I was so nervous during my first meetings, I just started this year, booked 5 out of 5 meetings. I quickly realised that it's all about personality and professionalism. The couple already knows my prices, my portfolio, they just want to know I'm a normal person :) just that realisation makes it so much easier :)

Great video. What if you're new to the industry and don't have any weddings to show? I have worked in the wedding and event industry for years, but am now starting my own wedding coodination business.

If you can, try to assist another coordination business that will let you use them as a reference and the images for your portfolio. You can also offer to plan an event for friends, family, or a business to get the images to use!

Hi Joy, If you meet at a coffee shop do you typically buy a coffee for the clients? Or is it okay to just buy yourself a coffee to use the space? Thanks, love your videos! :)
@Joymichelle

Hi Danielle! I do offer to buy most times. If I arrive long before them I sometimes grab myself something and sit down. I think it's ok to buy yourself a coffee for the use of the space though. Thanks for watching and good luck at your meetings!

Hi Joy! I love this video (all your videos actually!) and I would love to see a video on what comes before the consulation. From inital contact to booking the meeting. I am wondering if you email back and forth some, have a phone call, or do you try to book an in person meeting as quickly as possible? I love when you share your thinking behind every thing you do!

@Joymichelle
7 жыл бұрын
sure, so depending on if they have selected a package in the meeting or not I will send an agreement with the 1 collection or a brochure with a collection to choose. basically I give them the next step in the booking process so they're not left wondering what's next. does that answer your question?

+Fina Makpolo I haven't yet! What would your questions be? I can cover this
@FM-ny7xh

Hello Joy! Thank you for your prompt response. All the weddings that I have planned and attended as a guest I felt like the photographers knew what and how to cover the important moments of a wedding but also that I could see that they missed guidance. As a wedding planner I attend most of the meetings with the photographer, I am the one programming the wedding day timeline and the photographer timeline as well. Together we do pre visit of all the venues (ceremony and reception if different) Mainly to check the light at a particular time of the day. Once to get better pictures, we even suggested to change the time of the wedding and the client followed our suggestion. Sometimes I go to engagement shoots as well ( I bring all the necessary props) If a wedding guest is trying to pull away the photographer from shooting what she/he needs to shoot, I am the one trying to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Partucurlaly with mixed couples having different culture or faith. The photographer doesn't always know all the traditions involved. Well I work in Africa and the way wedding photography is perceived might be different. In some countries we are willing to learn and improve our skills. Having said that the QUESTION IS: do you ask your clients if they have a wedding planner or wedding coordinator? If they have how do you work with the coordinator before the wedding and on the wedding day? Do you follow your own agenda or sometimes you need a bit of direction from a designated person from the family or from the wedding planner? I hope it's not a silly question... 😉Thank you for your feedback. FINA

Hi there. You’ll need some portfolio to showcase. Even if that’s parties you did, or a styled shoot. Think about how you can showcase your skills and ease their minds even if you’re new. What experience DO you have?
