Hi Cory. Love your Variatus Platy. I am re-doing my 55 gallon community tank and focusing more on less species of fish. I have 9 adult platys and lots of young fry. With them I will be keeping, 3 SAE, 5 Pepper cory, some Ottos, 3 chain loach and a pair of Bolivian Rams as they have loads of character and seem to leave the platy fry alone. So I will be mainly focusing on the platy. My question relates to surface movement and providing enough flow. I have a big eheim filter running on the tank but I'm concerned there is to much flow for the fry. How can I keep good surface movement while providing a good environment for the fry to grow? Thanks

My project for today is to build a diy undergravel filter to start an experiment with UGF and live plants. In theory, the UGF will pull nutrients down to the plant roots? I think enough slits/holes in the PVC will prevent plant root infiltration/clogging.

Hi Cory, have a question. I have a tank that is getting what I have decided is cyanobacteria. I purchased some erythromycin. Is this the best way to treat this? Should I follow the instructions, or any other suggestions on how I should dose? O also have a snail in my tank, will it be OK? Will this treatment kill the good bacteria also? Any and all advise is welcome! Thanks much!!!
@AquariumCoop
7 жыл бұрын
I'd remove any big sheets of the bacteria, then dose it once and let that dose sit for 1 week. This usually takes care of it for me. I don't find I have much issue of losing beneficial bacteria, but most times I have planted tanks.
@JenaTuckerAquariums

I like your videos. I personally would of siphon vacuum the gravel first to clean and to reduce water level as you would need to reduce the level anyway for the volume of the new gravel and volume of your arm and to be easier to work in the tank. I my self love sponge filters and let lots plants eat the fish wastes. My plants thrive amazingly without co2 as long as the have fish waste to feed of. But move recently and put undergravel filter to save space. I cleaned the sponge filter directly in the new set up so good bacteria would go everywhere, when the sponge filter and under gravel filter recleaned the water and parameters was right and temperature then I reintroduced the fishes, snails, amano shrimps. Strangest thing I always had 5 shrimps sometimes it felt like 3 even in past setup. In new aquarium I saw 6 which is weird as there was not enough aquarium salt to make water brackish for a baby shrimp to live, weird. In 1 more week I'll remove the sponge filter when I'm confident the undergravel filter is handling it, and just siphon the areas where theres no plants.
