It was so great to see the old garage again. it got me right in the feels, how weird is that? I don't even really know you, but seeing the homestead again brought up sentimental feelings kind of like visiting an old childhood home. When you pass up sales you also pass up fish out of water finds too. The woman that has decorator stuff out and a box of her deceased husband's crap under a table that she doesn't value. Fish out of water finds are some of the best.
@jeanparish9559
3 жыл бұрын
@@1pcfred That's sad. :-( There would very likely be more value in that box of her deceased husband's stuff than anything she could probably sell on her womanly tables. I love flee markets. Garage sales are what Mustie1 seems to be encountering, ya know, girly crap, baby clothes, etc.. Good stuff is slim pickins sometimes with garage sales, though occasionally one can find things of value. Like I say, flee markets are cool too. There's a HUGE outdoor market in my area where I recently picked up a miters saw for about 15 bucks. MANY MANY tools! It's quite an impressive place. That's what I look for too, the valuable stuff.. ya know.. "Guy stuff". And I'm a female. Apparently guy stuff doesn't just hold value for guys only. I DO enjoy stocking my garage with good buys.
@1pcfred

@@jeanparish9559 it's sad but finding a treasure can make you happy. It's the ying and yang of life. There can be no light without darkness. I try not to darken anyone's doorstep for too long either. Slim pickins makes the hunt that much sweeter. If every meal was dessert how good would it taste? Sometimes people ask me what I'm looking for when I'm shopping. I just say a bargain. If it really is a bargain then I can't afford to pass it up. We all need a good deal now and again.

Your videos have definitely helped. Recently my neighbor asks "do you know a lawnmower guy?" Yeah, me. He says lawnmower stopped running last year. Ok, sure roll it over, we'll take a look-see. Carb and airbox just hangin there. The studs for the carb...gone. The bowl to the carb...gone. Tell the guy "you gotta find these missing pieces and I'll get it running for you." Check mfg site. Studs are not available seperately, only if you buy the cylinder head. Meh. Since the carb is not attached, I sprayed some ether in the cylinder. Nothin. Pull the plug. Almost 0 gap. I set it and test. Good spark. Try again. Fires right up for a second or two then dies. Didn't spray a lot of ether in there. Just enough. Now...if they could only find the missing pieces. It's a yard machine 21" w/ briggs 550ex 140cc engine. If you have the studs and other screws for carb/airbox. We could strike up a deal.

I wish we had these in the UK, we used to have whats called (car boot sale) basically where you driver your car / van to a predetermined location and set up and you have hundreds and sometimes thousands of people set up, sadly most have now stopped ether because the councils that owned the land ether said "no you see health and safety" despite them running for 60 years or more without issue, or to the people that own the land selling it for land development, it just sucks as I used to have 8 car boot sales in my area where i could get all kinds of good stuff and now i have zero and i would need to travel 60 miles for the closest one >.

I grew up in Upstate NY. As a kid my father went to Troy NY, and bought an 8 hp TroyBilt 'Horse'. That was back in the late 60's. At the time TroyBilt was a local company to us and you could just go over to the manufacturing site and pick one up. Years later the company was sold to 'Garden Way' which then tried to get into manufacturing all sorts of things including exercise equipment. They eventually failed and the company was then sold to MTD and the original manufacturing site was closed down. The company that I work for eventually leased the old GardenWay facility and it was used as a Data Center where NYS Medicaid was processed from 2003 until 2008 when the pharmaceutical company Regeneron took over the building.
