidural because of all the horror stories I've heard about labor and childbirth. i didn't know how bad it would get. I did not think I was strong enough, at all. Turns out I was and I went all natural. I completely agree with you - I wanted to do labor over and over again after I gave birth and I wanted to run a marathon afterward. it's great to hear positive things about birthing. birth is beautiful!!

Thank you for making this video. It's because of you that I hired a doula! She helped me so much. I didn't have one for my first daughter and my breathing was out of control and I had so much fear. This time I labored as much as I could at home before going to the hospital. I remembered all of your tips throughout my labor, too. When I arrived to the hospital the nurses thought I'd only need two pushes, but as it turns out my baby was 9 lbs 13 oz, so I pushed for two hours! It was brutal, but I did it! I pray my next baby will be smaller next time, but I'm so happy I was able to do it. This was a Vbac for me as my 1st was an emergency csection, but I had already fully dilated. God bless you for your help! You were God-sent!

OMG! I'll be 35 weeks pregnant tomorrow with my first baby and you have made me feel SO much more comfortable and less anxious and stressed about my upcoming birth. I have always wanted a natural birth, but if I really feel like I need it, I would probably get the medical pain relief. I know i can do it without it, though! Its just I know that I will need to focus and concentrate. Its going to be a huge mind over matter thing. I felt totally positive and felt like i could just do it and I wasn't afraid, but now that I am so close I think about it all the time and it was feeling like a countdown to my death or something! I've watched your video after watching a few of other people's advice and yours is the best by far! I feel so positive now and feel like I have nothing to be afraid about and that I should just keep thinking positive thoughts and know that I can get through it and that so many women do and that it is the best thing for me and the baby by doing it the natural way. This was so helpful. I am about to have my 3rd baby but at home and no medication! I'm so excited but literally had no grid for what practicals I needed to know. You were specific in describing the tips and very encouraging. I downloaded this video to watch on repeat! I also shared with my husband and doula and I'll be posting to my Facebook groups too. Thank you so much! Definitely subscribed!

Thank you for this video! I am 37 weeks 4 days, and preparing for a birth center birth. I've had a few bumps along the way that caused some stress surrounding my pregnancy and my confidence in my body's ability to handle pregnancy and labor and delivery. I feel like I'm coming out of that now. I hired a doula last week and my appointment with my midwife this week was very reassuring. The birth center I will be going to has an 8% transfer rate, and it sounds like most of those women are first time moms that become tired. This is my first so I hope I don't end up being in that group, too! I love your tips, and I plan on watching this again and again in the next few days/weeks.

You sound very prepared. I'm sure you'll be fine. I found resting during early labour to be key. If you're in early labour during the day move around to get things moving but if it's during the evening SLEEEEP cause you'll need your strength for active labour. Can't wait to hear your birth story! Having a doula will be a HUGE asset to you as well.

very helpful , I want to go natural so bad but I'm really doubting myself because ppl say it hurts really and once you start feeling contractions your gonna be begging for an epidural. I'm due July 27th .. I should listen to this when I go in labor lol !

Just because you have an epidural doesn't mean you'll be without discomfort. My dear friend had one and her labor experience was most unpleasant and uncomfortable.

i had my first two with epidurals 13 years ago. after researching the benefits of a drug free birth i want to do it this time. I am so scared because i know how painful it was with my daughter and i was only 3 centimeters dialated when i got to the hospital. but then again i was 20 and not as prepared for it. Thank you so much for these great insightful tips.

I gave birth a month ago to a 10lbs baby girl, drug free- All natural! I'm just now watching this video but I absolutely agree with your tips! 100% I also incorporated essential oils with my labor. And yes afterwards I also said I can't wait to have another baby! It was such an incredibly amazing experience!

EXCELLENT job. I felt like I was sitting in a coffee shop with a good friend. I went natural w/ baby #2 (vbac after #1 was a C) but forgot everything I had learned in preparing for #1... This time around with baby#3 - vbac #2 - I plan to be much better prepared and your video has made a valuable contribution. Your tips were spot on and I really appreciated your overall approach and perspective. Keep up the great work- you're helping so many! :)

This is the most helpful and informative video I’ve seen and you’ve made me feel so much more at ease going into this. I’m being induced in a couple weeks and I’ve heard contractions are a little more intense when you’re induced, but I feel like a lot of what you said will really help me. So thank you! :)

I had my daughter drug free, with a midwife and doula. These are great tips! Also, kegel exercises and pelvic floor stretching during pregnancy are super important! I like to think of birth as an Olympic event and we need to prepare ourselves like athletes! I pushed for twenty minutes and labored for 12. Great job :)
