Excellent video! Funny story, in the early 80's my Dad got me the big 18" ALIEN that you got on your shelf there! It was on clearance for about 5 bucks. I was around 5 or 6 at the time. That was the first and last year that my Mom let my Dad do the Christmas shopping. LMAO! She was like, "That's gonna scare the sh!t out of him!" But my Dad insisted that I would love it. He was right! That Christmas, the big toy on my list to Santa was the AT-AT from Empire Strikes Back. Santa delivered on that, AND surprised me with the ALIEN! I hadn't seen the movie yet so my Dad had to explain a bit about it. He became the big hit of that Christmas. Overshadowing even the AT-AT. He's the supreme sentimental toy from my childhood! I still have him! Although... Now he's making videos with my equipment and running his own KZitem channel. Life is wierd sometimes... Check it out! TALKING XENO

Another reason the Big Chap Alien figure didn't last long was because the thing is notoriously fragile and brittle. Back in the day toys had to be rugged as hell to survive the sandbox. I knew an older lady who ran a comic book and collectibles shop called The Dragon's Lair prior to 1979. She said that was the case in 1979 a mom complained about Alien being an R-rated movie. She bought the last 11 a store had and sold them over the years. My friend who owned a used record store bought one. I bought her last one when she retired in 2007. It was listed as $500 but she sold it to me for $400 in box with the included poster. The box price sticker says Sporting Goods $18.99. The store was 'hiding' them outside of the toy dept lol Ironically I've never seen kids so happy to play with a toy than the ones on the box lol I have videos of HR Giger's Alien Art Book I show my observation that the Kenner's Alien logo shape is the egg silo that eventually showed up in a form in Ridely Scott's Prometheus. I have the Alien board game I did a couple vids on also. I never heard if that was pulled the same as the 18" Kenner Alien. It probably was. The Alien standee's art show its skull instead of the dome. The gameplay is based on Parcheesi. On top of all that the Alien is a very accurate sculpt.

Jakks had an action figure line for WWF back in the mid to end of 90's called the Bone Crunching Action series. They had a figure of Al Snow reported by some "University Professor" and had it taken off from Walmart all because the figure came with an accessory that they thought was a severe woman head and mistook the character Al Snow as a serial killer who murders women, when in fact the in-ring gimmick was him playing a schizophrenic character who uses a mannequin head as a "person" he talks to.

On Alien Todd, I think it was more the $50 price tag, which adjusting for inflation would be $181 or so today, that kept a lot of stores from offering it. Only thing I can remember was somewhere in 1979, Playboy had a blurb saying "Hey what a weird toy! and $50?" and they had a lady on her back and the Alien figure had a hand raised to the side of her chest and he was uh, let's say, nursing her. But i can't find the picture on it with a 5 minute web search, and I doubt that would have caused a parent ruckus, coz then the parent would have to explain why they were looking at Playboy.

Neca, Super7, McFarlane, et al would have been in that section. Target has started to do just this. Unfortunately some toy fans mistakenly believe that Black Series, Marvel Legends, and GI Joe Classified are adult collectibles, they are children's toys. Mezco makes an adult collectible item. Toys R Us had no business placing toys from a show about drug manufacturing and dealing on their shelf where kids could see. It is utterly ridiculous.

Thanks again for another insightful video. Some of the cancelled toys you mention I remember, others I've never even heard of. I remember that laughable and absurd reason for banning the talking Barbie. "Math is tough", yes. I remember. But apparently only certain people are allowed to admit it, while others aren't. In today's insanely ridiculous and paranoid world, we are seeing Dr. Seuss, The Muppets, and even Abraham Lincoln getting banned/ cancelled. The madness will continue only as long as we allow it. I believe eventually it will pass, like all fads it has a shelf life. When a fad ends, it is quickly replaced by another fad. I've seen it happen countless times. As soon as the hungry cat is done roaming around in one garbage can, he goes looking through another. As for the Kenner Alien figure, I remember 1979 quite well and there was no fuss over the figure. It just didn't sell very well, period. In today's world a certain group of people with apparently a lot of time on their hands, enjoys rewriting history. These revisionists like to tell it like it isn't. But it doesn't work on us older folks who do remember how things really were. So they cater to the young dunderheads who don't remember how it really was and don't care if the stories are true or not. It's as simple as that.. I really don't think anyone was frightened by the Kenner Alien. The Bionic Bigfoot and Chewbacca figures didn't scare anyone either. The Kraken from Clash of the Titans and the Rancor from Return of the Jedi were just as "scary looking" as the Alien, but there was no fuss. I'd love to own a Kenner Alien figure, but I know it's out of my price range right now. But that's what I said about Stretch Armstrong and Stretch Monster.

The reason I heard the kenner alien line was cancelled was had less to do with parents being outraged and more to do with Kenner themselves. Supposedly the people at kenner were originally under the assumption that Alien was going to be more like Star Wars. Once they found out it was a straight up horror film they cancelled the line as they were afraid it would tarnish the companies image to sell children's toys for such a violent, gorey film

As always, interesting topic. Personally, I agree that putting the Breaking Bad action figures in a Toys ‘R Us aisle was a bad idea. Companies can make what they want, but making something that was essentially R rated available in a kids store was bad form. BTW, have you seen the channel Spector Creative? He worked for Mattel designing toys, and has some interesting inside perspectives on issues like distribution, design and marketing. He has some explanations as to why toys we would consider aimed at the collector ends up in big box stores. He says nothing is truly aimed at the collector aside from the specialty websites because the collector is just not a big enough part of the market - every toy released depends on sales for kids to make money. Makes you wonder, given the expense of setting up the tooling, how Breaking Bad action figures even got green lighted.

UK the Mini figure line in early 90s Monster in My Pocket based off myths and legends had Ganesha and Hanuman removed in later batches because some complained about their gods begin called monsters in a toy line. I atleast understand the Tarzan scenario in a sense.. Not that I agree with it but I understand while people seein a problem with that one .. I also am on the same mindset of the Punisher toy aswell on understanding the reason . but don't agree with pulling it

I still have that Alien figure, I think I bought it at Toys R Us for $20 in 1980 not knowing it was from a movie, I just thought it was cool. I still have the plastic dome, unfortunately the arms fell of many years ago, probably I twisted them too far and the rubber holding them snapped, and the small spine that protrudes from the back also broke, mind you the head still glows in the dark and the jaw works.

We've got shops down here, that are all referred to as "$2 shops" I guess they're like your Dollar tree. I dunno. One of the funniest toys I saw, was a knock off Transformer called...... Wait for it... Gangbang. Not sure why it was called that. Since his alt mode was a Helicopter. Which kinda sounds painful.

I don't know if this is correct but I remember that the Crash Dummies toy line was canceled in America because some "parents" groups complained about them being too violent. Only 2 waves of figures released in the US. Waves 3 and 4 came out in Europe only. Would like to know if there is any truth to them being banned. Also The Incredible Crash Dummies are my favorite action figure line and would love to see a video about them. This is in reference to the 90's toy line by TYCO. Not the 2000's line on the Hot Wheels label.
