For the Thai US$500,000 investment, 1. If my defacto western wife and I buy a US$1m property in Thailand in joint names and contribute equally to the purchase, does this still qualify, assuming I'm the principal applicant?; 2. We are not married. Do we need to be?

Hi there! Thank you for getting in touch. If it's bought between two people it will only count as 50% of the amount per person. So, if both of your names are on the purchase agreement, the LTR department will only count 50% of the purchase price towards your investment. Yes, you can open a Thai bank account with this visa and your employer could pay you money directly into your Thai account if you prefer it to be done that way. If it's done that way, then you will be required to pay tax in Thailand. If your employer pays you to a foreign account, then it's necessary that you pay tax on that income in that country.
