Went to a black church bbq in South Carolina, smack dab middle of nowhere near the coast. Nicest people I’ve met to date all the brothers outside fixin up the church n attending to the pig roast n crawfish boil while the ole mommas were inside the kitchen. Let me tell my fellow white folk, you wanna witness heaven? You go to a black church bbq in the south. Boi I tell ya that smoked hog n fried catfish put me in a mf coma! With that came loads n loads of Mac n cheese pickel potato salad corn bread beans n rice. And to top it off sweet potato pie, peach cobbler, and banana pudding. It was $10 a plate n I was there for work from Chicago. I left with a few recipes from the old mommas n a hug from each of them I had to let em know that was the greatest meal I’ve had to date. I took another plate home. And left a $50 bill with them. But that little Taste of heaven was priceless.

They used to have big open air concerts in the town centre too which my parents enjoyed with a few castle beers! Spending my pocket money at the Mall on saturday was a highlight of the week and buying lucky bags from Camp Hypermarket, you used to get a surprise toy and sweets inside. 🤣 One day in the line at the till waiting to pay, my mum noticed the young man behind us was Seretse Khama's son. She thought that was very cool meeting him. I had very happy times with my brothers as a child in Botswana. The ppl were just the kindest, warmest ppl you'd ever meet. See below true story that verifies this video to be FACT: So I'm the approved potato salad maker for our generation (recipe passed down from the previous generation).. well once I thought it might be nice to try something a lil different and more healthy, so I brought homemade humus to a family gathering instead of the potato salad... Yalll....NEVER AGAIN!!! I was talked about sooo badly...."what da hell you do dat for?!".."you did what?" .."well where the potato salad at?"...and you could hear the news spreading... "she gone say she didn't make the potato salad!!" ... oh the hate and the bullying that took place that day. Everybody was mad... I was straight up shunned from the family for a day!! ...I had to sit by myself and was the only one who ate the humus. Lesson learned, Rule #5-never bring a new recipe to a family gathering. It's been years and I'm still traumatized! LOL!

If you don't have enough money or any money at all you can always let the hosts know that you can contribute in other ways like come over to their hse early and help organise and set up everything for the BBQ. You can also make something with whatever's in your cupboard(but make sure the combo makes sense tho) can't be bringing trash to a cookout.
