My understanding is the heat and speed that you melt the candle. If you melt you at a lower temp for a longer time you wont get that crack or sinkhole….I usually melt mine on the stove in a pot with boiling water on a low temp…i dont have any issues once they solidify..hope that helps

Do you keep the water boiling or at a low simmer? And are you putting the jars in before (when you first put the pot on the stovetop) or after the water comes to boil?
@robertadejean3081
3 жыл бұрын
@@chickeegombert6063 I place the jars in as soon as I put the pot on the stove..I leave it on low to simmer the entire time until the wax has fully melted.. I just go around doing other things in the house…this can take about an hour. Not been in a hurry helps the wax so that later when it cools you have no issues. Just make sure you have enough water. I use a tall pot that’s taller than those jars but I’ve also used a regular pot used for making pasta.

@@Helenahandbasket1971 you’re welcome! I make candles a lot from fall to Christmas so I’ve experimented a ton! But if it does sink and you have one of those candle warmers I’ve found that is a great way to correct it as well. Have fun!

I'm a candle maker. I sell them. You don't need to heat the jars as some have said, but heating the wax to 175 degrees and then pouring it at 150 degrees is essential. I rarely get the sinkhole or uneven tops this way. Also, allowing them to cool in spot that is not near a vent, fan, etc so that they don't cool and set too quickly will also help!

The heat gun really is the quickest way to deal with sinkholes. If you're wanting to be a purist (and who has time for that?) you can either warm up your jars before pouring your wax into them. Alternatively, you can wait until your wax cools off significantly, between 125-135 degrees. As you've probably guessed sinkholes are caused by the hot wax drying faster on the outside of the candle than the inside. Also, even if there doesn't appear to be a sinkhole you should give all your candles a poke with a skewer to check, sometimes there is one lurking just beneath the surface.

While the vinyl isn't dollar tree, if you have a cricket it's cheaper than using Dollar Tree stickers. Heck even if you have her send it to you, it's still cheaper, unless you can find something you like that works for all three jars in one sticker packet. I just bought some of these jars yesterday at dollar tree, my son said why? I said, "I'm sure I'll find a Kelly Barlow video to give me inspiration" now I'm trying to convince him I'm psychic😂😂😂😂 I can't wait to do this!! BTW, I have the same issue with the cracks and sinkholes.

Your best DIY yet in my opinion. That’s because before you even showed it I am already doing the same. I have been been a fan of scented candle use for sometime since the pandemic so I started buying the brands from Walmart. At the same time I started exploring the ways could minimize my candle expenditures by watching KZitemrs make candles. Then I figured out accidentally how to melt candles both scented and unscented and not to start from scratch like melting waxes, and that when I was able to make candles like the one you’ve shown. Oh my! I was beyond impressed at my discovery. Started melting leftovers from all my candle glasses and mixed matched them until I did exactly what you did. I bought the tall glass candles and the scented melts and votives and mixed them too. Then I just bought a candle kit at Amazon. The rest is history. and here you are showing this trade secret so called lol thats probably going to dent the profit of some candle sellers. LOL! I found that buying a set of tall tapered unscented long life candles on Amazon was my thing as my baseline candle for making the scented because they do last longer than the ones on Dollar Tree, thereby saving more money. Thank you for this video. Much appreciated.
@tazg349

One thing more for smaller candle glass holders like the votive size I just use my coffee hot plate and it works like a charm. No need to use my oven. For the taller ones I use my coffee cup warming plate. Both works and it takes like 15 minutes then the candle is liquid. Just my little tip in case someone thinks the meting procedure is too cumbersome with ovens or double boiling. just make sure you dont walk too far away from it.

I make candles out of old candles I find at yard sales. I have an old pan and I melt them down in water/double boiler style. To avoid the sink hole problem I don't pour all at once. How many times and layers depends on the jars I use, mostly small ones I reuse. I order wicks from wherever the cheapest and buy in bulk.

Try melting your wax at a lower temperature and see if that helps. Also, I've found that wrapping my candles with dish towels makes for a more even hardening. Wrapping the candles prevents the outside area from hardening before the middle which causes the sinkholes and cracks.
