I have 10 buff, 10 barred, and 10 rhode island reds. They are beyond amazing for the yard and the responsibility is good for the kids.

Our hens keep the yard looking good and have kept our woods clear of wood ticks for five years! We got rid of the Reds as they were way too bossy and began picking on others. Enjoy your hens! The kids will learn a lot too! Cheers!

I like both breeds but love the hardy and strong Barred Rocks

We chose both due their tolerance for cold weather. The rocks have proven themselves on our farm over the past year and a half. The Buffs are beautiful and we are betting they will stay warm with all those feathers!

dGreat looking flock! We love our girls, one bardrock, one Rhode Island red, one Americana, one buff, and three leghorns. They each have unique personality and are trained to come every time the fridge opens lol. The Bardrock is the regulator, with Buff taking her place if Bards not around. Home based eggs are the very best. We were not able to get more this year because of avian flu, at least that is what tractor supply Hilo told us, might try locally still yet.

I hope you can get more once the Avian Flu goes away. The Buff's are really mellow and so are the Rocks. Aloha!

We ended up keeping only one Buff Orpington. The Buffs were really broody and no production. We got them to families who wanted a broody hen. The Rocks are awesome for attitude and egg laying. Cheers!

at what week mark did their feathers start to show white? I have a 4 week old thats still all black. Im 90% sure that its barred bantam.

The black and white speckled feathers come in within two weeks. If it's all black, you've got something else (Black Sex Link, Barred Bantam, etc.). I've got a video showing the Barred Rock at two weeks, four weeks, etc. Check it out and you'll see.

Our Buffs started laying around 22 weeks. They are late layers. The Buffs became so broody that we sold nine of the ten Buffs. Sold them to people who wanted Buffs to sit on nests. We have one Buff and she lays almost every day. Good luck with your hens!

They are definitely healthy! They're eating enough for 50 chickens and out exploring the entire yard. We love our Rockers but the Buffs are finding a spot in our hearts! Can't wait to see how big they will get as adults!

@TheOldSwedesFarm
2 жыл бұрын
@@josephauld6565 Feathers will not determine the sex. Watch the comb and wattle. They will grow faster on a rooster. A rooster will be taller than the hen and you'd see the size difference start pretty quickly. They will also start crowing after a couple months. Hope this helps.
