Well, I've been enjoying Bourbon for around 30 years. Right now, I'm really enjoying Eagle Rare, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Old Forester 1910, Elijah Craig Toasted, Stagg, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, EH taylor Small Batch, Blantons. In that order. But it won't be long, this current list will change.

Its very difficult to get many of those in my area - go Canada! Looking forward to a nice long road trip to pick up some bottles sometime in the near future.

@@tythebourbonguy I've been mostly into Irish Whiskey, just getting into Bourbon. For the Irish, Redbreast. A big fan of the Cask Strength and the Lustau. I've been enjoying the Rare Breed.

I love all these bourbons, but I have to disagree with recommending Wild Turkey 101 to beginners. The 101 was one of my very first bourbons I ever purchased, and I found it to be way too hot. I couldn’t drink it, and it took me years to finally enjoy it. For beginners, I think you need to stick to low proof bourbons. Eagle Rare was the reason I fell in love with bourbon.

Good thought. Eagle Rare made me appreciate bourbon and what it could be several years ago and if it was widely available, I’d definitely recommend every time! My thought with WT is introducing someone to Wild Turkey products in general. In cases where that’s too hot, I recommend Russell’s 10 Year. Cheers and thanks for watching! 🥃

I have to say I’ve only had one i didn’t like and one that didn’t like me! Didn’t like Buffalo Trace but I will say that I had it a long time ago so maybe I need to try it again! Woodford Reserve I like a lot but it gave me a brutal headache every time ( before I could finish the first 2 fingers) and yes I tried almost half of a the larger bottle!

Should have included a rye. 4 Roses SiB has a decent amount in it I suppose.
@tythebourbonguy

I’ve thought about that. But a lot of beginners that I talk to are turned off by rye whiskey at first. Once they are used to drinking whiskey more, then a lot of people seem to turn to rye and even single malts. Cheers 🥃

You are so right about JD. Most bourbon drinkers relate the name to #7 and have no clue as to the other great products that JD puts out and have no idea of what they are missing out on.

The Knob Creek 9 year keeps asking me to like it. But I never really can. Sharing an Elijah Craig anything with anyone will always be a winner. The rye is my go-to.

It’s always tough when you start with the big boys. But it doesn’t mean you can’t find something you like. I’ve found it’s more important to just try everything. All different types and distilleries. Cheers! 🥃

After two years and seven months I don't suppose I'm a beginner anymore, but I'm interested to see which of these I've had, and which I'd agree with. 🙂 Wild Turkey 101 - oh, yeah! 🥃 I actually prefer the Four Roses Small Batch over the Single Barrel. I've found that the Maker's profile doesn't really suit me, but the 46 is an excellent choice for a beginner. I ❤❤❤ the Double Oaked. Yep, Elijah Craig is a good one. Knob Creek 9 year is my favorite bourbon. 🥃 But I'm not sure that a 100 proof bourbon is right for a beginner. Michter's is the first one I've not had - I couldn't afford it. I've never seen Heaven Hill BiB. Old Forester 100 is good stuff, and it doesn't drink hot, so it's good for the list. Believe it or not, I've had the Single Barrel Barrel Proof, but not the regular Single Barrel. 🙂

I am about 9 months into my bourbon journey. I have tried about a dozen popular mid to low priced burbons. For what it’s worth, my favorite so far is Russell’s Reserve 10 year, and it is easy to find and well priced. My favorites before were Knob Creek 9 year and Redwood Empire Pipe Dreams.

Great list and yes Jack Daniels is a bourbon the mash bill and the first distilled product is bourbon and honestly just going through maple charcoal really doesn’t add much to the final product. If they don’t filter it it’s bourbon. Coopers craft 100 is another great choice for beginners and us old guy drinkers as well.

Actually the charcoal filtering removes impurities and adds zero to their distillate. And yes JD’s Tennessee Whiskey is bourbon. They could call it Tennessee bourbon if they wanted to just like they label their ryes as a rye. Why is that you ask? Because in order to be labeled Tennessee Whiskey it must legally qualify as bourbon.

Definitely a great thought! I was thinking through my conversations with people who are new to it. Seems like they tend to stay away from those categories at first. However, if someone tells me they enjoy wine but not bourbon, a finished whiskey is a perfect place to start! Cheers and thanks for watching! 🥃
