El Koubek Center del Miami Dade College (MDC) celebrará el
centenario del músico, compositor y director musical argentino Astor Piazzolla con un homenaje a su obra y su legado a las 8 p.m. el viernes 12 de marzo.
El programa incluirá actuaciones del Quinteto Astor Piazzolla, grupo fundado por Laura Escalada Piazzolla, viuda de Astor, para la Fundación Astor Piazzolla y dirigido por Julián Vat; el bandoneonista y arreglista David Alsina con un cuarteto de cuerdas de los Fellows del New World Symphony; y Mash-ish, un proyecto del bajista, arreglista y productor Pablo Aslan que explora los puntos de contacto del tango y la música afrolatina. El ensemble de Mash-ish, el cual incluye a cuatro mujeres bandoneonistas, participará tocando desde Río de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, y Vinalhaven, en el estado de Maine.
100 Años de Piazzolla. El alma del Nuevo Tango, también incluirá la participación de Miguel Arrabal, un bandoneonista emblemático de Miami que actuó en Broadway bajo la dirección de Piazzolla; y un avance de "Los años del tiburón", una película que ofrece una mirada íntima de la obra y la vida personal de Piazzolla, con una introducción de su director, Daniel Rosenfeld.

Koubek Center MDC will celebrate Argentine musician, composer, and bandleader Astor Piazzolla’s 100th birthday with a tribute to his music and its enduring legacy at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 12. 100 Years of Piazzolla, The Soul of New Tango is a virtual event and will feature renditions of some of Piazzolla's classics by a superb cast of musicians from around the world, and the trailer of the biographical film "The Years of the Shark". This event is free and open to the public.
The program will include performances by the Quinteto Astor Piazzolla, directed by Julian Vat and founded by Laura Escalada Piazzolla, Astor's widow, for the Fundación Astor Piazzolla; the bandoneon player and arranger David Alsina with a string quartet of Fellows of the New World Symphony; and bassist, arranger, and producer Pablo Aslan's Mash-ish, an exploration of tango and Afro-Latin music featuring an ensemble based in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Seoul, and Vinalhaven, ME; and including four women bandoneon players.
100 Years of Piazzolla, The Soul of New Tango, will also include an appearance by Miami's own Miguel Arrabal, a bandoneon player who performed in Broadway under Piazzolla's direction; and a trailer of the film The Years of The Shark, which offers a glimpse into Piazzolla’s life, with an introduction by director Daniel Rosenfeld.
